In the official list of every unprotected player in the league in the upcoming Charlotte Bobcats expansion draft which can be viewed by clicking HERE, the Boston Celtics players which have been left unprotected are Chucky Atkins, Ernest Brown*, Brandon Hunter, Jumaine Jones, and Michael Stewart. Players with an asterisk (*) after their name means they are a restricted free agent and if the Bobcats choose them in the draft they automatically becoming an unrestricted free agent and their contract does not count against the Bobcats salary cap. Discuss!
I was more than a little disappointed to see Hunter on this list and not McCarty, but theres a rumor out there that keeping Waltah from Charlotte was purposeful, as he's rumored to be part of a draft deal.
I think Brandon Hunter is gone, I liked what I saw of him this year, and he won't be bad for Charlotte, any ideas on the proposed deal?
This is a letdown. I thought after last season's success in limited minutes Hunter would be here to stay, but I think he's gone. But as hagrid said, if McCarty's in some kind of deal then it's worth it.
Aw man! I sorta wished Hunter would be in a Celtics uniform. He's a certainty to be gone now since his contract is small and he could thrive in a guard offense.
I do not understand why the Celtics continue to give McCarty all the chances in the world. Last year they resigned him this year they protect him, why? He's an alright player but, he's not part of the team's future. McCarty is a nice role player who can hit shots from the corner, but he's been overused and he is no longer the fan favorite he used to be. We also have an angry PG who carried the team to the playoffs last season. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"If they aren't going to protect me," he said yesterday, "then I don't want to be there. Why would I want to be somewhere where they didn't want me? If you're going to leave me unprotected, that's a slap in the face to me. I could have stayed in Detroit." "Of all the guys on our team last year, who contributed? Do you think I was one of the top eight guys who contributed? I'm very upset about this. I thought that [with] the way they let me play, that was where I wanted to be and that's where I would be," Atkins said.</div> I feel bad for Atkins, he carried the team on his back, so he could be left unprotected? Also he could be on the Pistons right now fighting for a championship.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting hagrid:</div><div class="quote_post">I was more than a little disappointed to see Hunter on this list and not McCarty, but theres a rumor out there that keeping Waltah from Charlotte was purposeful, as he's rumored to be part of a draft deal.</div> Hagrid, what rumors you hearing? I am on the west coast and the Celtics dont exist out here. I have read throughout these postings that Seattle and Orlando could be on the verge of big deals. I would think Seattle involving Ray Allen who will be a FA and Orlando apparently is garnering interest for Grant Hill. Teams I guess are willing to take a chance that if he retires, that will leave huge cap space ala Terrell Brandon to make a FA splash. Sounds like something Danny would be thinking about. Wally rumor I heard as well. I am thinking that quite possibly Charlotte could take a player in the expansion draft and ship him to us. Who though??
I dont think they should've left Jumaine Jones unprotected this guy will be a good player if not an important role player on any team. Brandon Hunter was a sleeper and he should be taken by the bobcats because he will be an instant impact player for them. Celtics should've protected Hunter.
Here's the rumor <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Could we see another draft night deal between Danny Ainge and Jerry West? The latest trade being discussed on Memphis radio sends Stromile Swift to Boston for the rights to Sebastian Telfair, Yogi Stewart (and his expiring salary that matches Sto's), and cash ($1M?). </div> It's at http://celticsrant.blogspot.com/
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hagrid,what rumors you hearing? I am on the west coast and the Celtics dont exist out here.</div> Sorry to hear about the last part. Rumors are everywhere and pretty much impossible to keep up with right now. I've heard rumblings that Walter will be part of a post-expansion draft trade involving someone the Cat's may pick up in the E. draft. I don't know anymore details other than that. Supposedly this is the reason the Waltah was protected, not just because Doc likes him. However, if I get anything more solid between now and then, you can be sure I'll share it with everyone.
I've been to a few Charlotte boards and don't see much intrest in either Atkins or Hunter. There was some interest early on in Walter.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting GWVan:</div><div class="quote_post">I've been to a few Charlotte boards and don't see much intrest in either Atkins or Hunter. I never thought Atkins was a possibility to be taken, but he was furious when the Celtics left him unprotected, I think he may demand a trade.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BC:</div><div class="quote_post"> he was furious when the Celtics left him unprotected, e.</div> I think that was overhyped, and I read later that Danny or Doc or both gave him a call and smoothed things over - I'm suspecting there is something going on tradewise with Charlotte that takes atkins out of the mix
Danny does need to manage his players expectations better - gotta make that phone call BEFORE it becomes public that he's unprotected - guess he was too busy telling Chad Ford and the rest of the world who he was going to draft
