<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Cue the voice of Jan Brady. Instead of "Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!" I am inserting "Lakers!, Lakers!, Lakers!" Bleep the Lakers. I'm sick of the Lakers. I'm sick of reading about them, sick of watching the world stop when their games are on TV and sick of "SportsCenter" giving them the Red Sox/Cubs/Yankees treatment, breaking down every breath and every movement of every minute of every game. In case you people haven't noticed, we in Northern California should hate the Lakers. Oh sure, Kings fans do, but they are -- for the most part -- myopic yokels. NorCal liking the Lakers should be like Michigan fans cheering for Ohio State, like Georgia fans rooting on Florida, like Texas backers joining Sooner Nation. But it's not uncool because we in the Bay Area can be very lazy sports fans. Oh, the Lakers are winning? Cool, I like them now. Kobe rocks! Disgraceful.</div> http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../18/fool287.DTL ---------------------------- I thought I'd share this because it is kinda funny.
They are just jealous that their Kings cant win a game 7...what is it now..3 years in a row that Adelman and the Kings, excuse me...Queens, have lost in a 7th game. Correct me if I am wrong, arent they are the only team to ever lose 3 game 7s in a row? With 4 future HOFamers on their team, there is no way the media attention is going to calm down, especially with the team "turmoil" the media always reports about, the fueds that Kobe and Shaq have, Kobe and Phil, Gary and Phil, and Kobe's trial. It will not get any smaller even if the Lakers get swept by Minnesota, we will still hear about how it was a failure, Kobe's trial, and how GP might/will leave.

The Los Angeles Lakers are a franchise that has fans from all over the United States and around the world. How about the thousands of Laker fans that pack the house for a Warrior game at the Arena in Oakland? Don't these people reside in the Bay Area and support the purple and gold? Very much like the Yankee fans. Heck, when the Yankee fans come to Network Associates Coliseum to watch an A's game, do we question whether they're true fans or not? This guy's insane. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Then go back to your residence in Concord or Hayward or San Jose or Novato and realize that your Bay Area sports fan license has been revoked.</div> Well I do live in Hayward, CA. I Could really care less about what ONE "reporter" had to say I Understand it being a joke and all,but i live in San Leandro CA,which is next door to Oakland CA,where the Golden State Warriors play, and yet i don't root for the Warriors..so i guess i'm a fool for that...Not There's Laker Fans everywhere all over the planet,so why should that be a problem to someone??

Well it's true that the Lakers are by far the most "popular" team in basketball--possibly American sports in general with the exception of the Yankees. By that I mean everyone who remotely cares about the NBA either hates them or loves them. There's essentially no in-betweens. So there's certainly reason for them to be on the air more often than all the other teams.

I really want to see the persone that wrote that and give them a good smacking, he really isn;t that smart!

Its like im livin in germany cheering for the french soccer team, for bayern munich but live in stuttgart. People say yeah u alway like the good teams, what about Raptors then i actually many people (that dont know that sport) that like their team in their local area are kind of bandwagon.
much erronious statements here. i think the point he was trying to get at was that too many times you hear people profess to be a fan of this that or the other team & then when the team they are supposedly rooting for starts loosing (in the case of the warriors this would be along the lines of march 1927... i know i know....im only kidding... ) everyone & their brothers dog starts saying they're a lakers fan. undoubtedly this is partly because the lakers have a great history with a long list of great players. so do the celtics and im sure that when the nets started playing better, the celtics lost a few of their fans to these same types of people. the other point he is trying to make is that right wrong or indifferent all you hear about in the sports media (read that ESPN) is what the lakers are going to do, what they have done and what color their **** looks like. well.. what do you expect.. they are the dominant team this season, were pretty good last season if i recall, and didnt i read something about them winning a few championships in a row there? maybe he just doesnt remember back in the late 80's & 90's about a certain someone named Michael Jordan. the same treatment was given to the bulls in their days. perhaps his real problem isnt that the lakers are getting too much media attention. maybe the problem is the warriors are not. if thats the case there is an easy solution... wait for the warriors to build a dynasty of their own.....i hope you have a comfy couch to wait on man... what was that comment he made? oh yeah.... "a myopic yokel"... yeah... that fits some bay area sports writers....

As I already mentioned, I think I have the right as a true ultimate fan of the NBA to like any team I want. And since it's the Lakers, I'm automatically labeled as a bandwagon fan? That doesn't sound fair. You know I can go on and on about this Laker team and I can spit knowledge about this team whenever I want, and you do understand that I'm not a Kobe-Shaq groupie either. Anyway Rudeezy, when this Laker team breaks up by next year, which looks very likely, you'll see that I'll still be on my Laker forum making previews, posting any news articles I find about the Lakers, getting more Laker fans to JBB, and being the true fan that I am. Will your opinion soon change? Heh, we'll see.

I'm also a Bay Area native, and I've never been a Warrior fan. While I was there, they were actually good, Sleepy Floyd, the Run TMC era, and the Webber-Spree team. I like following the team, but I've always been a Laker fan, because of Magic Johnson and the Showtime Lakers. I also agree, you don't have to be a "Homer" to be considered a true fan. The fact of the matter is, most cities don't have a team to route for and a lot of franchises kill their fan base by decisions they make. I'd have to put Cohen on the top of the list for franchise killers. I remember it being close to impossible finding Warrior tickets and merchandise. The Warriors got a lot of exposure and they were a respected franchise. Cohen ruined it for a lot of Warrior fans by trading stars and franchise players on the team. How can you expect fans to be loyal, when their owner isn't?
