The Detroit Pistons are a defense team, everything they do comes from defense, and Ben Wallace is the center of that. He did a pretty good job with Shaq. Ben improved his scoring and rebounding. He brought them put-backs to energize the team. Also, I'm not trying to take any credit away from Billups, he did a really good job. Its just defense is the Pistons and thats how they won it. I don't know if they could give all five starters to share MVP, each of them had a game where they led, but I don't know if they will do that so I think the MVP should of been Ben.
He has improved his scoring, but in this game the person who scores the most generally gets more notice, especially with a team that doesn't score much. Chauncy Billups led the pistons to the title because of his scoring which is why he deserves it.
All you siad about Ben is true, and hes an excellent player, but the fact is Chauncey did all of that and led scoring. Chauncey deserved MVP, but Rip,Ben,Prince and the rest of the Pistons all played at MVP-quality play, Chauncey just shined the brightest.
As my Father had said, there are so many legitimate candidates. I'm feeling real bad, he's done so much for this team and his on his way to becoming a huge superstar. He has always been the Pistons MVP in my eyes, he tries so hard and plays so well, he's the absolute definition of a workhorse. His defense is simply amazing, but you have to give it to Billups or Hamilton as well, they're great scorers, good guards with very consistent good stats, amongst other things. I always knew and felt Billups was very impacting anyways, he's grown to become such a force in terms of his overall game. Let's let him have his moment of glory, Big Ben will probably get his again soon enough. I think he'll win DPY next year for sure.
I think Chauncey deserved the MVP. He hit all the clutch shots. Every time they needed to stop a run of some type, Chauney hit the shot. Though Ben was great on defense, Chauncey was great on both ends. He neve allowed the Laker point guards to do much offensively and he was fantastic on the offensive end himself. He deserved it.
I understand that the Pistons, and the championship, is about defense, and no doubt did Ben play unbelieveable defense. I think it could be a toss up between Ben and Chauncey, both had amazing series. Ben really broke out in the final game with his scoring, but Chauncey was consistent with scoring this whole series. He was clutch. Not taking anything away from Ben from the series he had, it's just my opinion, Billups deserved it and he got it.
I think about it now, just moments after my post, but, each were clutch in their own way. Chauncey hit the clutch shots and Ben got the key block or rebound. In my thoughts, you take either away, they don't win. But, I still think it's Chauncey because, though the Pistons are a defensive team, the team that scores more still wins. Chauncey led the team in scoring and was also good on the defensive end as I said earlier. So, therefore, the fact that Chauncey was good on both ends all series, I still think he was a deserving MVP.
Grr, it's 'should have', damn it. I don't think there was anything wrong with Chauncey Billups winning MVP, tbh.
Unfortunately, since Ben had to battle Shaq all series, his numbers were down. I thought the final pose was fitting: Chauncey holding up the MVP trophy, while Ben was holding up the Championship trophy.
Ben Wallace should have been MVP. Without him, the D wouldn't have been as good as it was and Shaq would have run all over Sheed. The Pistons would have also lost the huge boards advantage that they had. Granted his numbers were down playing against Shaq, but that was to be expected. Ben should have bene MVP.
I think they made a good decision with going with Billups, he was key in this series, he has hurt the Lakers all year...and he did it again, my second candidate woulda been Rip, then Ben.
They all played great, they could've picked anyone to be MVP. It was a great team effort, but like Kobe 8 Ball said, Billups did deserve it because he did hurt us all year.
Both Billups, and Wallace played hard and did well,so either way the MVP Award goes in good hands, but i'd prefer wallace to get the nod, just cause i think he played with more passion myself, but at least Detroit beat The Lakers,so that counts for something
Well first let me say if there was ever a year were a whole team deserved to win the mvp it would have been this year. But as much as billups deserved it I think that a team that was built and won the championship because of there defense should have had a defensive player as mvp. Although I am very pleased that billups got it he deserved it after all he has been through.
Billups made almost all of his F/T's which was a significant impact. Other than that they both contributed about equally within their own purview. The freethrows pushed billups over the edge to grab the MPV, in my opinion.
billups ran the teams offense as brown wanted it ran. He dished out the dimes, scored, played d, and kept his team going with his intensity. I believe the reward was rightfully givebn to billups and i also believe he really deserved it. big ben did a very great job and the whole team played well. But i just believe billups all around game and composure at the hardest position in the L; earned him the mvp during that series.
Well the MVP was voted on by those people with the cell phones or whatever, so more fans chose Billups over Wallace and it was the right choice.
