What major adjustments will the Nets realisticly make in the off season? Being that KMart wants max contract, RJ will be a free agent next season, Kittles is a free agent, and that we have money floating around nonproduction players I.E. Alonzo, Rodney Rogers, and I think we're still paying out Motumbo's contract. To be honest with you I was looking at the way Detriot plays and i really love it great def and people say they have a really bad offense i dont think so but whats funny is every time they have a chance to run the fastbreak billups slows them down so they can kill clock which is a great strategy. Plus they have no real superstar like other teams, but i have to admit they have alot of emerging superstars like Hamilton . they have a bunch of roleplayers that gets the job done that what the Nets need they have superstars but no real roleplayers off the bench.
I believe the Nets need to add depth to the team. For the past three years the team has been constant while teams like the Pacers, Pistons, and Miami have been getting better and better. The Nets started out way and above everyone else, and now the other teams have caught up. The Nets need to get bigger to compete with the Pistons, and players like RJ and Kenyon (hopefully he stays) need to turn into go-to guys. RJ, I think has the potential to be a top 5 swingman in the league and if he can be a 21-6-4 player next year, then it be ideal. Kenyon, if he stay, should not settle for being a top power forward in the East, that is nothing to be proud of. The Nets need more bigs, Jason Collins just will not do. Barely 5 rebounds for a 7 footer in 30 minutes??? He needs to work on his jumper and hooks. He be a great back up center, but he's not helping as the starter. Shooters will help extremely. Lucious Harris, though I love his entensity, isn't getting the job done. Same goes for Rodney Rogers. I guess Brent Barry would be ideal. Or what about a sign and trade for Quentin Richardson? The Clippers are always looking to reduce payroll and Kerry comes off the books after next season. QRich is strong, quick, athletic and a good shooter. He definitely can help stretch the defense and let penetrators like RJ and Kidd get to the basket. If the Nets do trade Kittles, hopefully he'll still come back after next season. It be a shame to not see him in a Nets' jersey again.
^ Iam ot for sure that QRich would stretch the defense better than kittles but he would be an upgrade as far as creating his own shot. I think Q Rich is much better at crating his own shot than kittles. I was reading an article the other day & it was still a toss up on who would be the thrid person left unprotected along with Tamar Slay & Kerry Kittles . So I dont think its official whether we will leave Harris or Rogers unprotected. But I hope its Rodney even tho I the Bobcats want take him(they seem to be interested in Slay). but if you leave Rodney unprotected, you never know, by the grace of the basketball gods, the Bobcats may take Rogers. But anyway...... We need a backup point guard An upgrade at the 2 guard slot via a trade of Kittles, free Agency or the draft. And we need to add a bigman who can score in the half court to add to our front court depth. From the rumors we will probably do this with the #22 pick Hoefully Nenad Kristic & Eddie Griffen can join the team as well by the start of training camp.

I think they're improving, right? They went from the bottom of the league to the fourth seed. I would say that's a huge improvement and if they keep on getting better, Lamar, Caron, and Dwayne then they eventually will be better than the Nets. Are they going to be better in the near future? No, but eventually if New Jersey keeps constant. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting throwback:</div><div class="quote_post">ray allen could help to fix that problem if we trade for him. i would also like barry as a pickup as either a starter or backup. lu is one of my favs, but he is getting old and the sg position has evolved past him. he can make shots here and there, but he isnt quick enough. we need a speedy guy for a sg or a really good shooter. since we are a jumpshooting team, which i dont like, i think it would make more sense to try pull off the ray allen trade and then pick up barry or dj. i was also thinking about ginobli as a guy maybe we should go after. we all saw what he has done in SA and i think he can be a nice starter for us. he has energy and knows the game of baseketball. s.jackson has grown up since he was with us last. i doubt he would come back, but he wouldnt be that bad of a choice. i think s.jack would be behind manu and ray, but he can fit with this current nets team. if we can get manu,s.jack or barry in FA; then i would do the sar trade to get a big man (obviously that the right move. that would be great if this could happen but money is going to screw us over).</div> Great ideas, but unfortunately the Nets have one of the highest payrolls in the League. We wouldn't be able to sign any of those players over the MLE, and Manu would definitely get more than that, and even if he doesnt, the Spurs would match that offer at any point. Jackson is interesting, I just don't think he plays smart. When he was with San Antoinio he made a lot of mistakes, but luckily for him, he had Tim Duncan to make up for him. Now in Atlanta, where everything is screwed up, he just does whatever he wants and it works, but in a strict offense like the Nets, I question if he can really contribute. I want the Ray Allen trade to work, but I don't see it happening. The Sonics have been offered Shareef for Allen and that seems more sensible than Kittles and Atrain. Realistically, I think our best bet is to try to get a shooter in the draft Luke Jackson (if he falls that low) or maybe even Darius Rice in the 2nd round. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting throwback:</div><div class="quote_post">i don't know if rod would take him back. im sure everyone would like to have him back, but if we are trying to move foward we can't look back. plus, if he comes back he would be the backup and what would the chemestry be like? i know kerry is a professional but what if the new sg comes in and has a sub-par season for that players standards and kk comes back? would kidd/rj/kmart and whoever else is still around who played with kk feel he should be the starter again and would there be chemestry issues? if you've been with one team for your whole career, then get traded and come back to the team you've been successful with and your spot has been filled, i would feel uncomfortable being there. your going to have that feeling that, 'hey, that should be me starting there or playing during these minutes' even if you wont say it. plus if kk came back, that would also put more pressure on coach frank. he likes kerry and would need to decide whether to put kk in or the new guy. if you make a commitment to the guy u traded for, you cant replace him with the guy u gave up to get him. that won't fly well with the guy who took over for kerry. we all love kerry, but it is business and we need a change. everything cant last forever, just like our playoff run. time to move into the future.</div> I see your points, but I don't agree about the whole looking back situation. Look at what happened with Sean Elliot. He was a great player with San Antonio, then had a sub-par performance in Detroit so he went back to San Anotino where he became great again. Towards the end of the career he took more of a backseat role and I think Kerry can do the same. I'm pretty sure that when he comes back and we had found a replacement, whether it be RJ or Ray Allen, he wouldn't try to go for the starting position. As a sixth man, Kerry can be instrumental as defense and points off the bench. Why not sign a player that is experienced with the system, has good chemistry with the other players, and can add depth to the team? Besides, if Ray Allen was the starting shooting gaurd, I doubt there's much kerry can do to usurp that starting spot from him. Also, Ray Allen's contract comes off at the end of next season. If Ray doesn't resign with the Nets, we might as well take back Kerry if the Nets can't get better.
I would rather see Ray Allen come tothe team not because he is a superstar. But because he can elevate our half court game to another level where he can open up the defense and create a shot for himself or somebody else. And he is pretty quick not like KK and doesn't bring great defense makes up for it with an awesome jump shot. How would we be able to keep that payroll going? Kittles does have Sixth man of the year potential but for ten mill a year ye should be starting. Qrich would be nice but if we do decide to keep kittle barry would be nice to have at that same time a one two combo
What do you cats know about this H.S swingman Dorell Wright, I havent heard much about him but it seems like the Nets might be interested in drafting him. They say he is a great scorer off the dribble going toward the basket. He seems to have decent size at 6-7. But does anybody else have anymore info about him?
I'm not so sure that the Nets would want a HSer because they need help and fast. Wright is still considered very raw but the scary thing is, he's already contributing in both the offensive and defensive end. He has HS career averages of a double-double and a lil over 4bpg and close to 3spg. I'm not so sure about his competition but those seem like averages of a developed player. But maybe his competition is not that great that's why he's considered very raw. If he's to make a splash in the NBA, he'll be needing more than his quick first step. But then again, he has the ability to create his own shots that drew comparison to TMac. But did he even declare for this year's draft? I don't know about that but I don't think he did. I think he's going to DePaul.
I heard that Boston might have promised him to draft him, which is why he didn't go to the Chicago Draft Camp.
As much as I'd like for K-Mart to get max contract because of how much he does for us. For the team's sake and use, I'd say no. As a person and a fan, yes. However, 'Zo's coming back real soon right? We need a legitimate and powerful C if we're ever gonna contend. Kidd needs a guy who can play like K-Mart or Brand but someone who actually plays C. I especially like the sound of increasing our offense, someone a lot reliable than Kittles to be gained. Someone consistent and more versatile, preferably someone with D although Allen interests me even if he doesn't have any, he has the effort for it. Though to get him and say, Barry, we'd probably have to rid ourselves of K-Mart so bad idea.

Although still very raw Dorell has that raw athletic ability that makes coaches go wild. His super quick first step allows him to blaze by almost any defender with almost no effort. Dorell has a nice looking shot that is effective from anywhere on the floor. His quick feet and long arms give him the ability to be a very solid defender and rebounder. Dorell also has underrated passing and ball handling skills. With the right work ethic and coaching, Dorell could turn out to be one of the best players in his class. Weaknesses: Dorell is still very raw. His jump shot is developing and his understanding of the game is coming along nicely. By simply watching game tapes from his junior and senior year one can easily see the dramatic improvement in his game?Dorell will have to learn to position his body for rebounds and defense. Till now he has been able to use his otherworldly physical gifts to get by. He also needs to work on cutting down on turnovers and getting back on defense. that profile is from NBAdraft.net if we were maybe rebuilding i wouldn't mind taking a hs-er,but hs-ers take like 4yrs to become effective for a team. we can't wait 4yrs for one player to come around. if we want to draft him as a backup or a 3rd string guy for the future b/c we believe he has that much talent, then im all for it. but i dont want to see a hs-er be our starting sg. but i think what is going through the minds of the nets front office goes back to 1996 draft. we wanted kobe, nash said we were goina take kobe and then we got scared by his agent b/c he said kobe would only play in la(we ended up picking kerry kittles that yr). we all know how kobe turned out, so i dont think the nets want to go through that again. eventhough that was a #8 pick and this is a #22, they will be careful when a hs-er comes into play.
It looks like Dorell would declare for the draft. He said that he'll withdraw his name from the draft and join DePaul if he won't get in the round 1. But the Jazz camp was impressed in his workout and said that he might go in the 1st round.
