This is just for fun to turn away from all the things that are going on with the team. If you had a pool of all the old and new Net players how would you assemble them from the starting lineup to the bench combined 12 players. This would be my team Starting Lineup PG JKidd SG Petrovic SF Dr. J PF KMart C Derrick Coleman Bench Sam Cassell Kenny Anderson Richard Jefferson Buck Williams Starbury Jayson Williams Shawn Bradley or Sam Bowie Head Couch is a toss up with Byron and Larry
My Active 12 man Roster: Starting 5 PG: Sam Cassell SG: Drazen Petrovic sf: Julius Erving PF: Derrick Coleman C: Buck Williams (buck will be playing an undesized center due to the fact no real centers made the cut, Jayson Williams will be acting as acenter as well like in 97-98) Bench F- Bernard King F- Rick Barry F- Kieth Van Horn G- Jason Kidd G- Kerry Kittles G- Kenny Anderson C- Jayson Williams Injuried Reserve- PF- Armen Gilliam, F- Kenyon Martin, G- John Williamson Just missed the Cut: Nate Archibald Otis Birdsong Reggie Theus Sherman Douglas Mookie Blaylock Chris Morris Kevin Edwards Johnny Newman Darryl Dawkins Richard Jefferson- He will be on the team in a few Guys like Mike O'Kearen, Eddie Jordan are also in consideration because of their on court & off court history. I cant think of the name o the guy that led us to our ABA titles in 74'& 76'. So this isthe coaching staff based on people I know off the top of myhead. Head coach- Byron Scott- Hey he was at the head when we went t back to back finals. Despite everybody saying it was EJ who was the mastermind. He still deserves that respect. I will just suround him by other great basketball minds from Nets history. Ass. Coaches Larry Brown(coached Nets from 1981-83) Chuck Daly( coached Nets from 1992-94) Stan Albeck( took over the Nets shortly after LB left)
Yeah i like that team but Van Horn made the cut I like Reggie Theus, Rick barry, Armen Gilliam, and Bernard King, even Kendall Gill was nice
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah i like that team but Van Horn made the cut</div> Van Horn made the cut because the Nets only made the playoffs 11 times after the NBA & ABA merged. And Van Horn was a big part of 2 of those playoff teams from basically to different eras. He help lead us to the playoffs when he was just a rookie averaging 19+ in 97'-98'. And he was a key starter from the 2001'-02 team. He averaged 17 or better 4 out of 5 seasons with the Nets. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> I like Reggie Theus</div> Regggie Theus is a great player but he only played one season with us at the end of his career. It was a great season but his best years was clearly with the Bulls & kings in the 80's. So he missed the cut another fromer Net that comes to mind like that is Orlando Woolridge his best years was with the Bulls in the early 80's before he came to the Nets as well. ,<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Rick barry</div>, Rick Barry made the team despite only playing for the Nets for 2 seasons because well his 2 seasons were just that good. And he is just that good. He wa agmost the ABA leading scrers both years averaging about 30 pts. But he doesnt come close to giving DR. J a run for his starting spot on my team. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Armen Gilliam,</div> The Hammer is hands down on of my favorite, not only Nets, but players of Al-time. He was a serious work horse for our playoff team during the chuck Daly era. So I had to throw him on IR just incase one of the work horses like Buck or J.Will go down he can fill in and do similiar dirty work. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Even Kendall Gill</div> Kendall Gill imo stinks, when we 1st got Kendall Gill him at the start of the 96 season. I was thinking he was a great addition because of the type of player he was wit the Hornets & Sonics. And he put up great # that 1st year. But after we put together a legitimate team in 97' & his shots decreased. All he did ws complain despite the fact we were winning. And he also had a large part to do with the horrible chemistry probems during the Steph era as well. All he will be remember for was that he came back from the lock stretch with blonde hair like a girl. And their was rumors that he spent his offseason & lockout stretch as a male stripper or some crap. This cat over time became straight joke as a Net.
Kendall Gill wow didnt know that. I agree with you on keith cause they missed his scoring these last 2 seasons. They need his 10 to 15 points. Gill was a great addition but like you said there was alot of bad chemistry there. at least we both agree on some players
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NJNetz:</div><div class="quote_post">Kendall Gill wow didnt know that. I agree with you on keith cause they missed his scoring these last 2 seasons. We dont really get a chance to discuss players from the pre- kidd era. This is a good opporunity to do so. Iam interested to see who people liked pre-kidd.
C: Buck Williams PF: Kenyon Martin(in my opinion better than Coleman) SF: Julius Erving SG: Drazen Petrovic PG: Jason Kidd
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Hendrix:</div><div class="quote_post">ok...drazen petrovic out of respect right...cuz starting over bernard king is rediculous</div> Bernard was a Small Forward, & his last year in Jersey doesnt really count cause of how injury filled it was...so you really have to go back to the 70's when Bernard was in his 1st stint with the Nets and even with that I would still take Drazen as a starter on a Nets all-time team over Bernard because Bernard is more of a Knick or a Bullet then a Net despite his great two seasons. Drazen will clearly be always remember as & only as a Net, despite being drafted by Portland.
PG - Jason Kidd (allll the wayyy) SG - Drazen Petrovic SF - Julius Erving PF - K-mart C - Derrick Coleman (early years)
I've just become big Nets fan so dont get on me for the players I'm posting, but for sure it wont be Carter because he hasnt done anything on the Nets yet. PG-Jason Kidd SG-dont know, but I'll go with Kittles for now. SF-Julius Erving PF-Kenyon Martin C-Derrick Coleman
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 02civic:</div><div class="quote_post">archibald should be on everyones list...he's a hall of famour and a class act</div> Nate was a great player without doubt, But he only played like 40 games as a Net. Its hard to put him over KA, J-Kidd, Sammy C, who all played here multiple years. And led Jersey to the playoffs.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PF: Kenyon Martin(in my opinion better than Coleman)</div> No, no, and no. Anyone who's watched Coleman play as a Net can easily see that Coleman was better than Kenyon at every facet of the game. He had handles, shot up to the three point line, rebounded, block shots, and played good to great defense. He was unstoppable, and is one of the three players that Shaq admits to get dunked on. And the dunk was sick. Even Charles Barkley claimed that he could have been the best power forward of all time As for my team, I'd have Jason Kidd Drazen Petrovic Julius Erving Buck Williams Derrick Coleman I figure with all the scoring provided by Dr. J, Drazen, and Derrick, players like Buck and Kidd would help with everything else; assists and rebounds. Though Derrick is not really a center, he can face up against other centers and take them off the dribble. With all the penetrating Drazen opens up for threes. I doubt it'd match up that great against other all time teams like the Lakers or Celtics, but still a great team nonetheless.
Alright the list I am about to post may be a bit controversial but these are my thoughts. PG- Jason Kidd SG- Vince Carter SF- Julius Erving PF- Kenyon Martin C- Derrick Coleman 6th Man- Richard Jefferson
