I say both and mean both. Why do you ask? GP is an awesome playmaker and great player, he always performs well under pressure, it's just it's PJax's fault for being unfair and playing favorites. GP is a playmaker, that means having to involve everyone else, not just Triangle Offense for Shaq. Also I say we need to find a replacement for Malone, Kobe and GP, seems they'll be leaving us....
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SupraJames:</div><div class="quote_post">Rebuild. I don't see any way that Kobe, Phil, Malone and Payton coming back to play in LA together next year with Phil. 0% chance. However, some of the Lakers from this year might stick around a little bit and then the Lakers will have to go on rebuild mode. Kobe - I have no idea where he will be. Maybe a Lakers, maybe a Clippers (I really hope he doesn't go there and contaminate my fav team), Orlando, Grizzlies, LA County Jail, wherever. But he's had disagreements with Shaq and Phil so if those two stay, I don't think Kobe's gonna stay. Shaq - He should go. His huge contract is a big reason as to why the Lakers can't get any decent bench players and plus he's aging, his domination is decreasing and in less than 5 years he'll just be an average center. Malone - He's done. I don't think his knee can hold him up any longer. He might stay next year, but he won't do much and eventually retire before next season is done. Gary - If Phil stays, GP's gone. Easy as that. Phil - He's been exposed as the not-next-Red coach and clearly the inferior coach to Larry Brown. I don't expect him to come back either. My prediction #1 of the next year's Lakers lineup: Kobe, Gary, Devean, new center and a new PF. I predict the Lakers make a blockbuster Shaq trade getting a star PF and at least a decent C back. Phil Jackson is gone. Malone may or may not be there but even if he is, he won't stay for long. His knees will force him to sit out. My prediction #2: Shaq, Devean, trades Kobe for a star guard, decent new PF and Fisher at PG. Phil Jackson stays as coach. Same deal as above for Karl.</div> supra, first off, phil already said that he was 99% to retireee. Kobe wants to go free agent, you cant trade a free agent. Shaqs contract is not up for negotiation, he'll be in LA for a while. As for the rest of them... who cares. The team will be completely different without Phil and Kobe. who knows what'll happen from there. Shaq for a pf and a center? why would you trade the best player in the league for anything? you just want the clippers to have a shot at the pacific title. about the whole Phil Jackson/Larry Brown comment. Phil has 9 rings. Larry has what, one now? Larry Brown is never up for coach of the year, Popovich, Jackson, Hubie Brown, etc. they're great coaches. You got your Browns mixed up. your prediction is retarded. Kobe already said he's leaving. and Shaq will never be just an "average center" dood, i just noticed that you said that kobe might go to the clippers. you smoke too much mang.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SupraJames:</div><div class="quote_post">^There will be always another team like this. Houston had it's own team full of superstars just like the Lakers this year. What do you mean I want the Clippers to have a shot at the pacific title? Did you not read that I actually don't want Kobe to go to the Clippers? Amount of rings does not always indicate your actual coaching ability. Sure Phil's a good coach, I'm not denying that, but I just think Larry Brown is a better coach than him in terms of how much he has done (NCAA and NBA title, nobody has ever done that ever) and how easy Phil has it versus Larry. I mean think about it, Larry Brown coached the Pistons so well that he basically SWEPT the Lakers 5-0. Ok my prediction is retarded, let's hear yours. Kobe might not have a big chance going to the Clippers but it's still a chance. Kobe has said he wants to stay in LA. He has his wife and house here, etc etc so why rule the Clippers out? http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/n...eadlines-sports Let's keep it basketball and not start stupid stuff like calling me a ricer or telling me to go back to Irvine like you did last time.
First of all they should make sure they keep there current peaces in tact meaning re-signing kobe and giving shaq a extension like he wants then also making sure fisher stays with the team he is one of there unsung heros then they should try to aquire quality role players such as some of there former players tyrone lue and those guys but mostly tring to sign young players under 30 there team is way to old right now
I think they need to get Kobe back first and foremost. Then see what in all they can get in the draft. The thing they need to do, and it may not be a popular opinion here with some people, GET RID OF PAYTON!!! He did the team no good in the playoffs and a lot of the season. He kept opening his mouth and when that happened, nothing good came out. He didn't even show up in the Finals for the most part. Get rid of him and either give Fisher the starting point guard job or find someone in the free agents. Then try to find a good power forward cause I think that Karl will likely retire, and, currently, no power forward on that depth chart is worth a starting job. But, yea, beyond all this, Kobe is the main thing they need to worry about.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting ubermensch5150:</div><div class="quote_post"> dood, i just noticed that you said that kobe might go to the clippers. you smoke too much mang.</div> The Clippers are one of the teams Kobe is willing to sign with, so it's not absurd at all...I would venture to say that the favorites to sign Kobe are the Lakers, the Clippers, and the Suns.....
RELOAD. There is many stars out there that will absolutly DROOL to be a Laker. LA needs to stay away from the overaged hungry vets and look for more of an all around type of players. Guys like Bruce Bowen, guys like TMAC, guys like Vin Baker, or even a Stephon Jackson type of guy will help make that title run again. Point blank is this: LA will always be a favored team to make it to the finals, it is basically turned into a tradition. So despite if Phil leaves, I guarentee a top notch head coach will fill in (Mike Fratello maybe?) and continue the LA legacy of champions.
First, I gotta start off by saying I am in no way a Laker fan. More than anything, I'm a Kobe-lovin'-Laker-hater. But every real or fake Laker fan (not that there's much of a difference) has to admit that the ownership did a horrible job in putting this team together. I will admit that no one would have expected that Karl Malone and especially Gary Payton would become so old so fast. So that cannot be put on management. The fact is, that bench is horrendous. You waste money on guys like Horace Grant and Byron or Bryon Russell (I've never been sure of which one) to go along with guys like Kareem Rush, Luke Walton and Brian Cook who have absolutely no experience. There is no way those additions with an injured and old Rick Fox, brushed aside Derek Fisher, and never seen a shot that he didnt like Slavo Medvedenko could give the starting lineup much needed help. If Tracy McGrady is serious about joining LA, then several changes must be made. 1. Package Rick Fox, Gary Payton and either Cook or Walton in a trade with Orlando for T-Mac and Reese Gaines. This will give the Magic the opportunity to write off all these salaries after next season and start their rebuilding process. 2. Find a coach who the players respect. First that come to mind are Rudy T or Pat Riley (if you can pry him away from the Heat). Rudy won 2 championships with arguably the best big man of that time. Pat Riley speaks for himself. 3. Sign and trade Kobe. If T-Mac is in town, Kobe doesn't need to be. Try and get a deal with whichever team he wants to go to for a swingman or power forward. 4. Free agency, and this is key. GET YOUNGER PLAYERS WHO WANT TO WIN IT ALL! There are a plethora of role players available. GO FIND THOSE WHO WILL FIT IN NICELY WITH SHAQ AND MAC.
if the term 'reload' means to retool the team around Shaq AND Kobe then the team has no choice other than to rebuild...reloading is not an option...lakers have no salary cap room to do anything whatsoever...especially now that malone has opted out and would demand prolly almost the full mid-level E to return...that still leaves the Lakers with PG problems and reserve problems...this team needs to be rebuilt and the rebuild should focus around kobe and should start with the removal of Shaq and his huge fat handcuffing contract from the laker books...

He took Jordan's team and took them there, he took the lakers and did the same. did they have rings before jackson? second off, kobe wont have a wife too much longer. she's already talking to divorce attorneys. third off, you said earlier that they would release shaq, not trade him. They cant release Shaq he still has a couple years left. fourth, about the whole pacific title, if kobe and shaq are both out of LA then the clippers MIGHT have a shot at getting to the playoffs. fifth and final, stop mentioning your damn car. go to the trd page talk about it there. i've always talked basketball but i couldn't seem to get through to you without insulting you. too bad that didnt work either. stick to something you know about like your sig says
the whole point of the nba is to make money though. dont forget that when you make your predictions. kobe and shaq are worth double their contracts in sales and merchandise. thats the bottom line.

hey uber...or wutever your name is...i can ass you out in any basketball conversation anytime on any topic you choose and suprajames is my best friend so leave him be...i know what he meant by some of the stuff he said and he might not have put his point across well but no personal attacks are necessary, just ask him to clarify and he will...even when i said ubermoron i prolly shouldnt have but im too lazy to scroll up and see what your name really was...thats all...bye
What are you his cheerleader? Anyhow, there has been some good points made here on the salary situation. The thing is, do you think LA will find another dependable big man to fill in Shaq's shoes?
haha um something like that...hes just my best friend man...come on now...you like it when people trash on your best friend? didn't think so...but anyhow...i really dunno what will happen with the big man situation, hardly any big men are really as dependable as Oneal...that wasn't my concern...if people think i'm saying that we're gonna find a better big guy than Oneal then they are misinterpreting what I write...what i'm saying is that having a big man like Oneal is not worth crippling the rest of the squad to the point where decent role players can't be found...that is all but there are a couple interesting trade options where I think the lakers could wind up with a solid front-court rotation to put around kobe...we'll see how it goes though...just my opinions you know...im not kupchak, i dont know what the hell is gonna happen...shoot im fairly certain kupchak doesnt know whats gonna happen either...all i'm sayin is that in MY opinion...if the Lakers want to win another championship anytime soon, they need to deal Oneal now and rebuild the team around Kobe but it shouldnt have to be a slow rebuilding process like in my cases... and uberguy (they told me no personal attacks)...he hasnt mentioned his car once on this thread so um you must be smokin some good stuff out in riverside (can i have some?)... and sj...who in the hell calls you starbury? thats like someone running around callin themself TJ all day long...i wonder what kinda idiot would do that...hmmm
