How am I a Lakers fan? Well, firstly, I actually like the team. I like all the players on the team, except at this current moment I HATE Gary Payton because he's playing terrible and is part of the reason why the Lakers aren't winning a damn thing. Another reason, I like the history of the team. From the championships to the great players that have came and played for them. It's one of the more storied teams in sports. That's how. Now, if liking a team because of the past and present is bad, inform me.

    Let me break this down.

If you don't live at the city where the team is played, then we shouldn't like the team (especially if the team is good). If you however think otherwise, you are considered a "bandwagon fan".

    Add that to the guildlines.

When I started this thread it had nothing to do with banwagon fans. I will take some of the blame for derailing this thread. This is what I meant:

I hear a lot of Lakers fans complaining about how the Lakers don't put in the effort and mostly win with talent alone and they only step it up when their backs are against the wall. I was just curious as to how Lakers fans feel about this. I hope that clears it up a bit.

bandwagoners aren't JUST about geography. Bandwagoners were the annoying kids on the playground who told you how long they'd liked the bulls once Jordan got them their rings (in oklahoma or wherever). Now they are the ones who are annoying bums telling you they've watched the Lakers (or whoever else is running a dynasty) since way back (still in oklahoma or wherever).
Liking a team should not be about THEIR history so much as it should be about your history or your family history or your home's history. Liking a team because they have a dynasty behind them is like gambling on them to win again because the odds are good, psychologically. The opposite of cheering for underdogs (because you like to see the fat cats get their come uppance from someone who's had to struggle and put forth a good attitude (my avatar).)
When I see the Suns uniforms I think of when I started watching basketball in AZ when I was 10 and following KJs (and Majerle and others') career and then playing my first basketball in junior high. I don't play anymore and I'm a couple thousand miles away but the association is still strong.

The LAkers joking is obnoxious and arrogant and propagates the notion that they need to get taken out by some underdogs.

I personally loved Payton in his Seattle days and feel he's mired his image by ring chasing but I don't begrudge him his dreams. I just wish he could play better.

The Laker haters didn't crop up in response to the Lakers winning all the time as much as they came about becuase of the proliferation of casual basketball fans that were all the sudden Laker rabid. It's annoying to a loyal fan when you have a hard time finding a decent hat of your team for all the laker gear around. Seeing all the fashionistas struttin' their laker wear. All the jokers talking smack about nothing but how the Lakers are winners... the bandwagoner (that has to be spelled wrong) is a spoiler because he usually acts like he knows more than a casual local fan would. etc. It's about personality types, not just the Lakers.

Another thing that's different about the recent Laker dynasty teams vs. old laker teams or the bulls or the pistons or the celtics is that there is a lot more petty bullcrap being aired out in the media nowadays. Shaq and Kobe publicly snipping at each other like a couple of freshman cheerleaders is infuriating. Shaq acts like a big heifer starlet too. I admit up til Kobe and Shaq started airing thier laundry on tv I thought Kobe seemed like an allright guy.

The Lakers big four seem to be sulking... Kobe is workin it but Shaq's second half performance in game 3?!

I think it's commendable that most of the Laker fans kept there cool.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">Not true. The Warriors have been unsuccessful for so long because of very poor management and ownership, I didn't know that was even a debate. So if teams don't make the playoffs you are implying that they didn't bring it every night? I think having the talent has a lot to do with it.</div>

C'mon Rudeezy. Does that sound fair? The Warriors players have an excuse to lose ballgames because of poor management and ownership?? Let me take an example out of baseball and I'll keep it close to the Bay Area. The Oakland Athletics. The A's have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball, they really don't have much talent compared to other teams with higher payrolls, and they are one of the most successful teams in baseball today. Point is, it doesn't matter about talent. If all 12 guys on that basketball court can play with heart, the will to win, determination and that mindset coming in that they expect to win, the Warriors would definitely not be the laughingstock of the league.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">I think you misunderstood me. I am seriously asking this question because I hear so many lakers fans(not you) complaining about the Lakers effort and how they only play when they want to play.</div>

People can question the Lakers effort all they want, but the point is lazy or not they definitely have the championship rings to show for it. This might be a typical excuse, but it's the truth.

If you knew anything about the Warriors and A's you would know how different they are. I'll fill you in on this:
    1. The A's have the best GM in all of baseball. The Warriors have/had the worst.
    2. The A's have an excellent farm system, maybe the best.
    3. The A's have a great pitching staff which we all know is what makes a team successful.

Please, don't compare two totally opposite teams with nothing in common besides playing in the bay area.

I'm not questioning the Lakers effort. I am one of those people who believe that when the Lakers lose they get outplayed and out coached and when they win vice versa. I have heard time and time again, even from you, Lakers fans complaining about their effort and how they don't bring it every night. I was just asking how you get up for a team that plays like that if in fact you believe that.

My point being is it doesn't matter about talent. Opponents can look down on you from not having as much talent, but if all 12 of your Warriors players can play with heart, determination, and the will to succeed rather than coming in with a losing mentality, then there will be hope for Bay Area basketball. Sorry if you got confused with my baseball analogy. [IMG]

That is a good question. I just get fired up for the love of the team. Phil Jackson's coaching, Kobe Bryant's playmaking ability, Shaq's domination. Maybe they don't give it their all in the regular season, but at least they have winning records and earn the best possible seeding available in the playoffs. I come back to my point saying the Lakers have rings to show their hard work. If they were such a lazy team, I'm sure people would say those rings weren't hard earned or they were tainted. (Something Sacramento loves to say when we turn back the clock in 2002.)

I understand what you are getting at but talent is what the NBA is about. Sure their will be those teams that suprise people but ultimately, the most talented teams will be the ones last standing.

Jamison, Richardson, and Arenas don't have talent? Larry Hughes has talent. Problem? He didn't bring it every night because of his attitude. Spree, Smith, and Dampier didn't have talent (yes Dampier had a couple good years)? Spree, Hardaway, and Googs didn't have talent? The Warriors have had talent, that's why they remain to be one of the bigger disappointments in the league. The problems were obviously injuries and attitude. They didn't give their effort every night, that's why they lost and that's why the continue to lose.

^ actually sunsfan is right on that one Rudeezy, it isn't all on the management. They should have definitely made the playoffs with the roster they had last year, and maybe even the year before that. They've had the talent, they just don't get anywhere. So you can't blame the losing of the Warriors all on the front office, as you do. So why do you get up and root for your team? Because you just like them. The same reasons with us and why we watch the Lakers.

Larry Hughes wasn't a team player. I don't see your point if you have one. This thread is about Lakers fans feelings towards their team supposedly not playing hard every night. Keep it on topic.

Man today you're filled with posts that don't refute anything I've said at all. Must be a great talent you have. This is on point, you are saying how can people cheer for a team that doesn't give any effort when you just have to look straight in the mirror. I don't think many teams have more talent than Tim Hardaway in his prime, Spree in his most productive years, and Googs when he was producing on a wide scale, plus Mullin for more than half the season. It's ok just to admit when someone else has a point, heck I admit when I'm wrong when the facts are staring at me right in the face, but to say I don't have a point and to get back on topic is an insult considering you were willing to argue my point up until my last post.

*edit* Let's not forget the year(s) (not sure) with both Webber and Spree...

This thread has severly ruined the course of what is being talked about. Obviosly things are getting out of hand. The title alone screams "Lets argue" If I was you Rud, I would close the thread.
