<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It appears that the Charlotte Bobcats are close to making their first major trade as a franchise. The Clippers and Bobcats are in serious trade discussions that would send Los Angeles' No. 2 pick in the draft along with center Peja Drobjnak to Charlotte for the No. 4 pick, two league sources tell ESPN Insider Chad Ford. One of the sources confirmed to Ford on Monday that the trade was close to being finalized.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2004/ne...tory?id=1825791 This is a steal for the Bobcats IMO, because I still feel Drobnjak is a very good player. He will give the Cats a starting center for next season as well, and I think his contract is only about 3 million so it's not like he's an overpaid player either. Good trade for the Bobcats, and another stupid move by the Clippers.
Bad trade for the clips they could have gotten so much more if they wanted to trade with any team looking to move up in the nba. With this all they did was empty some of there cap which they already had alot of and fall down two picks didnt improve the team at all. With rumors from philly that there willing to trade dalembert to move up and teams like the hawks tring to get howard. They could have gotten possible a jason terry from atlanta or a future defensive star in dalembert from the sixers. Bad move imo.
Its not that bad of a deal for the Clipps, they get rid of Drobs contract which isn't good at all and they get an extra pick while still getting the PG the want.
Actually Drobnjak's contract is not bad at all, especially with what he is capable of doing. His contract is only 3 million, and I believe a scoring center like him would be perfect for a team that is just starting out. I already thought the Bobcats would pick him in the expansion anyway, so trading down to the #4 to get rid of him was a dumb mistake. Great trade from the Bobcats' standpoint though, now they get one of the two big men with promising futures.
Good deal for both teams except Drobnjak could be a potential star or bust. Depends on what happens and another factor is if Livingston is still available at 4th pick.
I didn't expect a trade like this to go down, especially since it was a dumb move for the Clippers, but oh well. The Bobcats now move up in the draft, and only fair IMO. Give the new team a better chance to pick the right player they desire. Btw, is the expansion draft going to be on television tomorrow night on ESPN/ESPN2 or just NBA TV?
someone care to explain this trade to me? Why would the Clippers trade #2 and Drobnjak (who isn't even a contract dump since he's cheap and on his last year) for #4 and a 2nd rounder? It seems like such a lose-lose situation for them especially considering how much the Hawks wanted #2.. Only thing I can think of is that there is some fine print involved that will have the Bobcats select someone the Clippers want in the expansion draft (perhaps a big contract).. which frees up cap space for their pipe dream of acquiring Kobe ???

The Clippers don't have bad contracts so there's really nothing they get out of this move. I've heard Clipper owner Donald Sterling wasn't happy about paying Drobnjak's 3million dollar contract because he barely got any playing time. The Clippers also still have Wilcox as their main sixth man, and I'm guessing they didn't feel it was worth keeping Paja. Like I've said many times, this was just another dumb move by the Clippers. I wish there was more to it, but it is just another dumb move.. The Bobcats would have most likely taken Drobnjak anyway, which makes this an even worse trade for the Clippers. Like you said the Clippers could have gotten a better value fairly easy, especially with Atlanta being so interested in Howard. Believe it or not, this is just another dumb "lose-lose" situation for the Clippers.
Wow. Bad move for the Clips. They should've dealt with Hawks since they're the team with the most need for the number 2 pick. They would've given more.
