David Harrison is 7 feet, 285 pounds, intelligent and personable. That much, everyone agrees upon.

After that, the Indiana Pacers' first-round draft pick is best described as enigmatic given the various opinions swirling about him.

Some say he has an NBA body and skills, runs the floor well, should have gotten the ball more in college and should have been drafted higher.

Others say he should have stayed for his senior season at Colorado, could have worked harder, needs to learn to handle double-teams better, is turnover prone, doesn't have a scoring weapon other than his brute size and strength and needs to get a better grip on his emotions.

I like that he has "Artest temper" but I don't believe that harrison is so good that he say he is......he said he is compeared to Shaq! but if so it's just good, and I love seein him in the camp......Aint it too much too have 3 Centers on a team that just uses one: Jeff Foster!
    why don't draft a SG!!!!!!!

If only Kevin Martin made it a few more picks and slipped down to us then we would have drafted a Sg but unfortunetly there werent any worth drafting at that point.

^As they say, when in doubt...draft big. I was even surprised to see Delonte West and Tony Allen gone so early. This draft was truely weak in terms of shooting guards. Any team that was drafting above 20 would have a hard time finding a serviceable one.

Indiana still has a lot of work to do in the offseason so their search for a shooting guard doesn't end with the draft. I am a little confident that they still are in the hunt for Tracy Mcgrady (No matter what anyone says, he would be a god send if he came to Indiana).

We dont need to dismantle our extremely close to championship team for a guy like Tracy. Hes a great sg but we dont need that caliber of player to win a championship. We could easily take our team to the next level with a guy like Quentin Richardson for example. Getting him would be easy and fairly cheap.

^I would not really see that signing as Indiana taking it to the next level in terms of play. He isn't exactly an effective shooting guard and he is also a little undersized for the small foward position.

I agree that dismantling may not be the way to go but if the Pacers can find a good deal that would allow either Artest or Harrington to stay I would say for them to pull the trigger on the T-Mac deal. He would fill a huge scoring void that was absent during their playoffs run and could provide the defence that Artest brings under the right tutelage from Carlisle.

I see him as the next piece in the puzzle for the Pacers in terms of winning a championship. Surround them with the right players and they will give Detroit a run for their money.

All this team needs is a starting sg who can give u 12-15 points consistently. Thats y u dont need to start trading away our key guys like Artest and Harrington. We just won 60+ games I dont see the point in trading away those guys who almost got us to the finals. Quentin Richardson, Brent Barry etc can be signed/traded for cheap and will do exactly what we need.

I don't like gettin Tracy, he gives us scoring, but to get him, we will let all our good bench players that got this team this far away, and then J.O. maybe wouldn't produce as much as he used to. I like Fred jones on the 2, everyone talks about how bad his shot is, but come on he got a deadly jumper now, respectable defense, athletic, good passer.....allaround player! Undersized? yeah....look at boykins!
It would be nice if we could get a nice player, that doesn't break this team apart with his demandings, maybe a player like: Stephen Jackson, I know he is a SF, but can play SG, and most of all he wants to be traded. Shandon Anderson, good player in my opinion. Trenton Hassel, good defense( especially on Kobe in the Semi's ) not a bad jumper at all. Lucius Harris, a good shooter and passer, but undersized at the SG. Jim Jackson, maybe not a brick on the Houston roster if they keep TMac. Bonzi Wells, producer to the Grizzlies though. Ricky Davis? Maybe.

    More on Harrison:

Quote:

The questions about David Harrison's work ethic and demeanor seem destined to keep coming up for awhile. For the uninformed, the answers will be easy to find.

Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle went to the trouble of printing out and blowing up some of the quotes from Harrison's draft night pledge to prove his critics wrong. He plans to post them in Harrison's locker stall.

"He's gone on record with a lot of things and we're going to keep reminding him of that," Carlisle said during Harrison's news conference at Conseco Fieldhouse on Monday.

The Pacers believe they got a steal in Harrison, a 7-foot center from the University of Colorado, whom they plucked with the 29th pick in Thursday's NBA draft. Harrison's size, intelligence and skills are givens. His maturity and passion are not, which explains the freefall that would have dropped him into the land of non-guaranteed second-round contracts if not for the Pacers' saving grab.

Harrison can only guess at the origin of the doubts.

"I have a demeanor about me that I always look sleepy for some reason," he said. "When I play on the basketball court it's the same way. People look at me and say, 'Oh, he's exhausted.' "

Harrison's demeanor was calm, almost sheepish, Monday. Sitting between Carlisle and team president Larry Bird, bundled up in a beige suit with a Pacers hat pulled down tightly over his head, he seemed a bit dazed by the sudden shift in his life's direction.

Asked what it was like sitting next to Hall of Fame player Bird, he laughed nervously.

"I'm still kind of shocked about that," he said.

Harrison, one of 12 children, comes from a privileged background. His father, Dennis, played in the NFL for 10 seasons as a defensive lineman, making the Pro Bowl out of Philadelphia in 1983. He has since coached football in high school and at his alma mater, Vanderbilt. His mother, Ida, graduated in the top 10 in her class at Vanderbilt, and continues to work in nursing.

In regards to the T-Mac talk, none of it matters anymore. It looks like Houston is taking him. But I still would have thought him and JO would make an amazing superstar pair. He is a legit 25-30 point scorer and that will only open things up for JO down low.

If David Harrison grows up and stops being a whining baby, then he will be an absolute steal for Indiana, for IMO he has lottery talent. However he is very immature mentally, surprising for someone so smart in terms of academics and IQ.

Hmmmm my psychic vision sees a future Oliver Miller. One draft site said he is a future Benoit Benjamin which is really bad for the Pacers.
