It seems to be a well known fact that Snyder has been guaranteed by Portland at 13, and with us picking a spot above them, I have heard a few whispers around that we may have guaranteed him at 12. Obviously this doesn't make a lot of sense as he is a 2/3 swingman (albeit an excellent defender), but as I considered this a bit more I thought it could indicate a deal with Portland in the works.

Could drafting Snyder be part of a pre-agreement with the Blazers to get Shareef without giving up Ray Allen? It makes sense to me, but then again it could be all rumour and inuendo and I'm putting two and two together to make five.

    Certainly an interesting thought, though.

Maybe he's a potential replacement, either for Ray in the trade scenario or Barry in free agency.

If that is the case, then I'd much rather see us opt for Jackson, in the likely scenario both are available (although to be fair, Jackson is a bad defender whereas that is Kirk's strength). I still think 12 is too high for Snyder, but I guess you get that in a shallow draft.

As much as Portland would like Snyder, I doubt they panic and make an over-the-odds deal simply so they can land him. As you said, Luke Jackson is also a very attractive proposition, so I can't see Portland making some deal (possibly passing up Ray Allen) simply so they can land a player who isn't all much of a better prospect than Luke Jackson (or equivalent).

I would much rather us select Al Jefferson straight-up, than playing funny buggers with Portland. I'd hate to see us compromise our draft position in this fashion, let alone because we shouldn't give Ray up for SAR anyway.

I was actually meaning a deal like Lewis and Snyder for Reef, but I think we'd be giving up too much in that sort of a trade. Would be a great deal for the Blazers though, and would probably make them contenders.

I am with you on the basis that we keep our pick and target Jefferson. Interesting to read that the Jazz will take Araujo if he's there at 14, so if we want him we won't be able to trade down.

Yeah, what I was trying (and obviously struggling) to put across is that we could still take Jefferson and still have the necessary pieces to acquire SAR, without giving up Ray. Of course, drafting Jefferson we essentially don't need SAR ... but that's another situation altogether.

My source tells me Snyder is the guy Seattle are high on after Iguodala, who will be gone. Ray Allen is also Kirk's idol, so it may signal the end of Rashard Lewis' tenure in Seattle if we go ahead and select Snyder.

We haven't even worked out Jefferson, and I'm being told we may just go safe with a guard/SF in this draft. If we take a HSer, it may be a trade down to get JR Smith. Another source tells me that the team expects big things from Collison and that he will contribute right away, hence not looking at Jefferson or Humphries.

I am not opposed to drafting Snyder, as if anything it indicates that we are looking to build the team in Nate's mould.

Nah I got what you were saying, but I'm thinking it may have been a situation where Portland have said 'give us Ray, or take Snyder and trade him here so we can use our pick on someone else'. At the moment it seems we are high on Snyder anyway.
