I could be wrong on this list, but the paper said we DIDN't protect

    Deshawn Stevenson(shocker)
    Zaza
    Reece Gaines
    Britton Johnson

So it leads me to believe that the 8 we are protecting are....

    Tmac
    Grant Hill
    Juwan Howard
    Drew Gooden
    Tyronn Lue
    Keith Bogans
    Pat Garrity
    Andrew Declerq

I can't believe Declerq over Zaza and Garrity/Hill over Stevenson. I thought Stevenson was going to be a lock at protecting. He likely will be a Bobcat next season. What are your opinions?

In my opinion Garrity (healthy one) has more value than Stevenson, but yeah, hill is questionable because of his injury. He could be left unprotected because I think that there are small chances of him getting selected.

Huh..between Declerq and Zaza...IMHO (but I did only see 2 games of Zaza), they are both pretty much bad players (they share almost equal stats, but Declerq has beter % of his shots and FT), so they probably would like to stick with a "veteran" or sth.

But to leave Stevenson unprotected kinda shocked me to. Why did we trade for him then? Altough, than they would have to let sb else unprotected. I'd lefte Howard unprotected. He did a good job this season, but I doubt he'd be picked because of his contract.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see, but I think that Stevenson is a goner now...He is the best player between the 4 of them.

I am guessing they left Stevenson because he will be a free agent, and will probably ask for a bigger salary. I don't think Magic want to spend much money on 2 or 3's.

And Declerq, he may not be very skilled but he plays hard every night and doesn't stop until he is in foul trouble. Zaza doesn't have very good footwork and his defence is pretty mediocre.

I would like to see Magic stay with Gaines. He played well in the last few games of the season and will get better with more minutes. But Bobcats will likely not draft him, so Magic didn't screw up too much here.

Britten is just a signe and I don't think Bobcats care about him that much.

I have no idea why the Magic kept Hill protected, Bobcats wouldn't draft him anyway. But they must know something I don't...

Overall its not a really bad move by the Magic, although they could have done better...

K now this is nonsense. Andrew over Zaza? What are they thinking? Now I understand why there protecting Hill and Pat. They feel that when these guys come back that they will be there old selfs therefore helping McGrady out and keeping him happy. We all know that they won't come back 100% but I know I am sure as hell hoping they come close.

Read the G.Hill thread a few posts down. RUmor has it that the Bobcats could take Hill and then trade him to a team who wants salary cap relief next year if his career is done. Similar to what the Wolves did with Terrell Brandon.

I wouldn't say Declerq's footwork and defense is better than mediocre too. Zaza's a young guy, he hustles almost as much as Declerq and he has way more upside. The games he played 20+ mins he seemed to get near a double double. When is the last time we had a center avg near a double double? Probably not since Rony Seikaly 5 or 6 years ago and Shaq before that. That would be a huge boost for our team. Not just for the offensive side, but rebounding in general. I would like Declerq to be a backup and get about 5-10 mins. That's what he should be getting now. He was be very solid as a backup, giving off his energy. BUT IN NO WAY SHOULD HE BE A STARTER.

That was my only problem with your post. You hit Gaines and Britton Johnsen right on. I wasn't even aware that Britton Johnsen was signed for this year too, I thought he was gonna be a FA after last year was over.

    Whoa........

Zaza is a Mark Madsen type player. I like people like that on a team because they come in and do something that no one else does... Declerq doesnt, and to be quite honest...... He sucks. He just sucks. As a Starter anyway.

I dont understand the reasoning in unprotecting Stevenson.. Hill being unprotected would of been the smartest thing to do.. Who wants him? He has a big salary, he hasn't played much(As we all know) because of his injury, and hes old. No one would want to trade for him through the bobcats, and the bobcats wouldnt take him with their salary. Its like an extra protected player.

I really have no faith in Gaines, mainly cause he didn't get any playing time, and that already discourages him most likely. And of course Johnsen was a must do. They are better off releasing him in the end.. He is worthless to us.

The Bobcats don't HAVE to pick one of every team right? I think Stevenson is a FA...anyways if they HAVE to pick one they will most likely get ZaZa or Gaines...

I was counting on ZaZa and Stevenson for next season , since we have two 2nd round picks we are good enough to draft backup PF's and or SG's but I think Stevenson as a back up SG is really good for Orlando.

No they don't. If that were true they'd have a 30 man roster. [IMG]

But they can only take ONE player from each team.

Deshawn Stevenson is basically a Bobcat right now. Low salary, hustle player that has some D. Unless there are a bunch of guys like that, then I doubt he will be a Magic next yera.
