<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It's NBA feng shui, Chris Mullin-style: Clean line of authority, clean lineup of offices at Warriors headquarters, no smudgy questions and no way to hide.

Zen and the art of franchise repair.

Executive Vice President Mullin's office is next to General Manager Rod Higgins' office. To get to Mullin's, you have to go by Higgins'. A few feet away is Coach Mike Montgomery's office. One floor down is the gym and locker room.

A strong straight line, in a place where crooked intentions and blurry decision-making dominated for years.

To complete the line, Mullin sealed the door from his office to the main corridor that used to be filled with staffers and cronies passing by Garry St. Jean's desk.

Now the only way to Mullin's desk is to literally walk the line, from Montgomery to Higgins to where the buck stops.

``The last few years in the NBA have been tough on coaches -- the turnover's been immense,'' Montgomery said about the recent failure of college coaches in the NBA.

``What does that indict? That doesn't indict college coaches, it kind of talks about everybody. This is not easy. You've just got to have an organization that's going to be patient, make sure you're doing things the right way.''

Montgomery said he wakes up every day eager to set up his staff, sift through strategies and meet with Mullin and Higgins. He said he's pleased to see elements of his Cardinal offense pop up all over the current NBA playoffs.

I like that article. It's a sign of good change. Very symbolic, especially about the accountability when it comes to who is making the decisions and who is ultimately going to be responsible. I was very impressed with the veteran lineup Mullin put together this year in spite of my earlier doubts about them. The locker room presence not only helped the younger players, it must have also helped the coaches to understand the players. If we can keep a good lockeroom next year and some veteran nba coaches, Montgomery's growing pains as an NBA head coach will be less painful. Also if St. Jean can make us a good draft pick we'll be set.
