The NBA's Competition Committee did not come up with anything earth-shattering when it met here during the league's annual predraft camp. But that doesn't mean some radical suggestions weren't discussed.

According to sources from several teams, one of the wilder concepts was offering a team three points for a fast-break basket.

NBA vice president Stu Jackson confirmed the talk yesterday.

``We explored the possibility,'' he said. ``But it's nothing we'll be doing. We talked a lot about the level of scoring in our games and ways to speed up the pace. Everybody agreed that it's something that needs to continue to be monitored, but no one was ready to make any drastic changes in the game at present.''

No way should they do that, makes it easier for a player to score higher points per game giving them a better shot to break jordans and other great hall of famer's records..it would be kind of hard sometimes for a ref to tell if it is a fastbreak or not..at least in the beginning..

    all in all stupid idea

I don't think it's too bad of an idea. It'll certainly be something new for us, plus what the heck, you've all been complaining how bad scoring and offense have been due to the improved defense or rather zone defense. Then this is your chance to witness higher scoring.

IMO, it wouldnt make scoring too much higher, because there would be so much more focus on defending the fast break.

If the NBA wants to get higher scoring games, they need to get rid of the zone defense and make the shot clock marginally smaller (22secs?)

Make it 20 ... But then again, the Pistons would be upset with that rule cause they can't break the record of fewest points allowed [IMG]

I certainly hope that was a joke. That'd make scoring way too high and easy, especially for the more athleticism reliant teams.

You should have thought of shaq before you said that.

 Exactly, then Shaq would be the one breaking the scoring barriers.

Almost half of shaq's baskets are dunks.

But it would be good because on wide open plays nobody would lay it in like Kobe Bryant did at the allstar game. :thumbsdow

True that but these are REAL games we are talking about.. Not all star games but 3 pts for dunks are... hmm... interesting.. That means we will DEFINITELY see more people try to dunk...even OVER people which will be fun to see. But what if you get FOULed as you dunk? do you get a 4 - point play? that would be too common and would really swing the game around.. But i kinda like that idea cuz it would make the game more exciting (i mean 65-78 games are exciting too but we dont want it to be TOO draggy like MLB or Soccer, for good news sake) we will see kobe, tmac, vince, lebron dunking OVER people like MJ used to.

I think they should add another 3pt stripe and make it worth 4pts.

Another good one for my Nets team, but bad for the league. [IMG]

That could also make a good idea. About 35 feet from the rim will be 4 points but youngsters will be practicing on that all day and eventually, the scoring will get too high. I think everything so far is pretty good.

Don't want to change the sport of basketball you know. [IMG]

If they did change scoring in anyway, it's unfair to those who have some scoring records in the past that have actually achieved their goals fairly. I don't like any idea about changing any of the scoring. Whats wrong with it now? It would just take away things that have happened in the past and would be unfair to those who have made achievments. Thats my opinion.

if they did do that it would be cool...teams like NJ and Phily would be racking up on points...especially with all the and 1 plays...but i wouldnt want players taking records from hall of famers just because of this new rule..

Stupid idea, it's better to make another line for 4pointers.
