    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">OAKLAND - For now, the Warriors don't have a head coach.

So said executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin during a Thursday afternoon news conference at team headquarters.

The Warriors announced Thursday they had fired coach Eric Musselman, but Mullin stopped short of confirming myriad reports that Stanford coach Mike Montgomery would become Musselman's successor.

A team news release announcing Musselman's firing said: "No successor has been named to the position."

Mullin said he's discussed the opening with Montgomery but that nothing had been finalized.

"Let me wait on that," said Mullin, when asked specifically about Montgomery. "That's for another day. I don't want to get ahead of myself."

Montgomery, Stanford's coach the past 18 years, reportedly met with Cardinal players Wednesday night and informed them he was taking the Warriors job.</div>
