Because , we have a GREAT back-up PG...I think having a good starting PG would be a really good upgrade for Olrando having the 1 , 2 , 3 and 4 covered....Could you imagine Lue as our back-up PG? he was a starter all year long..I think Lue for us is a really big Plus for the next few seasons.
Agreed Lue did amazing coming off the bench a couple of games this season. We just need a starter that can start amazing and then Lue can finish.
The team needs a point guard mainly for defence. Someone to pressure the ball and slow the pace of the opponents, to rotate and help out other players on D, and stop the ball from ever getting to the post. Another reason is to help out on offence, if Tracy is ever not available, point guards can move the ball around, force D to come out, and allow the other guard and forwards to move around to find shots. Most of the time point guards are smart players and good leaders... Ever since Darrell left, Magic has been struggling to learn how to play without anyone experienced at the point. That may be the main reason for their perfetic perimeter defence. Hopefully if Hill fully comes back, he can adjust and help out at 1. But still I would like to see Magic sign/trade for a real point guard in the offseason... Hope that made some sence. As for Lue, he can really heat up sometimes. He is really underated at mid range shooting.
I agree with you on the defense part. The past three times we were in the playoff we where dominated by the other team pg.
Lue said himself that he would be a better and more comfortable player coming off the bech,I think the Magic need a past first pg and a pg that plays solid defense.
Read somewhere that the Magic were expecting to get Antonio Daniels or another veteran guard, but couldn't. So Lue was forced to start...
Mainly, we have been trying to get a big PG the last couple of drafts(sasser/gaines) that will play D. We also need someone to give the rock up and set our scorers up good. Lue would be a good BACKUP, he definetely shouldn't be starting though.
Shaun Livingston is the kind of guy that they need as a PG, the only downside with him right now is the fact that it might take him a year or two to develop into a star point guard. However, if the Magic trade down in the draft (not likely), they'll probably end up taking him.
Because, as I've said time and time again, PG's and C's are the backbone to a good team. You have neither. You need someone who can set the tempo as well as create for both his teammates and himself. Someone capable to at least take on the likes of say Tony Parker. Although you're probably getting a C, if you were to get a PG in the draft, seeing as you need someone now, get Nelson, he's the most NBA ready PG, I'd say Gordon but he's a combo guard.
Not at #1 though, we would trade down to about 10 to get Jameer. Since we have an excess of PF's, I wouldn't mind trading Gooden.(I really wish we would trade Juwan though) Trade Gooden for around the 7-9 range and get a PG.
Since T-Mac didn't lead the team the way he was expected to, Juwan stepped up and sort of became the leader of the team and brought some character. Although he lacks some size and didn't do that well on D this season, he was very consistent on offence. Unless Magic find leaders in the offseason, Orlando should keep him.
^^^wtf Juwan was definitely not the leader this season. Tmac was just as consistent on offense as juwan was. However both players were not leaders the magic did not have one.

If I was the GM, Juwan Howard would be the first person to go. I would take the best avalable offer. (Even if it was a really late 1st) Mainly to give Gooden the starters minutes. Gooden does have more trade value and the Magic organization does like Juwan, so that leads me to believe that Gooden will be gone. Another future superstar /good player off of our hands. (Adds on to Shaq, Matt Harpring, Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, Corey Maggette and I know I'm forgetting a lot. ) Goose also said. "We need to play 3 and a half good minutes of defense to win the game" (There was only 3.5 secs left in the game) He seems like a cool guy, but he doesn't always say the right things.
We need a Leader? Thats really the main reason.. The point guard is the leader of the team, he controls a lot of things, Tyronn Lue can't control anything..
