<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">That had nothing to do with it at all, they didn't like the deal when Shareef was in Atlanta but Portland kept pushing it. To say the Sonics weren't interested because Portland are a division rival is straight up silly.

SAR is not even close to the talent or player Ray is.</div>

I know SAR is not at the same level as Ray Allen. But Ray Allen has already said that he is going to leave Seattle after this season. Do you think they will let him walk after this season without any compensation? I sure as hell dont. I think that deal makes sense for both team. We can also throw in a future first round draft pick. They get the frontcourt player they need in SAR along with the pick. They can move Flip to SG. It makes too much sense.

Ray Allen never stated that at all, he has said all along he wants a contract extention and be in Seattle long term. He has had problems with the management because of the extention. And I'm sure If he wanted out the Sonics would get alot more than Shareef for him

SAR is one of those players that have great stats on terrible teams who has no winning attuide or heart.

I consider Ray Allen a superstar type player, you don't trade him away for a guy who by many is considered a loser.

What i notice is that players that come on the nets or on the nets become better players but I think SAR would be a better player here. Cause Jkidd elevates everybodies game.

Actually I think this comment is off-base.

Look up and down the list, outside of developing talent in Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson who has become even marginally better than they were?

    Rodney Rogers?
    Lucious Harris?
    Dikembe Mutumbo?
    Kerry Kittles?
    Keith Van Horn?

    I can't think of anyone...

Rodney Rogers when we got him he was already over the hill.

Lu Harris you could say is like rogers but still got some life in him.

De Mu is way over the the hill when we got him.

Keith Van Horn would have been better if he stayed with us he was a key part for this team gong to the championship and the nets missed his scoring the past 2 seasons.

Kerry Kittles to i knew he was going to be just a mediocre player he was great in villanova but had just enough skill to be a nba player. He is a roleplayer thats it

But heres a few Jason Kidd(was already developed but it showed that he can take a team to the champioship), Drazen Petrovic(became an even better player then what he was in Portland), Starbury, Sam Cassell, Kenny Anderson, and Derrick Coleman

Your right Rodney Rogers didnt become better in with the Nets, he actually became worst. But he was just arisk Rob Thorn took because he wa teammates with J.Kidd in PHX together.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Lucious Harris?</div>

You could say Lucious Harris became marginally better as a Nets player than he was with the Mavs.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dikembe Mutumbo?</div>
No need to comment of course he fell off as a Net

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kerry Kittles?
    Keith Van Horn?</div>

They were our draft picks so you cant say whether they got better when they became Nets because they never played anywhere before us. And you cant compare what they did in college because the level of competion is totally different.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I can't think of anyone...</div>

Stephen Jackson he couldnt even make the Suns when he was drafted by them in 97'. So he had to go overseas, but we gave him a chance in 2000. And he opened up alot of eyes with the Net due to the minutes he got because of Kittles injury. And led to him signing with the Spurs & look he is going to be one of the hottest free Agents on the market this year.

Damon Jones- Another player who couldnt find away in the NBA, but we were the 1st team to give him a legit shot on the NBA level in 98'. And now he is a pretty productive player on the NBA level.

Drazen Petrovic-Most def. He was a 3rd round pick in1986 of Portland. But he idnt come to the Blazers until his rookie contact was almost in 1989. He hardly played with them that. And nobody really knew who he was when the Nets got him in 90'. But by 91' he was one of he best SG in the league. And Drazen Petrovic success with the Nets really opened the door for all the overseas players like Tony kukoc, & then Peja, Dirk. Because the NBA wasnt really taking risk on bringing over shooters from over seas before Drazen. Detlef Schrempf is the only truely successful one drafted before Drazen. And they were basically during the same era.

I seen somebody mention Steph, He doesnt really count because he was already a highly scouted talent when he was on the Wolves. He probably could have went to any team just about. And put up those type of # he did with the Nets.

Sam Cassell is in the same postion basically, he already proved himself his 1st two seasons with the Rockets. He never started during his 1st two seasons with them but he was often the player in the game in the 4th quarter over Kenny Smith(who was a former all-star in this league) during the Rockets championshp runs during those years. So eveybody Knew he would be a legit player. But I do understand why you said him because we gave him his 1st job as a everyday legit starter on the NBa level.

Jason Kidd was an all-star & considered to be a top 2 or at least 5 pg before he even came to the Nets so I wouldnt really say he got better because he came to the Nets.

And DC & Kenny Anderson were our Draft picks, so the same rules apply to them as Van Horn & Kittles.

I dunno if this has been posted, but there are rumors that the 22nd pick may be sent over to Portland for money.

Seems the trade for SAR may not happen

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In a move that could be made to free up money to re-sign Kenyon Martin, the Nets and Blazers have discussed a trade that would send the Nets' first-round pick to Portland for cash considerations, according to a Western Conference source.

The Nets own the No. 22 pick in Thursday's draft. Nets CEO Rod Thorn and Blazers GM John Nash had no comment on the deal that likely would include a player or two from Portland with a non-guaranteed or small contract.

Well if parting with our 1st round pick insures us that Kenton Martin stays, then I am all for it. But I most admit, I was looking forward to seeing what solid pick we could get. The Nets have few holes that need to be fix to make sure we get back to the fnals next year. And we have little cap space & little trade value on our current roster, so that 1st pick would have surely helped.

All the examples you guys brought of of players improving while NJ Nets are completely irrelavent. We were discussing improving as teamates of Jason Kidd, not as New Jersey Nets.

My bad I figured you were talking about the Nets in general. Well Lucious Harris is probably the only Nets player who Stats & role increased once J.Kidd came. Mainly because he played together with Kidd in Dallas where he had a similiar role off the bench. But Kidd doesnt just elevate a player. He elevates the entire team concept, which allows players to perfect their roles on the team.

^ Van Horn's best year was playing alongside Cassell, he even admitted that in a new article one time. But their was def a rebirth in Van Horn's game in 2001-02 from when he was playing alongside Steph. And thats exactly what I mean by Kidd elevating the team concept which allows players to play their roles perfectly. Van Horn's stats were the lowest of his Nets career in 2001-02 but he was clearly a more productive team player then he was the 2 years before when he averaged 19ppg & 17ppg respectively playing alongside Steph.

I agree with there henacy he became more of a team player sharing points with the rest of the team and he come in clutch alot of time when kidd came in. Remember the Boston game.

i wouldn't really mind sar, but it scares me a little bit too much. i don't like that fact that we will be trading for someone who has been a starter and plays the same position that a current player plays who is trying to get a new contract. i think this puts kmart in a bad position, i know it is business but as a fan i dont like it. i rather us go after/do the ray allen trade rumor that has been around. we obviously need outside shooting and ray allen is a top tier shooter. if you have the opportunity to get him, i think it is basically a must. we won't have much money to throw around, so i think we need to keep our draft pick if we can unless mentioned for money to use towards kenyon. we have said since last summer when kmart wanted a max or close to that the nets would match any offer, and i'm still trusting them. so i think if the nets org feels confident about keeping kmart, then we need to go after ray hard and early. if that cannot be done via just nj/sea/por or maybe a nj/sea/por 3way, then we could go after sar. i hope/wish we can have kmart resigned before we make moves. i know that probably won't happen, but it would make me feel a lot calmer for the summer. this is basically the same situation with kidd last year, except he was an unrestricted FA, that he might go to SA and we kept him. rod said we were going to keep kidd and we did, so i believe we will keep kmart. i don't know if it will be max, but if it has to be;then so be it. but maybe they can talk to kmart and show him thier commitment to winning and improving our team and maybe he won't ask for what he wants and maybe take a few $$ less. bottom line, sar is a nice talent but it makes me nervous that we might lose kmart. replacing kenyon with sar is going backwards IMO.

I say make the trade sar (give up our 2nd round pick instead of first) and use the 22 pick to pick up the best sg left in the draft and we can use him as a starter and let that player get the feel cause there are enough games in the season for a player to see what he can achive especially that they are playing along side kidd, jefferson, kmart and sar (if they get him). You gotta also remember that there are alot of quality players out there. Just look at detriot they tyshun prince at the 23 pick, indiana got al harrington at 25, and dallas got who was howard or the other guy as none draft pic. the draft is a gamble and we can take that at the position that we are in and if that doesnt work out lu can always start. Also heres a good one Van Exel came in the 2nd round of the draft. they need to take that chance but they have to do their homework. Plus with all these long term contract that are going around with the nets you gotta figure you can have a really solid team in a year. Or maybe all that i am saying is just wishfull thinking

Well. I have spent MUCH time trying to find the angles ofr both sides. I see that Thorn is forgetting Martin and going for a real stand-up Vet. But I don't see much for Portland. Sure they got Randolph, but you can get a front-line player in exchange for Rahim. None of the offered players will be impact players.

Portland is Portland, what are ou gonna do? :/

i believe the nets future rests on Jason kid Primarily.

I believe if Kidd can reabilitate from his surgery and play with the intensity that he played with in the past, that he'll be able to make the team work with any aquisitions the nets managements gets.

I just truly think the nets need a second gameplan to fall back on when there run and gun style is cut off.

plus all that running and gunning is probilly horrible for kids ailing knees.
