The Kings protect 8 players. Who do you feel they should keep, and who do you feel they should let go? Here is my list - (1-8 = Keep; 9 = Let Go) 1) Chris Webber 2) Peja Stojakovic 3) Brad Miller 4) Doug Christie 5) Mike Bibby 6) Bobby Jackson 7) Gerald Wallace 8) Darius Songaila ---------------- 9) Anthony Peeler Free Agents: Vlade Divac Rodney Buford Jabari Smith Although Peeler had a better year than Wallace and Songaila, he's getting old. He's about to turn 35 while Songaila and Wallace have loads of potential. Also, I think Charlotte will be less inclined to draft him after he got into that fight with Garnett. However, I could see them snatching Songaila and Wallace with one of their first few picks.
hate to say it but i have it 1)bibby 2)miller 3)peja 4)christie 5)songaila 6)jackson 7)vlade 8)buford why not webber? as much as i see him as still being a great talent regardless of the injuries, he has been prone to leg injuries and still has a lot of time left on a large contract. first, due to the injuries, i dont think he would be taken by the franchise because you just dont know what you are going to be getting. that combined with his large contract. my understanding is that they would only be held for 2/3 of the contract amount but thats still a lot for an older player with leg problems. <edit> strike vlade from the list. i forgot that you cant protect a free agent. </edit>

He will probably be the most talented player out of all the garbage they will be forced to choose from. At least they could have one "big name".
I think Webber will protected along with... Bibby Peja Christie Bobby Brad and two to be named later Vlade is a free agent

I cannot fathom a situation wherein Sacto doesn't protect Webber. Even with Charlotte only able to spend 2/3 of the cap thier first season, Webber instantly puts butts in the seats and adds franchise credibility, despite the other potential detractions on him. That alone would likely get him taken in the expansion draft. Not to mention, Sacto gets NOTHING in return for talent, just cap room. Sure it's alot, but what other FA's are going to see is a franchise that just tossed out their franchise player, who's not a malcontent or any of the other things that often prompt teams to release big talent. That picture isn't a flattering one to those looking to make a move. If we're talking about decent names, with big contracts and injury history's being left unprotected, guys like Raef LaFrantz fit the bill as guys who will be left unprotected, but not drafted. Webber would be gobbled up instantly, IMO.
webbers fragile ego is legendary. he made some interesting comments during his post game media apperance making refrences to the "end of an era". im not about to try and read his mind as to what he was thinking, but he has expressed interest in being traded from the kings in the past. will all the boo's directed at webber have him asking to be traded again? its a distinct possibility. and with petrie and adelman under the gun next year to produce in a big way, if that involves trading webber they will make the deal. i fully expect webber to be here next year... but there are some possibilities that could play out involving webber.
