Now, I'm not a fan of putting Dirk on the Lakers and taking Shaq. I wouldn't ever do that, even if salaries didn't matter and I could do the trade straight up. But look at this idea... It seems like the Cavaliers don't like Ilgauskas and he's been mentioned in a rumor with the Mavs/Lakers. How about trading Michael Finley for Big Z? That would give us a quality center (granted, he's no Shaq and doesn't play the best defense, he's still a nice center). After all, we're a center away from a championship.

C-Ilgauskas
PF-Nowitzki
SF-Stackhouse
SG-Daniels
PG-Nash
1.Walker
2.Howard
2.Harris
3.Podkolzine
4.Najera
5.Fortson
6.Laettner
7.Bradley

What do you think about this?

The problem with the Mavericks has always been defense, and adding Z to the lineup isn't going to help your team one bit. He is big, but he also lacks energy on the defensive end. In result you'll have the same kind of all scoring and no defense team again. Unless the Mavs look to add some quality defenders, they aren't going to get any further than they have the last few years.

I know Z is a decent center but he doesnt have that great of defense. Plus i dont want to get rid of Finley. I think we can get someone better than Z if we do get anyone.

Z would be a nice aquisition but i would hate to part with Finley.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas | 11

Ranks #19 in the NBA in Field-Goal Percentage(0.483)

Ranks #7 in the NBA in Blocks Per Game(2.48) Ranks #3 in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds(279.0) Ranks #5 in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds Per Game(3.4) Ranks #4 in the NBA in Blocks(201.0) Ranks #8 in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds Per 48 Minutes(5.3) Ranks #8 in the NBA in Blocks Per 48 Minutes(3.8) Ranks #18 in the NBA in Efficiency Ranking Per 48 Minutes(27.87)

Maybe stackhouse and Walker.

The Mavericks want Shaq because he is dominant and defend the post. He makes teams into a championship contender. But it wouldn't help the Mavericks alot. They are a fast break and a running team. Shaq won't be able to keep up. So the Mavericks will have to change their style of play.

But the problem is their lack of defense. The team needs role players not just stars. Role players are very important. They play a fast pace game and need to get points off the fast break and if they can't, they struggle. But the main reason is still the lack of defense.

I like the Stackhouse/Walker for Big Z trade. I think Z could be a good contributing factor to the Mavs on the verge of winning a title. With Phil Jackson out of LA, they dont have a prayer of a chance of winning a ring now. If they fire Nelly like the rumours Ive been heraing, Hire Phil Jackson or Pat Riley and a title will be yours. Yeah, but I think you guys might not realize this yet... Once Shaq is traded (hopefully not to us for 'everything we have'), he isn't as big a factor as he was when he was with LA. Think about it... The Lakers could trade him to Sacramento for Peja, Miller, and Bibby and have nothing left but Chris Webber and Shaq (whose to say Webber will play at all in the Playoffs...). There can't be another 'Kobe-Shaq' combo. That leaves us with the best team in the NBA, with our star power and new found depth on the bench, not to mention a quality 7 footer.

If the Mavericks don't make that blockbuster trade for Shaq, I think that Walker/Stackhouse for Ilgauskas would be a good deal for us to make but I would be happier if we got more of a defensive centre. He is a force on the offensive boards and is a pretty damn good blocker. He won't be needed to score as much as he had to in Cleveland, which should make him more of a threat on the defensive end.

We may have the best team talent wise and on paper like you say Bled11Harr3 but I'd say a team that thrives on defensive play could beat us, like Indiana or Detroit. We need more bangers, people like Jerome Williams, who don't care about the glory of scoring but are more focused on doing the little things, hustle plays. I think if we got a banger like Erick Dampier at Centre instead of Ilgauskas it would make our team better.

Ilgauskas is a scoring Centre, we need a Centre who wants to gather up rebounds like there's no tommorow and block shot's like he's on fire. That and only that will propel our team over this hump and send us into the NBA Finals.

Assuming no Shaq:
- Resign Nash and Daniels
- Walker for Damier
- Ship Stack and Laetner (cancers) anywhere you can

Yeh, I like the team! Two years ago, we were a pretty darn good team.
Last year we were a team with too many guys playing the same position.
We'll be a contender for 10 years.

True. I'd rather get Jerome myself... I think Dampier only played good last year becasue he wanted a big pay off in his new contract. Thats basically the only reason why I don't want him.
