Traded: Eddie Gill and $3 mill cash for #22 pick! Great!

    Portland now owns three firsts

    ESPN.com

The Portland Trail Blazers may be closer to finding a first-round spot for Lincoln High (N.Y.) point guard Sebastian Telfair after agreeing to trade backup point guard Eddie Gill and $3 million to the New Jersey Nets for the 22nd overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft, league sources told ESPN.com Sunday night.

The trade, which will be consummated on draft night, gives the Blazers three first-round picks at No. 13, 22 (from New Jersey) and 23 (from Memphis to fulfill the terms of a Bonzi Wells trade last year).

Nets chief executive officer Rod Thorn told the New York Post Sunday that "we may trade the pick. That's a distinct possibility."

Iam guessing that eddie Gill will be released as well. He doesnt fill our needs in a backup point guard. We need a more proven vet with some substance especially with Kidd's knee. But anyway...if trading away the pick means we keep Martin then tell Rob to make it happen.

Its still going to be interesting to watch the draft to see what was available that we could have gotten. And you never know we might get a solid steal in the 2nd round with the 52nd pick. Chris Duhon or Tony Allen may still be available late 2nd round. Allen can help our 2 guard problems if we cant makea trade to upgrade the position. And Duhon could give it a shot as the backup pg,if we dont want to sign a veteran pg to the veteran minimum

I like this trade from both sides. Im a blazer fan (a nets fan also), Eddi Gill is not that bad, he plays solid defense, good court vision (not as good as kidd's), his main weakness is he is not a good shooter.

i dont know enough about gill to comment on his so i wont. hopefully this trade in getting $3mil will help us resign kmart or if we already have that covered to be used to sign a FA. hopefully this is one step closer to seeing kmart wear the NJ colors next year. if not then im going to be upset about this move. if we don't resign kmart, i will see this trade as a bust unless something big happens.

can someone give me a little bit of info about gill. aside from looking at his #'s what does he bring to a team in a positive and negative way. maybe since hen feels we will release him, maybe we can include him in a deal for all/sar or some other trade that might go down.

I don't think the Nets are keeping Gill..I believe he's a non-garunteed contract, so look for the Nets to cut him.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">League sources told ESPN.com that the deal is done but it can't be announced until after the conclusion of the first round Thursday night in New York. New Jersey would make the No. 22 selection for the Blazers.</div>

it says in that link that they can't announce it until after the first round. we will make the #22 pick for the blazers then the announcement will be made. that's why no one has reported it (espn) because it is not offical.

Check out all the mock draft sites. They have Portland with the 22nd and 23rd pick. It's just a matter of making it official after NJ picks for them.
