It has been stated many times that the LA Owner and GM (both), said that if it came down to it, they'd choose Kobe over Shaq... and right now, it's looking like it's coming to that decision.

Right now, Shaq has a few years on his contract and 1 year b/f he can attempt to opt-out, meaning that he would have to be traded. That means that only a few teams could live up to LA's hefty expectations if they trade Shaq. Luckily, Indiana's one of those teams.

With Indiana's amazing bench, you could see a hefty trade go down for Shaq
and have one of the best front courts in NBA history. If we could keep Artest and trade Jonathan Bender, Al Harrington, Freddie Jones, and maybe a draft pick for Shaq, you're looking at this:

    C: Shaquile O'Neil
    PF: Jermaine O'Neil
    SF: Ron Artest

That would be the greatest front court in NBA history, in my opinion. And even though this trade is unlikely... it is a possibility. Plus... LA's options are not that great. Most teams that want him, can't afford him and most teams that can afford him, don't want him. Indiana is one of those teams that could use a big man to solidify our already pretty good front court.

While it looks like a great idea to bring Shaq or Kobe to the Pacers, it is highly unlikely that they will come to Indiana. The Pacers will have to do more than offer Harrington, Bender, Jones and a pick for Shaq or Kobe. They will have to part with either Artest or JO. In a trade scenario like this Artest is likely the person on the move. But there is no way that trade will go down without one of its big stars being offered.

Yep, that's true... (I wish it wasn't, but it's true...) But you DO admit that, the 2 O'Neil's would basically dominate the front court... (and maybe Harrington if we could keep him)

BTW, Walsh said he's, under no circumbstances, trading JO

Your team would probably be overloaded in the Strength department had you not have to give Artest up in this deal. J'O, Shaq and Artest, think about it? Geez....

I'd rather have Kobe, we have good C's in Foster and Pollard. Plus J'O's mostly our go to guy. I say you invest the money in a better PG instead, particularly a shooter to compensate for Artest's or Miller's off nights.
