<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Bruce Bowen has declined his contract option for next season, making him an unrestricted free agent while also giving the Spurs added financial flexibility to shape their roster this summer.

The 6-foot-7 guard-forward would have made $4 million in the final season of a three-year, $11.5 million contract he signed in July 2002. Not exercising the option allows him to reassess his market value ? and perhaps seek a new multiyear contract ? following a season in which he was named to the NBA's All-Defensive first team for the first time in his eight-year career.

Though Bowen, who turns 33 on Monday, may ultimately re-sign with the Spurs, his decision is expected to increase the team's salary-cap room to close to $15 million after the league releases its cap figure next month.

I don't like this....he's one of the key and main reasons we win. His defense is rarely matched and once his 3 point range becomes better, he'll be even more valuable. He is partly what makes the Spurs. Plus it would ruin positioning and who our starters would be, it was supposed to be him and TD at forward with SJax and Parker at guard with Rasho at C. It's proven to work. Could you imagine what a team would be like having him, Artest or Big Ben, even having any of the two of them would be a devastating defensive combo.

I think that he won't leave for another team as he only wants more money. If Jackson returns (which is almost sure he will) +other offseason moves,I see Spurs being one of the biggest threats to win the championship.

Well I really hope Bowen returns, he such a good player defender. If they bring back Stephen Jackson, then they'll be really stacked with SF's and SG's.

    - Hedo Turkoglu
    - Stephen Jackson
    - Bruce Bowen
    - Manu Ginobili
    - Devin Brown

Dont worry about this guys...hes just pulling a Tim Duncan.Just like Tim last year , Bowen is opting out just to get a long-term deal , he has no plan of leaving SA.

3yr deal worth 6 million is what Ive heard he will get.
