Phil Jackson "Bye, Bye!" <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Lakers are crafting an offseason agenda aimed at retaining Kobe Bryant's services at all costs, and it appears the first step will be the release of coach Phil Jackson, sources close to the team told the Daily News. Jackson and owner Jerry Buss are scheduled to meet tonight over dinner, and it is expected that Buss will inform Jackson he is not welcome back for a sixth season, sources said. The five-year, $30 million contract Jackson signed in 1999 is set to expire June 30. According to those familiar with the situation, the issue is not financial or philosophical, but practical. Simply, Bryant and Jackson are mutually weary of one another, and the franchise cannot risk alienating its 25-year-old superstar, who is expected to be a free agent soon. Bryant has spoken respectfully of Jackson as a coach but said in February that he disliked him personally. The two clashed in private several times this season, sources said, and Bryant was furious after Jackson, in a January interview with the Daily News, said O'Neal should be the focal point of the team. It will begin with the breakup of the league's most successful triumverate, and possibly, the departure of the league's most dominant big man. While Bryant will be pleased with the change on the bench, O'Neal is likely to be furious. O'Neal appreciated Jackson's willingness to openly criticize Bryant and his attempts to rein in his impetuous young co-star.</div> More: click here for more!
Me either. He had great times, but now I think he has to move on to another team, so he can win more championships .
A team I think phil would go to if he doesnt retire and the lakers dont want him back is the knicks there setting up to have a huge off season possible getting sheed on the team. Also aiming to get crawford on the team it will be a very athletic team with alot of potential.
As long as we keep Kobe! I really think they have moved their focus to Kobe and I know they will do whatever they can to keep him in LA...

Heck no, he did great, sure he had amazing rosters, but coaches are always a part of success, he was no different. Not better than Red, but he came close, the Lakers will miss him, amongst the other NBA dynasties he was a part of, hopefully he'll live well whereever he goes.

Kobe and Shaq were together a couple of years before jackson came to the lakers team. Yet they never won a title even when they had players like van axel and eddie jones. Phil got everyone to fit into the whole team concept and form a dynasty.
Well I think this will be a good move for the Lakers. If they were to choose a new coach for next year. Not only for Kobe but for the Lakers team. I believe the Triangle might be a bit overused and I also believe the Lakers team needs some new plays to throw at opposing teams that are expecting the Lakers to do their repetetive triangle offense that takes so much clock. People have seen Kobe play on the basketball court with all the distractions that he has going on in his life at the moment; and we all know about all the potential this guy has. With this new coaching move, I think Kobe can now be more relaxed on the Lakers team; and also i think a new coach will be a bit more lienant on Kobe as maybe Phil was not. Which will in return allow Bryant to play the game as he sees fit during diffrent times of the game while he's on the floor.
You guys all saw how good the Lakers did with the Pick&Roll in the early stages of the playoffs... Hopefully the new coach will implement a bit of that, some motion, some Ice every now and then, etc.
The Lakers have contacted Henry Bibby about a "possible" head coaching vacancy and are going to contact Rudy Tomjanovic in the upcoming days according to David Aldridge.

I think if a new coach comes and payton stays the best way for the lakers to play would be to run the break more. Espcially because the lakers have said they might trade shaq without shaq the lakers would be much quicker getting up and downt he court. If they can put together a bit of athletisim they could really make a new exciting up and down team sort of what jason kidd and the nets do running the break alot. Also they should work on doing some more cuts to the basket. In the finals series they basically settled for jumpers everyone, but shaq and if shaq isnt on the team there would be so much room inside and they would be able to have a whole new offensive play book.
Well, Rickey Paulding, according ot the mock draft, is supposed to be drafted in the second round... Here's more info: <font face="arial"> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> <font face="System"><font size="1">NBA Comparison: Ricky Davis (minus the headaches) Strengths: A super athlete who flys on the wing for thunderous dunks. A supremely gifted athlete, Ricky can really get off the ground and knows how to finish in traffic. His athletic body makes him a good defender when he wants to be. He has a good handle and is great at rolling off picks?very good at moving with out the ball. Ricky is also an excellent rebounder for his position. Weaknesses: Shooting needs to improve for him to be more effective. Not the greatest passer...Tends to score and bunches. When he?s on, he's on. When he?s off, he?s really off. Creating his own shot is a another area that could use improvement...Defensively he?s been known to take plays off Overall a super athlete, who will only get better?. Should become a solid NBA'er. </div></font> </font> </font> More on Rickey
