I'd not want to see that happen. Our offense is supposed to revolve around Yao and the addition of McGrady would screw our future plans up.

I agree w/ trip. Tmac needs more touches than Francis, so that wouldn't work...

Yeah I agree, altho if they've decided that Francis is a goner, thats the deal I'd want done...we could always use T-Mac as trade bait either way, but T-Mac>>>Francis...Altho that would be a lot, I would love to see Francis, Taylor, JJ for T-Mac, Drew Gooden and say a Reece Gaines if a deal was to be done...I dont wanna see Francis/Taylor/JJ go, but if so, thats tha deal I'd want done...

i'd like to see a sign-and-trade w/ steve nash... francis could work in dallas' run-n-gun system... and nash is a pg that could fit anywhere.

Exactly, not sure if McGrady plays well with players who need the ball to produce, he didn't this past season.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting HoustonHoopa33:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah I agree, altho if they've decided that Francis is a goner, thats the deal I'd want done...we could always use T-Mac as trade bait either way, but T-Mac>>>Francis...Altho that would be a lot, I would love to see Francis, Taylor, JJ for T-Mac, Drew Gooden and say a Reece Gaines if a deal was to be done...I dont wanna see Francis/Taylor/JJ go, but if so, thats tha deal I'd want done...</div>

Why go backwards like that? Trade Francis for an unknown in McGrady and then if it doesn't work out we trade McGrady??

Jeff Van Gundy is still coaching the Rockets, right? Steve Nash still sucks on defense, right? Now how is that supposed to work out? His offensive game could fit almost anywhere, not on a team that relies heavily on defense though.

I know he'd be playing out of position but I'd be comparing TMac to Franchise. Both are great at offense, TMac is simply smarter, better and much more consistent. He's also not really a turnover machine. It'd be bad enough to have two ballhogs on the team, he'd only offer us size, rebounding, excellent offensive ability, some defense, but that's not enough, he would certainly ruin the play and mentality of "defense." If you're gonna go for someone, go for a PG, Franchise simply doesn't cut it anymore.

Edit: All-Star my ass. Get Barry instead. He may not be as good in some aspects, but overall as a PG and their nature and abilities, he's far better. Go home Franchise, oh wait you already are, I should rephrase that, go somewhere else.

^ I agree, I like Brent Barry. Good pg with handles, good shooter, and back in the days that white boi could jump! (look up: white boy dunk with warm-up jacket still on.)

Best scenario: If we get Barry, and somehow land Tmac also, I wouldn't mind losing Francis, Cat and Cato or Jim Jackson or Mo Taylor (one of those 3, not all 3 of them). This is assuming Tmac can play with other players though and not ballhog to carry a team like he's always been doing. I'd be content with a starting lineup of Barry, Tmac, Nachbar (I have faith in him), Yao and Cato/Jim Jackson/Mo (whoever that's not traded). It might not be the best/youngest lineup in the world but I think it's a good start to work with.

Also as RocketLaunch mentioned before, our bench really needs help too...

OT: BTW what is "(look up: white boy dunk with warm-up jacket still on.)"?

Anyway I think sadly that the team should go young. As in like the Grizzlies and the Blazers. Veterans don't seem to do it or rather do it well over here in Houston. Seems only Barry would. If you really want some dominance, seeing as you're a defense based team, try to nab either K-Mart or Brand for yourselves. They excel at defense and are awesome big men, only behind the likes of TD, KG and JO. They'd fit perfectly, for unlike TMac, they're good team players just like Barry. The only problem of getting such great guys is, what would be left to pay for good bench players to be bought as well as the actual costs it'll have for the Rockets franchise itself.

I dont like this, McGrady takes just as many, if not more shots than Francis will. IF they want to try to revolve the O around Yao, they need to get a pg who can distribute the ball and doesnt care about his points too much, Eric Snow?

The Rockets would take a step BACK with McGrady, yes he's more talented and he's a better player but he's simply not a difference maker, he's not a leader, he was probably the most selfish player in the league this past season and he doesn't play defense. Francis has earned the respect of his coach, through hard work and sacrifice, McGrady won't work hard and won't sacrifice his game for Yao like Francis did, he'll expect . Why do you think the Magic are entertaining offers for McGrady instead of promising him an improved team next season? I really can't believe Rocket fans would want him here, don't ya'll remember the game he had here in Houston?

And Barry? You can't be serious, maybe bring him in to play WITH Francis to handle the ball during important stretches of games, but not to be a starting point guard on a team that values defense over offense.

That sounds like a great idea, he's an awesome defender too. Mobley and Snow are alike except Mobley has offense. It could work great, but we need effective scorers on all positions since this is a defensive team. We need reliable backup incase those who we actually have score play badly, that's why someone like Barry or an awesome bench could prove really useful in that aspect.

Edit: Yes I believe Barry can do it. I have faith in him and I "know" he can play defense well when he can and wants to. He's not as big a turnover machine or ballhog as Francis either, he has excellent vision, is unselfish and also provides some very effective and the keyword here is "consistent" offense. Some offense on such a defense orientated team whilst being a decent defender and good provider and creater isn't all that bad an idea if you ask me.

Just as many if not more?? HAHA! McGrady probably shot 12 more shots per game than Francis did. And who's going to replace Francis' points? Yao? Not until he starts playing more than 32 minutes a game. Mobely? Nope. Jackson? Nope. Snow. Hell no. You guys have to try harder, it's not that easy to replace Francis, you need a great offensive and pretty good defensive player, not that many around like him.

Only thing bad about Snow is his shooting, he can't do it, especially not from the 3 point line.

I guess he never wanted to win in Seattle then, because if they would of played defense they would of made the playoffs since they already have one of the best offenses in the league. It's not a bad idea, but not as the starting point guard without Francis on the team, as a combo guard with Francis on the floor at the same time is fine with me.

I meant Barry, I only want Snow for defensive purposes. If it came down to offense, I know he'd screw up. Why do you want to keep Franchise so badly? Ever since the past few seasons he's brought us nothing but troubled waters.

Francis always gives maximun effort in every game on both sides of the court, not many star players in the NBA are like that. Contrary to popular belief he has deferred to Yao, not this season either, mid point last season is when the Rockets started to focus in on Yao, too bad the guy too exhausted to lead them into the playoffs. This season the offense was Yao, then Yao, then Francis, and he was cool with it because they were winning, even if he struggled with the offense thus making his numbers look bad.

What troubled waters? What exactly have you expected from the Rockets these past few years? Since Francis has been here this has been the only season that I've ever been impressed with the Rockets roster, I even grossly overrated them, yet they have always competed year in and year out.

I won't mind Snow on offense. He is less turnover-prone and does not require too many shots. He'd be a stable force on offense, getting the ball to Yao.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Magic Johnson:</div><div class="quote_post">OT: BTW what is "(look up: white boy dunk with warm-up jacket still on.)"?</div>

Brent Barry won the slam dunk contest in '96 or something like that with a one-handed dunk from near the free throw line WITH his warmups still on. Pretty impressive.

Alright so here are the candidates:

Brent Barry - Like I said, smart PG, good court-vision, distributes well, plays decent defense at LEAST (who knows how well he can D up once JVG gets his hands on him), a REALLY good shooter (ranked #2 in 3pt percentage this year). My #1 choice of PG here.

Eric Snow - is a liability on offense, but a really really good defender and rebounds decently for a PG. He's strong.

Tmac - A great player that can do some real damage in the offensive end but I don't know (and I doubt) that he can defer to Yao as the focal point of the team. To be honest, I don't like the chances of him being in Rockets only to find out he can't share the ball around. But if he can... Shaq/Kobe combo #2 right there.

RocketLaunch, the fact that Francis tries hard to work mix well with the team is great. I love it. However, there are just things that you can't control. In this case, Francis' court-vision, his vulnerability to freak out and play streetball, and basically overall decision making skills. Those things you can't really teach. Sure they can improve slightly, but you're either a naturally good PG or you're a decent PG at best. Francis being the latter one. I appreciate what the guy has done to help the team out and it shows. They made it to the playoffs. But deep down inside, I do not see Francis at PG and Yao carrying this team deeper than first round of playoffs. I see Yao and another SG/Slasher dominating this Rockets team. That other person could well be Francis but for the love of basketball, the guy isn't a PG and he shouldn't be playing it! Trade Mobley, get Barry straight up I don't care. As long as Francis isn't the PG I think we're heading the right way, which is to go through Yao 100% of the time.

Has Van Gundy helped Taylor's defense? Pike's? Nachbar's? Padgetts? Those guys either don't like playing or simply can't play defense, that's why Cato started and Mobley and Jackson were playing an extremely high amount of minutes while Pike and Nachbar developed hemroids from sitting so much. If a player doesn't put in the effort to play defense he won't get better, guys like Cato, Mobley, Yao, Francis, Jackson, all became very good to great defenders with Van Gundy's help and motivation because they put in the effort. Not sure if Barry will do that, what makes anyone think he even plays decent defense anyway?

We already discussed this move Francis talk and whether or not he's not a point guard, IMO, he's not being moved, EVER, and he's one of the better point guards in the league.

Yao and any other SG not named Kobe Bryant won't lead the Rockets past the 1st round either. Yao isn't aggressive enough to be a dominant player, throw all the talent out the window if you're not aggressive enough to use it, that's been Yao's short career in a nutshell so far. Besides, Yao was the focus of the offense last season, his numbers went up while every other Rocket's numbers went down.
