    I was really high on him too...I was hoping the Lakers would hold onto him and develop him but they never really gave him a shot....does anybody know where he is now?

    Penn was definitely the better college player ... but his poor senior year and his lack of size prevented him from getting into the league...

    Redd in the other hand improved like crazy once he got into the league...that's a testament to his work ethic more than anything...

    What ever happen to Ken Johnson ,the center, who played with them at Ohio Sate, when they went to the final four. he was extremely long and athletic. I know he was drafted by the heat a couple of season after Redd & Sconnie got drafted but I remember him only playing a few games

    You would think he would find his way on some squad based on his size & shot blocking skills.

    The Cynic is happy to hear others mention Lionel Simmons and Richard Dumas. These were 2 players who actually DID do something in the league, and then faded away. Another player in this mode would be Chris Jackson.

    Other players the Cynic thought would turn out better than they did include:
    Bo Kimble
    Mark Macon (Temple)
    and whatever happened to Michael Dickerson???

    Chronic injuries struck him down and forced him to retire. A real shame too, as he had some real game.

    I saw Korleone Young mentioned in this thread. Last I heard of him was a couple of years ago - he had signed for a team in the Australian league and I was anxious to see how he went, as he had a lot of unfulfilled potential coming into the league and just needed a dominant season down here to IMO get his career back on track, and then he blew his knee out without even playing a game.

    Whatever happened to Jason Gardner? I remember him going back to school when his stock was high and going undrafted, is he in Europe?

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Wave:</div><div class="quote_post">The Jones that plays for the Grizzlies has an "ay" at the end of his name. It's Dantay Jones, not Mississippi State's Dantae Jones.

    Speaking of which, Dontae Jones was a good player for Miss. St.

    2)DaSagana Diop - I knew he had a bit of a weight problem and lacked some important fundamentals, but I was still expecting him to be an impact player right off the bat. Afterall, Centers are highly coveted in this league. For a guy Diop's size that was as highly touted as he was, I was expecting more. He never even began to live up to his hype.
    </div>

    Coming out of HS, scouts said that Diop was very raw. That was part of the deal. He has only been playing organized basketball for a few years. In fact, its a very similar situation to Olowakandi. Scouts said Curry was more ready and had a more refined offensive game. But Diop was the better shotblocker/rebounder. But the big deal was whatever team drafted him was drafting him for the long haul. So its really no surprise he hasn't "broken out" yet. If I remember correctly, he has only been playing organized basketball since he was 15/16.

    3)AJ Guyton - Like Moo2k4 just mentioned, AJ Guyton was expected by a lot of people to be a lot better than he was. He had a short stint with both the Bulls and the Lakers I believe, but his early career was ultimately a failure. He was awesome at Indiana. I remember when the Michigan State team that had Cleaves and Petterson played Guyton's Indiana team. It was one of the closest and most intense games I've ever seen. It came down to a last second three point shot, and Guyton made it. He was truely a talented, clutch point guard.
    </div>

    He was a talented Guard. As in shooting guard. He didn't have the handles for the NBA, which is why he washed out. He was a short 2guard.

    I thought Will Avery would be a nice point in the league, but he disappeared after spending a few years on Minnesota's bench. I know Donyell Marshall didn't disappear, but he was nasty in college...I thought he'd star in the pros.

    I always thought Ed Cota could play in the league. He had a suspect shot but his ball handling and passing skills were tops in the NCAA (lead NCAA in assists). He was also listed as 6'1 as well so he would have been a good height to play the point.

    When Vince Carter was drafted I was secretly pining for the Raps to get Cota as well so he could just throw him alley oops all day.

    Jason Williams #2 pick by the BULLS!

    I know there's been an accident but wow, talk about loss of talent.... what's he been up to? Will he ever get a chance to play?

    Another Williams down in Memphis. Sure he didn't disappear yet but I always thought he could be an all-star... double platinum days with CWebb in Sacremento were the days. [IMG]

    He's working towards recovery. He is hoping to one day be able to play basketball again.

    Its a shame he was injured. It set the Bulls back a few years. His quickness was off the charts. When comparing this years PG prospects to last year, I was looking at the lane agility tests, and it wasn't even close....Williams "ran away" with it.

    Vintage, don't Chhicago still have an option to retain him when/if he recovers, instead of immediately becoming an unrestricted F/A?

    Actually didn't the Bulls buy out his contract, maybe I am wrong but I think thats what happened. My guess is he never plays another game in the L.

    The Bulls bought out his contract.

    The Bulls were very classy about this incident. His contract could have simply been voided as under the "cannot perform" clause. But instead the Bulls opted to pay him and help Jay on the road to recovery.

    Duffy(Williams' agent) and Williams both were very grateful to the Bulls organization for their handling of the situation. Though it has never been quoted, there has been some strong hints that if Williams were to return, he'd try to return to the Bulls since they handled his situation quite well.

    Definately, the kid has played one proper season, averaged 13 points a game, had his fair share of highlights and had strong a very strong start, and a strong finish to the season.

    At least give him a few seasons to prove his worth. That comment is like saying a rookie is on his way to obscurity because he's hit the rookie wall.

    Jay Williams is actually playing in a summer pro league on the Jersey Shore in his hometown of New Jersey. And he said that he plans on working out for a few teams at the end of the summer. It was in a local New York/tri-state newpaper last weekend.

    If a player played in the NbA, a decade or better you cant consider them someone who disappeared when the average NBA career for a player is 6 years, especially 2 guys like Chris Jackson & Clearance Whetherspoon, who both put together solid NBA careers with double-digit career scoring averages.

    Chris Jackson seems like he faded away because he ended his career with the Van. Grizzlies but every player that ends their career with the Grizzlies seemed like that fade into nowhere, Kevin Edwards & Doug West were the same way. I think its because before the Grizzlies moved to Memphis & started winnning, they got no media attention whatsoever.
