After watching the Pistons dominate the mighty Lakers and represent the East in the Finals has your perception of the Eastern teams changed? If the Pistons go on to win the NBA Title, will it be enough to redeem the respectibility of the Eastern Conference? How else will this impact the league, if the Pistons win, do you see more players and teams buying into the concept of unselfish play and balance?
Well if the pistons win, which i still dont think they will i dont think it will CHANGE the league perse but it will mark the first time in decades a team won a title in this league without one of the top 2 or 3 players in the league on their team which will do littler more than give other teams hope to build a championship team thru the draft and trading without a dominant player. but as a celtics fan, a flicker of hope would be a welcome change
Not really, the East is still the Least, just because 1 team is game enough to beat a Western Conference team doesn't mean the whole conference deserves more respect. The second question only happens if Larry Brown clones himself and his clones coach a few more teams, or if Hubie Brown or Jerry Sloan clone themselves.
the east as a whole wont get more respect if pistons win. the only east teams that deserve respect are the pistons/pacers/nets,thats about it. there will probably be another 2-3 teams this upcoming year to make the playoffs while being under .500. of course it can change based on what teams do in the offseason. the pacers/nets/pistons i don't consider a leastern team. those teams are only a player or two away from winning it all, as showed by detroit getting the one player they needed in sheed. so if the nets/pacers add that one player, then these three teams can win multiple titles in the upcoming year. they will be able to compete with the spurs/wolves/lakers/kings in the years to come. but everyone else in the east has a ways to go, unless they make franchise-type trades or aquire big names in FA.
IMO even if the Pistons win (which I think they have a friggin great chance to, but not 100% yet ) the East won't get the respect that instantly... Pistons are the only East team that get to the Finals to actually play and compete with the West team, not get there and earn the rights to be eliminated like other East teams. The Pacers come second right now, but it's not even close.
No, probably not, the west still has more better teams and one team in the east winning a championship wont change that. But through out the years they might, cause the rookies, the nba's future, has(in the east) lebron, wade, bosh, darko? and upcoming players like okafor and others which will go mostly to the east will get the good players. Even though the west will get good players too.
There will only be a few teams that can hang with the west, and maybe win a championship.. There could be a couple more in years to come.. But as of now, there will still be Under 500 Teams making the playoffs for a while.
the east is the future, the west will be better for the next few years (regardless of the pistons winning or losing...) but the future of the nba lies in the east
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting insshc:</div><div class="quote_post">the east is the future, the west will be better for the next few years (regardless of the pistons winning or losing...) but the future of the nba lies in the east</div> Why is that? I see some names that CAN become great, but what about the Grizzlies, Nuggets, Rockets and such. Plus, who's to say that the names represented to be the future of the East will stay there?
I think if the Pistons go on to win, which, it is looking more and more likely that they will, I think it will give THEM more respect, but, no necessarily the Eastern Conference. Just because they manage to beat the Lakers, doesn't mean someone like the Nets or Pacers would have. But, in terms of respect for them, I definitely think they will get more. But, overall, the West still has the better teams. They still consistently have more teams over the .500 mark. But, the East is getting there. Very slowly, but, they're getting there.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mr_Infante:</div><div class="quote_post">West will always be the dominating conference. The Piston's are just out playing them.</div> I strongly agree man.
The NBA East is still weak in general,as the Pistons are the exception to the rule. The NBA West still is the most dominant,as teams like The Spurs,T-Wolves,Kings,Lakers i still see dominating the NBA Peroid But than again..i could be wrong and see the NBA East dominate next year???

It is enough to redeem respect for Detroit. The Pistons have won and I don't necesserily think that teams will buy into the concept of unselfish play because it's not something we don't know about. Ask a third grader and he'll say that unselfish play is important. But, I do think that more teams will rather go for defensively-oriented players and coaches rather than the "Dallas Mavericks" types.
Aside from the top two teams, the East is still very weak. They do have two legit title contenders, but all of the other teams don't even compare to the other playoff teams in the West. Maybe in a couple of years, but for now they're still the lEast.
Congrats to the East, they won the title. But, they're still not even close to the West. It shows too. Prior to this year, 5 straight years the West had won. And, aside from the Nets, Pistons, and Pacers, there is really no team that can compete with the West. There are teams making strides torwards being able to do so, but, I don't see it happening anytime soon. The West is still the dominant conference even though they didn't win the championship.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting PupMelo:</div><div class="quote_post"> The Pacers come second right now, but it's not even close.</div>i still don't know why the nets don't get respect. they were the two time back2back ecf and almost beat the spurs last yr. yet a team with 61wins and still not playoff proven gets more respect....and it isnt like the nets were a 1 year wonder or anything, they ended up to be detroits toughest opponent in these playoffs and still have their core group and have talented players...just don't get it

I know it's a big IF, but the teams that have beaten the Nets, usually do so and the Nets lose convincingly.
