Because Skip played poorly in the post season, this gives the Heat more leverage during contract negotiations so Skip won't be able to ask for some ridiculous contract and we'll be able to re-sign him cheap and have more money to go after a free agent center.

Quote:

MIAMI -- The only positive aspect to Rafer Alston's sub-par postseason performance could be that the affable backup point guard has now fallen into the Heat's free-agent price range this summer.

Alston, the only integral member of Heat coach Stan Van Gundy's seven-man rotation not under contract next season, averaged seven points on 31.9-percent shooting and just 1.7 assists in 13 postseason games.

Alston had averaged a career-high 10.2 points, a team-high 4.5 assists and was ranked eighth in the NBA in 3-pointers made (37.1 percent) during his breakout regular season.

Alston also set a franchise record by making at least one 3-pointer in 48 consecutive games. However, the 6-foot-2 asphalt legend threw up bricks in the postseason, making just 12 of 52 3-pointers (23.1 percent). He was 0 for 9 from the field in the last two games.

While Alston may have commanded a huge pay boost to about $2 million a year following the regular season, his postseason slump most likely dropped him into the more affordable low-level $1.6 exception.

I think it's a godo thing, I'm not happy Skip did bad, but I would like to re-sign him, and this will make it cheaper and easier to get him.
I'm really hoping Rasual Butler can get bigger role on the team next year though, he's got the shooting touch, and is not bad off the post up in mid-range. He's a tough defender, and can block shots, but his ability to steal the ball dissapoints me for a guy with such length.
He's also fairly atheletic, and he's just a good player to have. I'd like him to be getting 20 minutes as a backup.

I'm really not sure what can take the team on top though, what is really needed for Miami for become a top team in the East/ win the East.

Really this roster with addidtions of course could do it, add a center ala Mark Blount, then Odom and Wade are definately going to improve, what we really need to do is further strengthen the bench.

It's good that the Heat will have more money. But it sucked that we didn't get to the Skip that played against the Dallas Mavericks during the regular season with all the big shots he hit. No! But I hope he has a real good season next year. He needs to, because he'll 30 already next year.

He's a good player, but he probably won't get all that much better, he's quite old. This is good for the team, it'll allow you to resign him and maybe even improve your bench or something or other. I think you ought to spend the money trying to get yourself a better and more dominant C. Brian Grant is great and all, but to truly succeed you need someone great in that area as well as the PG area, those're two of the keys to an awesome team. You already have offense and defense covered in the Butler's, Jones, Wade and Odom. Caron's is starting to become even more present regardless of his injury. This money'll be a big help for signing a new C.

? About Skip. Has anyone seen him dunk this season? Man, I even heard he dunked on Ratliff. [IMG] [IMG] This guy is cool and all, but that's [IMG]! We all would've seen that in the highlight reels all the time.

Skip doesn't dunk (in the NBA at least), but he does have a pretty big vertical, in the low 30's I believe. On some of those crazy layups he did this year, he could have easily thrown the ball down instead of laying it up.

Choach, yeah I know he's able to dunk. But not in games much, I'm like that too. I may dunk once in awhile. Skip, his layups is tight though. But it's for certain that he hasn't dunked in a nba game. I've been fortunate enough to see Tony Parker dunk once in last year's playoffs. [IMG]

Well I think everything is working out weel for this young heat team. I dont really think skip wants the money he just probally wants a chance to play the game he loves on the big screen with a team. all those guys on the And1 team just at least want a chance to play in the big leagues. I think a couple are in the NBDL trying to get shots at going to the L but they probally have to work a little buit harder. Skip was a legend on the streets so i think maybe that couldve helped him a little with the fan base in all. But i think his game really shocked some guys and now he's become an asset to their team. and i'm really happy for him.
as the commentator at the and 1 games says. "oh baby, oh baby, Thats my Grandson"
