"He's not untradable," said Ainge. "There's no such thing. I would be asking about Paul Pierce. He's worth the money. He fits the criteria everyone is looking for." "I would not say Paul's a superstar," said Ainge. "My classification of a superstar is different than a lot of people's classification of a superstar. Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kevin Garnett are the three superstars we have in our league today. "Paul's a star. He's a perennial All-Star player. I don't classify that as a superstar. I think a superstar is a franchise player that year in and year out has all the characteristics to carry a championship team." I would have liked Pierce on the Rockets more than McGrady... Does Ainge want to ruin the Celtics? Seriously, he messed up BIG TIME on Antwan Walker, Ricky Davis, maybe Paul Pierce...
I think he realizes the team is rebuilding now. They're not the same team they were a few years ago when they made that great run for the Eastern Conference championship before being beaten by the Nets. Granted, trading Pierce would be a step in the wrong direction I think, but, who knows what goes through his mind. And, actually, I don't think trading Antwaan was a bad thing. He took a lot of bad shots and jacked up a lot of 3s. He also has a terrible contract that they were able to get rid of and free up cap space by doing so. And Ricky wasn't a terrible pick up. He's a phenomenal athlete and has all the makings of a player who could be a star in this league. He has one problem though. He doesn't really believe in team basketball. But, he did do a great job as a 6th man down in Boston, so, I don't think that was a big mistake at all.
even though they are rebuilding, they need to keep thier product somewhat watchable and presentable to their fans. they need to keep paul for a business standpoint unless they get another big name. but with ainge saying that paul ISNT a superstar, he is making pauls vaule lower. if he comes out and says he is a superstar and is tradeable, then he can get more for pp. they would get a good return for pp regardless whether ainge sees paul as a super or just a star, but if he said he is a superstar it gives more of an impression that he is a franchise player and if they gave him up boston would want more than what just a 'star' could get. hell, i would love to have pierce on the nets, we sure could use him
Ainge is pure and simply an idiot. This is a guy that use's brian wave test's to find players. He was an ok player and a decent coach (sorta when he wasn't quiting), but as a GM he's over his head. Mchale and Bird can handle the gig. Even Isiah can to it. Not Danny Ainge.
No where in that article does it say that Ainge "wants to trade Pierce". He simple reitterated his philosophy that no one is untradeable if the right deal presents itself, which in fact is actually old news, since he said the same thing before this season started.
ainge needs to go back to utah and die under a rock celts need to get with the mcgrady francis deal and trade davis to orlando for francis...and %$#*$ leave pierce where he is
ainge never was in utah, he was in boston, portland, phoenix, and back in boston, he coached the suns before skiles, but he was never in utah in the nba.

Look for him to be in La La land next year as part of the Shaq deal. That would be 3 teams in two years. If he is so good, why did Dallas leave him unprotected?? Its obvious he isnt worth the money being paid. In fact,Boston may have been stupid giving him a max contract before Pitino got out of dodge. Give Ainge time. He has been successful in every endeavor.

And to reitterate my feelings in yet another thread, this rumor sucks and better not be true.
And what MADE him say those comments? Did some dude from the media question him about ever considering to trade him? I don't think any player in the NBA that is available for him can replace him. All the players of his caliber or better are pretty much going to another team or locked up on their team. If Pierce was to be traded, I think it would make Ainge the dumbest GM in history. The purpose of a trade is to benefit your team right? I don't think any trade available for Pierce would benefit the Celtics. Just keep him for what he's worth, and that is a franchise player. A GM's comment worth more than all the fan's comments combined, but to say he isn't a franchise player and that he's not untradeable is not what a GM should consider and think about.

Pierce <div class="quote_poster">Quoting bhl:</div><div class="quote_post">from what ive heard, chandler and the #3 pick for pierce.</div> if thats true, ainge will get the city of boston to storm his house with pitchforks and molotav cocktails...that is not nearly worth what pierce is...worth
oh yeah, they would include eddie robinson with chandler and the #3, but you are right, pierce is worth more.
The antwoine walker deal ainge pulled off was great... They relieved themselves of huge cap space...a PF who thinks he's in a 3 pt shooting competition night in/ night out... They gave more playing time to mark blount and he put up some good numbers... and the celtics still made the playoffs... What more can you ask?
i would like to see pierce with the bulls more than i would like to see mcgrady, because orlando prob wants more in return and pierce plays better defense and p[lays with more heart and doesn't ballhog like t-mac and the bulls giving up chandler and robinson which are 2 players i would really like to see leave and still have the number 7 pick is good, maybe they can draft iguodala if available or trade it for harrington, we'll see...
