No coach can replace him. He just needs to stay. I strongly believe he is the one that brought the Lakers the championship, and I don't believe he rode on Shaq's cottontail. The Lakers won't see a championship in years if he departs.

Therefore I think the Lakers should pursue a coach with that's been though it all. From the head scratching games to arm raising games. And the first coach that comes to mind is Pat Riley.
I read on NBA.com they said that kurt rambis the assistant coach in consideration and a Higher consideration is which i like is Rudy T the old coach of the rockets. I like what he did with Houston. Bring Back Magic Johnson or Kareem. To bad Byron Scott is already taken. To bad pat riley still has a contract with maimi and he's not going to break that cause he will have something like ownership of the heat
Yeah I heard about Pat Riley being a possible candidate as well. If Phil leaves and Pat replaces him, hopefully things falls into place. Kobe and Shaq stays and for once in their careers, get along for an entire seasom
Pat Riley would probrobly be the best choice they have. He's won championships, taken many teams to the playoffs, and is one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. It'll be nice to see him coach for the Lakers again.
A name I've heard floating around....Michael Cooper...he might be too nice to be a head coach in the NBA, but I wouldn't mind giving him a shot. He was a Laker assistant for many years...

Any former Lakers would be good, they know how it works since the teams have always been similiar to one another. PJax will be very difficult to replace, he has the attitude and strength a lot of coaches lack in trying to jumpstart his players emotions. If you want a nice guy coach who can fire them up, if he wasn't going to become the Celtics coach, Doc Rivers. Is there any way you could get other team GM's to become a coach? I'd love it if Jerry West became part of the staff again, not happening though, he's found a home with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Well.......if Rudy T or Riley or any other coach who's been there and done that a lot ( and don't you dear tell me Dell Harris) don't come to Lakers I think the best chence they've got is to hire one of Phill's assistants and keep praying hard...or get a punk ass coach out of nowhere....
When yesterday I new that phil officially retired the first name that came to my mind was pat riley. He lead the lakers during the showtime era and buss says thats the type of offense he wants the team to run again so he would definitly be considered and kobe wouldnt probable mind because then he would get the ball alot. A reason he might not be selected is because the lakers as of now are kobe's teamm to control he is basically the prime motive for everything they do from this point on and pat is a old shool coach. He would be hard on kobe and the team his practices are said to be the hardest of any coach in the league.

Personally, I believe Phil Jackson will be back to coach again for another year or two. He just needs some time off and get his mind straight.
He's going to come back with a whole new offense that is going to revive the lakers once again just watch. especially if he is taking that gm spot which means he is going to get the players that he needs and then he is going to make that comeback
I would think Rudy T is the most likely replacement. I think he would be a great coach for the Lakers and it would work out pretty good. Someone else that I would definitely consider would be Mike Fratello. He was a pretty good coach and the man definitely knows the game. Either of those would be great replacements.
