VITALS: 6-8, 262, Missouri OVERVIEW: Johnson spent four seasons at Missouri, putting up some impressive numbers. He averaged 16.4 points this past season, although his rebounding dipped to 7.5 per game. Johnson excels at using his beefy frame to gain interior position for high-percentage shots. Whether he can do that in the NBA remains to be seen. A noted shot blocker, the Detroit native is not a great one-on-one defender inside. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Johnson is considered a probable second-rounder. When he returned to school last fall rather than opt for the NBA, that was not the situation he was hoping to play his way into. Nevertheless, Johnson did not show enough during his senior season at Missouri or at Chicago to significantly boost his stock. COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Wayman Tisdale COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Sam Clancy ROLE PROJECTION: Reserve POSITIVES: Johnson takes up space in the lane at 255 pounds. He has a 7-3 wingspan that increases his rebounding and shot-blocking production and is a solid low post scorer. Johnson also is one of the oldest players in this draft, having spent four years at the NCAA level. He can come in and contribute right away. SHORTCOMINGS: Although he can score with his back to the basket, Johnson's low-post game is nothing fancy. It was effective in college, but will it still be in the NBA? He measured 6-7 without shoes at Chicago and he is not a quick mover with his feet. Despite his strength, he might be at a physical disadvantage in the NBA. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "I know him very well. (He) played in the Global Games and (I) watched him over his four-year career. He's looking really slim and trim in this (Chicago) camp. He's smart and can pass it. Big body, long arms. He's doing real well for himself in this camp." - Dallas Mavericks president Donn Nelson
Arthur Johnson only played three games for the Bobcats in the Minnesota Summer League (not sure why). He averaged 4.7 ppg and 4.0 rpg shooting 33%. Those are pretty dissapointing stats if you ask me. I thought he was the best undrafted player this year.
