Josh Smith Birthdate: 12/5/85 Ht: 6-8 Wt: 220 Position: Small Forward Class: HS Senior College: Indiana High School: Oak Hill Academy Hometown: Smyrna, GA NBA Comparisons: Optimistic Outlook: Vince Carter Pessimistic Outlook: Devean George Positives: Freakish athlete. His athleticism at the high school level is extraordinary . Great vertical leap and very fast running the floor. He is a great shotblocker because of his long arms and leaping ability. Decent ball handling skills and could be a potentially great wing player. Jump shot is coming along nicely. He has the potential to become the best player in this draft class. Negatives: Plays on the wing, but needs to slash to the bucket more. Needs to improve his shooting, but at the highschool level who doesn't. Has gotten a lot stronger, but could use a little more added bulk. Still learning the game. --------------------------------------------------------- So this is his NBA Draft profile. I've been following Josh Smith and I think he is a very versatile player. I thought ATL would be a good place for him, right by home and a team that needs basically all positions. So my question is, is why are so many people doubting him? Jay Bilas says that Josh is most likely to be a bust and people keep doubting him. Why is this? I mean all he needs to do is work on his consistency from the 3 point arc, get stronger, and slash to the basket more. What's wrong with him that so many people are doubting him? On another forum, a Hawks fan said he wasn't happy with the pick at all. Why is this? I feel he will have a good career in the NBA.
Maybe because he made the jump from HS to NBA and those guys hate on that? Or maybe he's not NBA ready...
He did make the jump though. Indiana was his #1 choice for college and he committed there, but then decided he was ready for the NBA.
I think why so many people dought him is because of his lack of an outside shot. Most of his points come off of dunks or layups. He's not going to get those buckets easily in NBA. Also he seems a little too cocky.
He should of done 2 years of college, his shot is really inconsistent and college would of helped him out..I dont think he will be NBA ready for about 4 or 5 years and is likely has the best chance to be the biggest bust out of all the high schoolers drafted this year.
Atlanta is hands down the wrong place for josh smith to be he will be lucky if he gets any play time this yr. Atlanta drafted josh childress who plays the 2 and 3 they got al harrington whos plays the 3 they got antwan walker who plays the 3 and the 4 and they got donta smith who plays the 2 and the 3 josh smith may not be a bust but he will sure find a comfortable place on the pine

i talked to josh the other night and he said that he likes being back in his hometown and playing for them. josh is the kind of person who doesnt really care where he plays. he is just out there to prove that he can play.
A Vince Carter comparasion is not a good one. Although he might have similar like skills, Carter fits better in the NBA. I can't see this kid being much better than Devean George in his career.
hate to say it but 04/05 Josh Smith = 03/04 Darko I think he will improve, but not for a while, and don't expect him to ever give more than 15ppg
Yeah I do, Cavs, do you want me to post it so, everyone can read it and so you don't need to say how you know him all the time.
i can't seem to ind i. I must have deleted it by accident. Sorry Cavs you'll just have to explain it again.
Josh Smith has no heart and that will prevent him from being a good player in the league. He gives up on games and its like why do you even play? Its moves like this that makes atlanta suck.
um have you seen him play? or are you basing your thoughts on the high school all star games you watched which would be the only time you could have seen him play?
Yeah ive seen him play in about 12 games. Most he did good but there were some that his team was down early and he just like quit. it wasnt like they were down by alot but he just quit like he would come up the court slow miss open shots miss dunks and such. Thats not an NBA star in the making.
