<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">North Jersey: League officials have leaked that Knicks team President Isiah Thomas is shopping Kurt around the league and has already had discussions with the Portland Trail Blazers about acquiring forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Due to an $8 million difference in salaries, the Knicks are looking to package in Moochie Norris and Othella Harrington. On the other hand, Portland is also talking to New Jersey about Kerry Kittles. Amongst other players Thomas is shopping are Dikembe Mutombo and Shandon Anderson. </div> Link
I wouldn't mind sending Moochie and Othella. Othella doesn't even want to be here, and Moochie really doesn't bring much to the team. Out of all the Knicks rumors, this one doesn't really do as much as some of the others for me. Dealing Anderson and Mutombo would be great. All are taking up major cap space.
Shareef could be a great addition for the team. His stock has dropped because he has taken on more of a sixth man role. If he was to be a starter again, he could easily average a 20/10. Do it Isiah...
Trying to bring in another contract eh? I liked what Isaiah did with the Knicks last offseason, but I really think he should start looking to clear some cap room. Year by year the players' contracts are getting bigger and they're getting older, which makes it tough to get rid of them. Mutombo's contract isn't that bad anymore is it? I remember he used to have a near 20mil contract with the Nets but if I remember right he signed the mid level exception to join the Knicks. They really need to start working on trying to get rid of that Houston contract the most IMO. Until they start clearing space so they can bring in new younger guys I can't see the Knicks getting any further into the playoffs than this year.
Dont worry.... Isiah Thomas has proven to us Knicks Fans that he wants to revamp this Knicks team from what it was and become a great team like we use to be.
New York trades: SF Tim Thomas C Kurt Thomas New York receives: C Grant Hill PF Drew Gooden Second round pick from Orlando Dallas trades: PF Antoine Walker C Shawn Bradley Dallas receives: SF Tim Thomas C Kurt Thomas Orlando trades: C Grant Hill PF Drew Gooden Orlando receives: PF Antoine Walker C Shawn Bradley I know, your thinking NY gets screwed but I think we would be better off without Tim Thomas, Demarr and Penny would do a better job IMO. Sweetney and Gooden could do a great job at pf, and Grant Hill could sit on the bench, but than agian who knows maybe he will really will come back this season which is just icing on the cake. And we could use the 1st pick in the second round take someone really nice who may have slipped a bit due to all the high schoolers, or maybe we could get a high school kid who slipped or someone with talent like Lampe who slipped for stupid reasons.
Well unless Grant Hill retires. And the Knicks get some type of league exemption or are able to take his salary off the books for cap space, I really dont see how this trade benefits the Knicks at all. Drew Gooden doesnt even really have a natural position in my opinion. He cant guard the bigger, stronger 4's in the league. And alot of the things Knick fans knock Kurt Thomas for like taking to many mid-range jumpers, well Gooden basically does the same thing. And you lose some rebounding with the exchange of Gooden for KT. But Gooden does have youth on his side. And giving up Tim Thomas means Penny Hardaway starting at the Small Forword spot for 82 games. I dont know about that one, I think its to late in his career to give an injury prone Hardaway a key starting spot for 82 games again. If Hardaway was to go down the Knicks would end up with major problems at the small forward spot with this trade. And him & Allan starting together on the wings for along period of time could be a problem on Defense. When the Knicks trade Kurt Thomas they need to make sure they throw someone like Shandon Anderson in the deal. He has 3 years left on his contract. And is hurting the Knicks cap due to the fact he isnt worth his pay check. All Anderson is an overatted defsive wing player, who cant make a jumpshot to save his life. The Knicks need to do what ever it takes to get him out of NYC.
