...How would teams guard him, he is already the most dominant player in the game, if he could convert like that...how would they stop him?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe 8 Ball:</div><div class="quote_post">...How would teams guard him, he is already the most dominant player in the game, if he could convert like that...how would they stop him?</div> I heard in the 2000 Finals that they calculated how many ppg Shaq would score if he shot free throws like Reggie. He would have scored... 52 ppg in the 2000 Finals
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If Shaq shot 80% FTs... ...How would teams guard him, he is already the most dominant player in the game, if he could convert like that...how would they stop him?</div> That's one of those wonderful "What If" questions we'll never have to worry about answering. However, I'll play along and try an extrapolation: How to guard Shaq if you can't use the Hack-a-Shaq method........hmmn........ .........At this point in his career: - I'd run his butt up and down the court as much as possible and hope to tire him out enough to make him ineffective. - I'd still rotate in alot of guys to match up against him. It serves several purposes: 1. If keeps him from getting used to using one approach to beat someone. 2. It gives different looks on defense. 3. It keeps anyone important from potentially fouling out early. Or, you could just invite Tanya Harding to a practice and ask her to bring her pipe.
Shaq should stop being such a spoil brat, push his ego aside, and take up Rick Barry's offer to teach him the underhand foul shot...I bet he'd 80% if he did that (I heard Wilt hit around 80% when he tried but stopped because he didn't feel "manly")
Lol, could you imagine a big 300+ pound man shooting underhanded FTs. Lol that would be hilarious. But if it works, I would do it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">(I heard Wilt hit around 80% when he tried but stopped because he didn't feel "manly")</div> Vanity can be an ugly thing sometimes.
I'd have a tremendous amount of respect for a man who'd throw his pride out the window and put the success of the team first and foremost.
Man shaq should do that cause last game he shot 8-22 on the line. Thats just emberessing. More emberessing than shooting underhanded FT's

Eventually we would get use to it and it would be for the better for the team if he could so they wouldn't have to comeback from all these big damn deficits.
If Shaq shot 80% from the line, life would be much easier for the Lakers. Teams wouldn't have a scape goat to go to to when the momentum wasn't going their way. And, personally, I don't think people would be beating them very often, cause, a lot of the reasons we lose is because Shaq can't shoot free throws. So, if he could shoot that, I don't think beating the Lakers would be easy.
2 points to make. Mostly because I'm feeling anal retentive today! <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Teams wouldn't have a scape goat to go to to when the momentum wasn't going their way. </div> When it comes down to needing to foul someone, there's always a designated scapegoat on the floor. Shaq just makes it easier to avoid looking up individual FT %'s. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">So, if he could shoot that, I don't think beating the Lakers would be easy.</div> Hard to debate that one because it's already pretty hard to beat the Lakers.
First of all the hack-a-shaq doesn't work! The lakers have never lost a game when the other team has used that D. If a team ever did get back into the game using that D, it would be like shoting yourself in the foot. Bc your team would be in the penalty for the rest of the game and your entire front court would be in major foul trouble or out of the game. If Shaq shot 80% the lakers would be working on their 5th title in a row.
I believe if someone joined the league and started banking in free-throws at a 94% clip, we would see how many players would truly put winning above their ego.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Tha Franksta:</div><div class="quote_post">Could someone hook me up with a video clip of Rick Barry doing this cause I wanna see</div> I would like to see that too. He doesn't do that in Espn basketball and I don't know about Live. He did that in 2k2 and 3 though. Anyways I wish Shaq could hit 70% of his freethrows. That's not even possible with the way he shoots it now. The rotation on his shot still spins like a globe.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe 8 Ball:</div><div class="quote_post">...How would teams guard him, he is already the most dominant player in the game, if he could convert like that...how would they stop him?</div> Give him the ball each and every time. Make him work hard with those drop steps and pivots. By the time 3rd quarter comes, you can hope that he's dead tired by then and start acting lazy again. Then you can make your comeback. Hehehehe.
