Key stats: 19.8 ppg, 48.8 shooting pct., 2,838 minutes

Outlook: Cassell had the best overall season of his career, playing in his first All-Star Game and, after some initial head-butting, fitting into coach Flip Saunders' offensive system well enough for career highs in scoring and shooting percentage. But at age 34, Cassell played the second-most minutes of his career, setting him up for the hip injury that came at the worst possible time for the Wolves. Next season, the Wolves will need Troy Hudson or another solid alternative at point guard to share the workload.

    Kevin Garnett

    Forward

Contract status: Signed through 2008-09 ($16 million next season)

    Key stats: 1,987 points, 1,139 rebounds, 71 double-doubles

Outlook: Garnett could have done no more. He led the NBA in total points and total rebounds, set 11 single-season franchise records and averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for a fifth consecutive season. He was the team's leader on and off the court, pulling together all the new faces with his skills and work ethic. He removed a huge potential distraction on the eve of training camp by signing a five-year extension, passing up free agency, and even negotiated down to ease Wolves payroll concerns.

    Latrell Sprewell

    Guard/forward

Contract status: Player option for 2004-05 ($14.625 million next season)

Key stats: 16.8 ppg, 34 games of 20+ ppg, 18 in single digits.

Outlook: Sprewell became the team's intensity gauge; the Wolves were 18-3 when he scored at least 24 points and 17-3 when he hit 50 percent of his shots. Sprewell can be a free agent this summer, but that's highly unlikely for a couple of reasons. First, he won't command an offer close to the $14.6 million the Wolves are obligated to pay him if he returns. Second, he has said repeatedly that he enjoyed this season, playing alongside Garnett and Cassell. </div>
