Phil Jackson: "My chances of returning next year are VERY SLIM" Last night in the post game press conference after the loss, Phil Jackson was asked about his future with the Lakers and he said in plain words "my chances of returning next year are <u>very slim</u>." It's pretty safe to say Phil Jackson is done, and i'm glad he didn't break Red Auerbach's record, he didn't deserve it.
Yea, I don't expect Phil to be back next year. If he is, I will be very surprised. I think it would have been nice to see him break Red's record, but, that's just me. I thought he deserved it, even though he has always been blessed with great talent on his teams. But, assuming he doesn't come back, I wonder who his successor in Los Angeles will be.
i hate to see him go out 9-1, but it looks like thats whats gonna happen, he will be missed my laker fans
Ill always love you, phil. You meant and will mean everything to me. No joke, without him we wouldnt have won ANY championship guys!
I agree. He is the biggest reason for the 3 rings the Lakers got over the last 5 years. He took a team with the talent to win it all, and actually did it with them. They had the same team the year before he came in the 50 game season and they got swept in the 2nd round against the Spurs that year. I totally agree that if it wasn't for Phil this team would never have won a title during the last 5 years, nonetheless 3. It was great having Phil here, and though it would be nice seeing him come back for another couple years, I don't believe it will happen.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Accord:</div><div class="quote_post"> It's pretty safe to say Phil Jackson is done, and i'm glad he didn't break Red Auerbach's record, he didn't deserve it.</div> Why not? Sure he was sort of lucky since he had such skill and superstars at his disposal to depend upon, but he works hard, sure he's not the best but he was good and decent when it came to the rawness of coaching and the game. I never really liked him and considered him lucky. However I felt the same way for Popovich, coaches always play a part in the ways and reasons for the wins and losses of the game no matter what, after all they're in charge of analysis, plays and who's on the bench and who's out on the floor. PJax did pretty well in that department, so I wish him luck and all the best, it's been a fun ride.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Magic Johnson:</div><div class="quote_post">Why not?</div> Red Auerbach did far more than just win championships, he revolutioned the NBA and the way the game is played. He constructed a team from absolutely nothing and turned it into the greatest dynasty in all of professional sports. Phil Jackson inherited Shaq when he was in his prime and he inherited the best all around and most clutch player in the league, Kobe Bryant. There is no doubt in anyones mind that Red Auerbach is the greatest coach the world has ever seen. Phil Jackson was absolutely dominated in the Finals and quit because he knew that if the Lakers lost, especially this badly, the franchise was done and would be in a reconstructing mode for the next few years and lucky to even make it out of the first round.
Well I agree he did less then Auerbach in sense of making the game different and he always had the best team there was and yeah, he took them to the title, I think he won't be back to Lalers but it still remains a big question where will he go from here and who will succeed him in Lakers?? P.S. He can still brake Auerbach's record ( of course he'll need some 200mil.extra but he can do it)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dajahit21:</div><div class="quote_post">He can still brake Auerbach's record ( of course he'll need some 200mil.extra but he can do it)</div> Yeah cause he does it all for money?! He wants something for the team and for him, not for money, not now that he has so much of it. I dont seriously think he can win another one with another team but lakers. The real good teams dont need new coaches right now. But i wish him good luck for the rest of his career and DONT "give up"!!
He says his chances of returning as the Laker's head coach is very slim, and he doesn't provide any reasons why. Is it because he thinks the dynasty will be finished, or is it because he thinks he won't win a championship next year, or does he want to prove to everyone, especially Auerbach, that he can develop players and make a crap team an elite team, or does he want to show that the Lakers can't win jack without him?
