<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Pierce believes Rivers is the right man for the job, and he wants coach and captain communicating well when next season begins. When reached by telephone yesterday in Los Angeles, Pierce talked at length about Rivers, the departure of former coach Jim O'Brien, the brief tenure of John Carroll, a trying season, and the possibility of playing in the Olympics.</div>

Good, I was worried that Pierce wouldn't like Rivers. I especially like this part of what Pierce said:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The way he coached in Orlando is kind of what we're envisioning over here. We'd like to get up and down the court, score 100 points a game. That's what [executive director of basketball operations] Danny [Ainge] and Doc are trying to do here. That's why I think he's the best guy for the job. And we'll see if he can deal with Ricky [Davis].</div>

Rivers is a great coach and person. I think he'd fit well. Finally a really good staff member for the Celtics, he'll be very sensitive, understanding and motivational. I especially like the fact he's like Brown and Scott in the sense, he's a very offensive minded coach, which fits Pierce perfectly.

It's very important that Pierce and Rivers hit off as allies in their first meeting. A good player/coach relationship is key to a team's success.

In General, I've always read Pierce's intentions on a given situation as the following:

If he praises you, he likes you and you're getting along/on the same page.

Otherwise, he doesn't really reference you while answering the question.

Paul Pierce is very media savvy in the manner in which he responds to controversial or difficult questions. He always knows the company line.

Anyone else read his responses that way?
