Many white fans hate him, because they feel he is a poor representation of them in the NBA, soft, unfashionable (socks). They'd rather be represented by the 'cooler' Kidd or 'harder' Mark Madsen, hence their popularity. I'm white and I don't know why fans have to feel represented but they do.
I don't feel he is a poor rep for white people in the NBA. In fact, I don't feel that people try to represent their race at all in the NBA. They just play the way they've always played and dress however they want for games. I personally don't care how he dresses or how he plays. I think he could be tougher but, if that's not his style, who cares.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting pgrudo00:</div><div class="quote_post">What's wrong with VanHorn? Everything is.</div> No. Totally false. Granted he does have his faults, but, not everything is wrong with him. He is a good rebounder for someone who plays out on the perimeter 85% of the time, he can shoot the ball, good free throw shooter, so, no, not everything is wrong with him. If you think everything is wrong with him, you should really back up why you think that.

Mad Dog ain't that bad. He hustles and has the guts to guard Shaq. How cool is that? I hate Van Horn coz he didn't help out KMart and Todd guard Shaq during the finals series two years ago.
Everyone traded him because they were offered better players who they thought would benefit their team, simple as that. It's not how good a player is, it's how good the offer is.
Actually, it is how good the player is in a way. Cause, you could get a pretty good offer, but, it may require you trading off a great player also. It all depends on how much management values that particular player(s) in the deal. So, in that aspect, it is how good the player is or how much potential the player has. Cause, no matter how enticing a deal is, management might not take it if they have to give up a player that they value a lot either because of potential or because they're already a solid player.
He doesn't suck. On defense, he does suck, but, offensively, he doesn't. He can shoot and has a very nice touch for someone standing 6'10", and, because of his height, he can also stretch the defense. So, offensively he doesn't suck....at least in the regular season. Postseason his average drops off about 6 ppg. On defense, he does pretty much suck though. But, overall, he's not a terrible player. Just a bad defender, which is why I really don't like him. But he doesn't totally suck.
I never really liked him... no fashion sense, isn't too bad at ball but I dont like his style. And he really really needs a new damn haircut, everyone knows this and he probbaly does too!!!

Everytime Van Horn gets trade its suppose to be for a player thats better than him or more productive at least, but they have all turned out to be busts. In 2002, Van Horn & Todd MacCullah got trade from the Nets for Dikembe Mutombo, But as a Net all Mutombo was on the Nets for that season was a inrjury prone-washed up center. And now the Nets are still stuck with some of his(Mutombo's) salary on their cap. Then he got traded dealt from the sixers to the Knicks in the three way deal, that landed G-Rob in Philly, everybody said that Robinson was a better #2 option then Van Horn but Robinson spent more time on the injured list then on the basketball court this year. And with Philly drafting Andre Iguodala, who will have to play small Forward more than likely(especially if Eric Snow stays) because the backcourt will be full with Iverson, Snow, Green, Kover all needing to play minutes. Robinson will ended up being pretty useless as a sixer because the young fella will probably end up taking his spot because he bring more all-around assets to the table. It wuldnt shock me with Robinson beng in his last year under contract, if he got dealt by the all-star break next year or trade deadline. And the Knicks trading of Van Horn has been pretty much a bust as well. Tim Thomas pretty much hast done anything since bein traded to the Knicks except get injuried. But that trade is still early so we can give it at least a season to see if it works out. But up until now, none of the Van Horn deals that were expected to make those teams better did make those teams better. The Nets might can say they got better because it opened up a spot for Jefferson to start & play alot. But in the 2003 finals the following year, they sure could have used Van Horn even as a 6th man becase they had no scoring production off their bench what so ever. And Rodney Rogers ended up being a poor replacement for Van Horn as their combo forward.
He's not a complete player. And that should be ok in the NBA because not everyone needs to be the best at everything. I think he just needs to find a team who only wants him for his O.
There is racism in the NBA. And KVH has fallen victim to it. He is a SOLID player who puts up solid stats. He'll give you 16 points and 8 rebounds while providing some spark to the game. He is VERY underrated and, if given the chance, could still be, pretty successful.
