<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Byron Scott told ESPN on Thursday that he has agreed to a deal in principle to become the next head coach of the New Orleans Hornets. While some details have yet to be worked out, Scott expects the deal to happen. Scott, fired earlier this season as head coach of the New Jersey Nets, currently is working as a studio analyst for ABC and ESPN. Scott said last week that his visit with the Hornets went well and expressed through his agent that he was interested in the job. Scott had been considered a top candidate to replace Tim Floyd, who was fired May 7 after one season.</div> Link
I am happy for Byron Scott,he deserved a head coaching job,it will be intresting to see how he and the Hornets will perform in the west next year.
An interesting move, considering that Floyd was apparently fired because the players didn't respect him much, and Scott was (aledgedly) fired for the same reason.

In New Jersey, I didn't respect Byron Scott as a coach. I still feel like the Nets could have won the NBA championship in 2002 had it not been for Byron Scott's idiotic rotations. If I were running things in New Orleans, I would have offered a job to a college coach like Tom Izzo or Tommy Amaker. Although Izzo did reject a multi-million dollar contract with the Hawks about a year ago.
Nice to see him get a job, I wish he would of waited until Phil Jackson's decision...I would love to see him coaching teh Purple n Gold. I dont know if this coaching position will fit him.

He's a pretty bad coach; he's racist; he's getting way more money than he should be making; he is not a player's coach; and he has more money than you're likely to make in your life.

Anyway, I thought he was leaning more toward teh Lakers cause he's friends with Kobe. I wonder whats gonna happen with the LA coaching situation now.

A lot of people thought it was Eddie Jordan, well atleast Wiz fans, and tehy thought that he would bring the success of the offense with him to the Wiz (the Princeton Offense) but it didnt work. I think he is a good coach. But I never knew he was racist? Where/What are your facts on taht?

this will be interesting. if your a nets fan, most of the credit for the 2nba finals run really wouldnt go to scott. yeah he gets some credit, but most ppl will give it to eddie jordan and mike o'koren who both went to washington. even some believed that if eddie didnt go to the wiz, he would've been named head coach of the nets probably earlier than when byron was fired. byron is going into an org where he doesnt have his own style really. he used the princeton offense and did rely on his assistants a lot, more than you would think a coach would. he is now going to the west where he wont face washington/orlando/altlanta/chicago four times a season. he won't have any easy games in the west and when things go bad, you know they will, he doesnt push the right buttons to get the team back on the winning track. scott didnt get many wins with the nets against the west, so you could think that he wont have much success the first year b/c of the new conference, new players, new system, new everything. this upcoming year can be a painful year. it will be interesting to see what happens when there is a long losing streak or a bad year how the players will react to byron, whether they respect him or not, lot of pressure on byron to gain respect early so he can have a long coaching career.
I think that he's thinking that coaching the Lakers wouldn't be too good for him. How the hell will he be able to handle the superstars of the Lakers? This is a great move by Scott to take the head coaching job for the Hornets. I still don't like him as a coach though.
The only reason I would want him, is I see him as rather balanced in play. Meaning the way he coaches and how he wants them to play. He knows their strengths and weaknesses and would know when to do what in order to improve them. He's very assertive and emotional, so I think he'd do well in both disciplining them as well as pushing them to become better. His lean towards the more offensive minded game is what interests me. He could make B Dizzle play smarter, by allowing him and ordering him to leave some more of the play to share between say, Magloire and PJ Brown. Attitude can be a bad thing, but for a young team like this with such obvious talent and although they have chemistry, it can be better. Maybe harshness and some toughness in a coach will bring out the fire in them.
I can't say anything about it since I'm not really sure about the impact he'd have on the team, but having a coach with a respectable resume has to give him more respect among the players. One thing I'm worried about is his relationship with Baron Davis. Would it turn out to be just like the one Scott had with Jason Kidd?

I really don't like Kidd but I do think he is at least a top 3 PG in the world. I think B.Diddy is more different in many ways..I think Byron Scott will fit perfectly here , is a different team..is a halfcourt team mixed with the speed of Diddy and others in the fast break...hell even a new conference...what happened to the guy that looked like damn I forgot his name..Ford..oh well.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe 8 Ball:</div><div class="quote_post"> But I never knew he was racist? Where/What are your facts on taht?</div> Iam with you playa, I need to be refreshed, B.Scott has said alot of crazy things in his career as a player & coach but I dont remember any racist comments. He did say that Boston fans had no class but that was during the 02 playoffs, when they were screamin wife abuser to J.Kidd every single time he went to the line. And that was still a very serious subject to J.Kidd during that time. But he didnt make any racist comment toward them(as far as I remember). Maybe he made the racist comments when he was with the Lakers during the 80's-early 90's when he was battling them as a player. But a quick memory refresher would be nice. What did he say & when did he say it.
i thought byron said that boston didnt like black basketball players, or something along those lines. he mentioned that to get the attention of his players and on him, nets did win that series as we know so i guess you can say it worked eventhough bringing the race card(boston vs black players) into it was the wrong move imo.
So far it seems like Baron and Byron are a good fit; he's looking forward to coaching him. Byron said he's looking to go up and down the floor and take advantage of the style Baron would like to play in, but the Hornets also need more athleticism.
they need to be healthy for the entire year too in order to have a chance at the playoffs. we all know health has cost the hornets some playoff runs b/c they did have talent to compete in the east, but they need more size for the west. best of luck to byron and the hornets, hopefully he acts like a coach instead of having all assistant coaches be the real coaches like he did here in jersey. im sure he learned b/c this(NJ) was his first head coaching job.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Wave:</div><div class="quote_post">Hagrid said he was, and I trust what he says.</div> Hagrid is just saying that because he's a Celtics fan and hated the way the Nets rolled the Celtics the past couple years. Byron Scott isn't a racist. If he were he'd have been found out as a player, and even if you're the best player in the league with a great basketball mind, if you're a suspected racist you don't get any lee-way with respect to coaching jobs. (case in point Kareem) So suspected racism aside, I think that this is a good fit. Scott has always been a fan of the running game, which he's said he's going to implement in New Orleans. New Orleans has the tools to make that work, and its the best way for them to remain in contention in the big bad West. I was rather surprised that Mike Fratello didn't land the job, since he seemed like the second choice last year after Tim Floyd. I'm not surprised that Scott didn't wait for the Lakers decision. He could easily have gotten the job had Phil quit, but here's the thing: does he really want to preside over the demise of the Lakers? He doesn't want to be the Mike Dunleavy(Sr.) for the ballclub, so he'll wait for the fall out to occur. What fallout, you ask? Well, look at the facts: Karl Malone and Payton are gonna retire real soon, and Shaq is never gonna be the same as he was in 2000, 2001 and the other title years. Its gonna be Kobe's team, provided that he's still with the Lakers(or playing bball at all), and Mitch Kupchak is gonna have to find a way to rebuild around Kobe. When the Lakers 13 years ago tried to build around Worthy and (who else?) Scott, the team went into a tailspin that ended with them in the lottery. Mike Dunleavy, although he saw the team to one Finals appearance, got a bit of a bad rap for being the coach then. Scott doesn't want the same to happen to him.
