In the Boston Herald (I can't get the link because it doesn't show the address bar) the league had a possible request for fast break points being worth 3 points. What do you think?
I don't like this proposal at all. It's just plain stupid in my opinion. But I'm sure Jason Kidd wouldn't mind. Although, it would increase the scoring, which is something that most of these NBA teams lack, but I really don't like this idea.
That would be ridiculous and what would be the point of that? What would be considered a fast break? Where would they draw the line?
I'm pretty easy to distinguish what is a fast break and what isn't a fast break. Don't let the possibilities of this being implemented confuse you. That's often what people do, they comprehend something fully, but once another issue comes along they think too hard about the subject and ask questions they know the answer to. I'm not insulting anyone, but I'm confident that the NBA, its officials, and other personnel know what a fast break is. Either way there is a fat chance that this rule gets put in I believe.
That would be interesting. It would indefinitely make games higher in scoring. And, it would make teams like the Nets, Kings, and Mavs even tougher to beat.
What would be considered a fast break? One way is to put a timer, if you score under lets say 8 seconds(I don't know what the avg fastbreak is, I never counted) that's a fastbreak. But how much should a shot from beyond the arc on a fastbreak count as? I seriously doubt it'll pass though it could be interesting, but it'll change the game too much.

its stupid, because its much more harder to make a 2 point shot with a hand in your face than make an easy lay-up or a easy dunk!
I think this would be the worst rule change in sports history, that's like something you see in a MTV celebrity BBall game. It's corny as hell and I think I would have to ditch the NBA for something like this. I know most of you guys would agree.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">lol...why don't you enlighten us with your great knowledge and tell us what exactly would be considered a fast break?</div> For someone playing college ball you should know what a fast break is.
If you are on a fastbreak and you stop and pull up at the 3 point line, is that worth 4 points? This rule change is crazy, I hope it never happens.
this is dumb as hell. all is going to do is having teams leave one guy behind for a long pass and an easy three points. why would you defend your basket if just by grabbing the ball and passing it the lenght of the court you could get one more point? let them shoot.
Stupid Stupid Stupid Rule. Teams like the Nets would be unstoppable...it is a simple layup most of the time, let them get their two points.
They come up with this suggestion for no apparent reason. If the fast break has a flaw or whatever, then I would understand why they would apply this new rule.
<font size="2">This is obviously a blatant attempt on the NBA's part to try to increase scoring. If they did implement this rule it would be horrible. It would be a big slap in the face to the past if this rule was ever passed. Maybe this can be a wakeup call for teams to start getting out on the break and playing team basketball. </font>

If they want to increase the pace of games, they can implement other rules besides this stupid one. They can make the shot clock 20 seconds, smaller courts and 52 minute games etc.
This was attempted before in one of the professional leagues here in the Philippines, the Metropolitan Basketball Association. It was called the Blitz 3. If you score during the first 4 seconds of possession (which is clearly via fastbreak) then you get 3 points. It was an attempt to make the game faster. The league folded up a few years ago. It was a stupid rule really. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe 8 Ball:</div><div class="quote_post">Stupid Stupid Stupid Rule. But as a basketball fan, it's not good. Some teams will try too hard to get that 3 fastbreak points and will sometimes result to sloppy plays. I mean, not all teams are like the Nets who run the break with perfection.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting sunsfan1357:</div><div class="quote_post">For someone playing college ball you should know what a fast break is.</div>Yes I know what a fast break is but there could be a lot of different interpertations of it. Why is that hard for you to understand?
!st of all the rule is extremely stupid, seems like something a bogus basketball league would do to generate quick excitement. Seems very "arena footballish" or XFL to me. Plus the rule would hardly work anyway because they would have to increase the value of a free throw because all teams would do is foul 24/7 if they think a team even has a slight chance of starting a fastbreak off a tunover or a missed shot, even if it meant committing a bunch of breakaway fouls which sends a team to the line for free thows& then give them the ball back. So that wouldnt speed the game up, it would more likely slow the game down.
thats GOT to be the dumbest thing ive ever heard sounds to me like some sports writer acting as SIMPLY a sports fan and printing a "cool idea" it'll never happen...even though i think the "higher ups" in all 4 major sports are complete idiots...i really don't think the "higher ups" in the NBA would be stupid enough to even CONSIDER implementing sucha ridiculous rule that "cool idea" deserves an eye roll.....::eye roll::
