<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Dallas Mavericks, while still hoping to convince the Los Angeles Lakers to send them Shaquille O'Neal, look to have completed another major trade on the eve of the NBA draft, ESPN.com has learned. The Mavericks, according to league sources, have acquired the No. 5 overall pick in Thursday's draft from Washington as part of a package that features Antawn Jamison, the newly minted Sixth Man of the Year, as the prize catch for the Wizards. The other players involved in the deal were not immediately known. Sources, however, say the Mavericks hope to use the No. 5 pick -- or possibly another player or players acquired in the deal -- to sweeten the package they can offer the Lakers in exchange for the disgruntled O'Neal. It is also possible, sources say, that the Mavericks will pursue additional trades with the other pieces they land from Washington. </div> link
Kind of surprised to hear that it's a good deal from a Mavs fan, because the top players in this draft will all be gone by the time No. 5 comes around IMO. I personally liked Jamison a lot and I'm very surprised to hear that he's gone for so little. There is probably another deal lined up behind this, but so far I can't make any sense of it. We'll get a better idea of why this was done once we find out who the others involved in the trade were.
Well, the Mavs also get Christain Lattner(however u spell it) and Stackhouse also, so its not too bad
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting The Jersey Boi:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, the Mavs also get Christain Lattner(however u spell it) and Stackhouse also, so its not too bad </div> what? this sounds like a terrible trade to me. mavs give up a versitile player who can start or come off the bench, for an aging swingman, and an aging pf. neither of them address their immediate needs in a low post defender, or rebounder, and another swingman is the LAST thing they need. especially one like stack-daddy who will prolly complain about minutes...especially in dallas, where they got marquis, howard and finley who can all fill minutes at that spot. this deal is STIRCTLY for incentive to bring shaq over...nothing more
Nah good trade for Mavs, 5th round pick.. Stackhouse who is decent, not sure who the other guy is tho.
I like it for the Mavericks. If Stackhouse regains his health and plays 70 games next season, Dallas would not suffer much loss in production. They also get a familiar face in Laettner who knows Nelson's system, and a free 5th pick. Forget Shaq, they should just stick with the current roster IMO. They can't take Pavel with the 5th pick, he is just a mid first rounder at best. Take either Harris or Gordon just in case Nash does not return.
Now that I found out Stackhouse and Laettner are involved in this deal it makes sense.. I guess I spoke too soon. Now I do like this trade for Dallas, because Stackhouse has a very reasonable contract and if I remember right Laettner's deal is about to end soon. I'm real curious to see who the Mavericks pick with the #5 overall, and I'm also hoping it won't be Pavel because he isn't worth going that high.
Dang I wonder what our line up will look like now? pg - nash sg -fin/stac sf - stac/fin pf walker/dirk c dirk/latiner/walker ??
I think they just wanted to make room for Shaq. Now they can trade Dirk + 5th pick for Shaq attak. This would be a nightmare for me as a mavs fan.
nah, i dont think there gonna trade dirk, i would say 5th pick, walker or finally (maybe both) and possibily one other player for shaw, mark said he'll trade anyone but dirk.

This trade is not official yet. I was just watching espn and they said that the trade is still in its proposed form not official. As well as the trade that would give chicago the 7th pick is still in the proposed form. So we will have to see if it goes through if you go to www.nba.com and look at the draft setup it still says the wizards have that pick.

He'll have far more impact this season than Livingston will have. He'll be a great pro, too. One of the things that I like most about Harris is that he's played 3 years of ball in the Big Ten & he's played in big games. He was Wisconsin's leader this year, too.
The only reason stack, and laetner were in the trade was to clear up cap room, and Devin Harris is a great pick-up.
