Has anyone heard of what Ron Mercer is doing? He dissappeared from the Spurs roster during the season and I read somewhere that the Spurs had released him at that moment so that he could sign with another team.He's a good player so I was just wandering if he playing in another league or if he was injured? if not why didn't a team sign him?
He was waived by San Antonio. If ya don't play D you cant play for Poppovich. I'm not sure if he's playing in another league, but I think he will be signed in the offseason, still can score.
Not true, Ron Mercer was waived because he was an outsider, he wasn't any time together with his teammates, I hink I read somewhere, that popovich said that if one of our players isn't with the other players on the outside, he doesn't belong here. To Obie Cent, Ron Mercer was a good defensive player, and thats for sure!
Yeah, Ron is definility an odd man for the spurs he had to play behind, Bruce Bowen, Hedo Turkerlo, Manu Ginobli, even Devin Brown. Im suprise some teams like the Nets who are strugling in a half court offense didnt sign him to a 10 day contract.
Mercer is one helluva player, but the problem is that he never really stays anywhere long enough. I remember when he was playing for the Magic, he's a good guy, but just never seems to fit in the locker room from what I have read.
I never really liked him, he wasn't really bound to be all that great. Simply above average, kind of like Mashburn, eventually after time in the league he'd never abound to anything. Like KVH he'll become a trading child.

When healthy Mashburn is one of the top players in the NBA. Mercer is nowhere near that level.

Mercer can still score, and he is only 28 years old. I expect a team to pick him up and bring him off the bench for some scoring.

He bounces around on teams because of that attitude. I hope he matures at some point, because he's got talent, but not the kind of talent that sets him apart from other NBA players, which unfortunately seems to be his own mindset.
The reason he got released was purely down to not giving a damn, not working hard in practise and refusing to play defense. He needs 20+ shots to score 15 points. He would also need to play 40 minutes to score 20 points. He might well be the worse Spurs defender I've ever seen. If you aren't willing to work hard in practise and play some defense on a team contending for a title, you have no hope left in this league.

He should go to the Knicks or something, they're lacking a lot of their categories, he can be bench fodder, or although I don't want any ruin to them, the Grizzlies.
Yeah i can see him fit well into the Knicks rotation as a backup for the injury-prone Houston, if he will only accept coming off the bench. He would ruin the Grizzlies a little because thay already have great depth a the 2 and 3 spots (Miller/Posey/Battier/Wells).
