Karl Malone saying he is going free agent means he wants to play for the Lakers only if his legs are 100%. He knows that the Lakers are still the one of best teams in the NBA. I still say if Malone wasn't injured in the Finals, the Lakers would be Champions. When he was healthy he made a big difference in the Laker offense and defense. I hope he will be able to play for us next season. Even though he is 41, he is still a very good player and team leader. He helped keep the Lakers together and focused. If he returns, I hope that he can talk Shaq and Kobe to stay and help us reclaim supremcy in the NBA. Detroit are the champions and I acknowledge their defense, spirit and unselfishness. They will be a force for years to come as long as Larry Brown is coach. Lets hope the Lakers will make the right decisions for the team and not just for themselves individually. We will survive and be stronger because of this season. GO LAKERS

The Lakers had problems with Tony Parker, so Billups would've still put in work. The only thing that would've changed is that the Pistons would'nt have sat in Shaq's lap during the post feed because Malone can hit the jumper.
Malone still hasn't given up on his dreams of winning a championship? It would be funny if he joins the Pistons who didn't make any adjustments in the offseason, and yet they don't win the championship.
I think the best thing to do is sign or aquire a younger free agent to start, and have Malone come off the bench. The depth at the PF spot is very week in LA and mabye a player like Stromile Swift, Keon Clark or Chris Anderson could fill in for Karl's bad knee.
