<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">On paper, the choice facing Timberwolves swingman Latrell Sprewell later this month seems to be a simple one: Hang on to his guaranteed salary of $14.625 million for next season or opt out to test free agency and seek something better.

Wolves owner Glen Taylor wondered Friday, though, why it's such an either-or proposition.

"I'm not sure why you'd want to give up this year [2004-05] when it's such a large amount of money," he said in a phone interview. "When you think how you could probably get them both."

Taylor said that, based on Sprewell's performance this season, he expects the veteran scorer to have another strong showing in 2004-05. Then, even at age 34, he would be in line for a new contract with the Wolves or another team.

"You'd see where the guy is and where he would be [as a productive player] in the future," Taylor said. "If he still had the energy and desire to play, I can't believe he wouldn't be able to get a deal." </div>

If Sprewell plays out his contract, it'd be a gamble he's taking. If his stock drops next season, the price he would fetch would be inevitably lower, since he would be 35. If he goes into free agency this season, he'd lose $14 mil, but would sign a 3-4 year contract worth around $20 million.

Latrell is stuck at a crossroads, and I think he'd be wiser to actually make the $14 million than lose it, and hope to have another good season next year.

I think he should stay. If money were never an issue, which it obviously is, it's a good amount for a good home. I feel he's found a place and made friends, he fits in really well with the new way the Timberwolves play and run under Flip Saunders. Like Trip said, it's surefire 14 mill, why risk getting less?

I think Taylor's already laid out the plan for Spree to retire a T'Wolf when he said that it didn't make sense for him to opt out of his current contract but rather to sign an extension to his current contract. To his credit, Taylor's willingness to spend money is commendable & will make the T'Wolves champions sometime VERY SOON.

Well back when he was a knick spree laided it out to the media he wanted to retire with the knicks but new that probable wouldnt happen and now that he is with the wolves surrounder by an enviornment that supports him and his team and one step from the finals along side the mvp with a guarenteed 14 millon it would be probable the best move for him to stay.

He has no reason to leave he is so close to a ring with this team is playing next year in what imo I believe to be the weakest conference in the west with the t-wolves, jazz, sonic, blazers, and jazz. I would stay if I was him plus he doesnt have to play out of position if he goes to another team he will most likely have to play the small forward spot and not his natural 2 spot so imo he should stay.

I would really hate Spree to leave. Hes geting offered good$ and if he stays he is very likely to get a ring. He played excellent his first 1sy time with the wolves, and I only expect him to get better. He gets plenty of love and support from his team and the wolves fans, so why would he really want to leave? The wolves honestly would have t be the best place for him to retire, he would be a huge peice in leading them to a title(s) the next few years.

The only place I had heard Spree was interested in going to was the Kings, where he would spend his last few years with his long time pal C-webb, not sure how that whole thing would work out there, but it doesnt make sens for spree to leave...

Alos if the kings are the team he is intrested in its a long shot he would go there because the kings have little cash money at all they had to almost dismantal there team trading clark, having to let jim jackson go, and trading hedo to get cap room so I dont see him going there and he would have to split his minutes with christie so the best place is minnestota for him.

He won't go there because he's developed a tremendous friendship with KG & with all his teammates here. He's alot closer to winning a ring here than going to the Kings, where he'd have to split time with Whipped Boy, Peja, Bobby Jackson & AP.

Factor in that he'd be leaving a team with KG & going to a team with CWebb & it's impossible for me to think he's leaving. CWebb isn't a bad player but I'd take KG over him any day of the week & twice on Sundays.

Finally, factor in that Taylor's willing to give him a solid guaranteed contract above what he'd get in Sacramento & this rumor's credibility disappears instantly.

That really isnt our choice its his as shown in this thread and in the season its self we would love to keep him on our team but its not our choice we have made him an offer which will be offered on July 1st when we can officially begin to offer free agents contracts but in the end it will be his choice weather he stays or goes and most likely from the cash amount and the teams support from players such as KG and everyone else in minnesota he will hopefully stay.

Yes, it's his choice but that doesn't mean that logic can't pretty much figure out what he's gonna do.

In the end, I'm glad that we agree that he'll likely stay here. Signing Spree to an extension will make me a happy T'Wolf fanatic. [IMG] [IMG]
