<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Shaq and Kobe each would be driven to prove he can win without the other, and each would do anything to beat the other to that honor. For Shaq, that means getting in real shape for the first time in at least three years, enduring the pain in his feet, and sharing with what's left of his new team once half the roster is traded to get him. That would make it worth it for any team to tear itself up to get him. So far, it's been at least hinted that the Mavs, Pacers, Nets, even the Kings (imagine that) are willing to try. Now, wouldn't you love to see the Warriors included in that group? Sure. You'd also love to see the skies rain diamonds, the rivers run with Cristal and the Bay Bridge tolls rolled back to a dollar. But think about it -- and hope that, even for a couple of seconds, Chris Mullin and Mike Montgomery have thought about it. Mullin already has gone out on a limb on his first hire, Montgomery, who will be learning the NBA on the fly. Mullin's also stepped out on his first draft pick, Andris Biedrins, who brings that rare combination of being extremely young and from a completely different culture, a combination that more often than not has proved unsuccessful in this league. Not that there's anything wrong with that; on the contrary, it's exactly that kind of vision this franchise has lacked for years, and exactly the kind that leads to championships, even if it entails more than the ordinary patience. Mullin's current blueprint is not dissimilar from the one Joe Dumars drew up in Detroit, and you see how that turned out. At the same time, there's also room for the kind of vision that makes a team this historically wretched get into the mix for the services of a Shaquille O'Neal. Yeah, right, like the Warriors have anything to trade for him. Well, an awful lot of teams, including the Lakers, want Erick Dampier and are willing to pay for him, and he knows it, hence the no-brainer decision to opt out. How fortunate, for once, that he wants out at the exact same time the most dominant player of our time is trying to kick down his own exit door. Dampier would have to be signed and traded, and the Warriors would have to go to extremes to put together a package, to sell the Lakers on it, to sacrifice part of their young core, to make Shaq buy into it. Multiple players and contracts and teams and God knows what else. This is a little hairier than moving up a few spots in the draft, after all. </div> http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...SPG3U7D9G21.DTL
My major problem with getting Shaq is the amount of salary and players that would be needed to get him. We'd end up with less depth than the Lakers, who I thought were severely short-handed already. It's a nice dream, though, to have the Warriors in instant playoff contention.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Zhone:</div><div class="quote_post">It's a nice dream, though, to have the Warriors in instant playoff contention.</div>It definately is. Can you imagine the bay area when the Warriors finally make the playoffs? It will be nuts. This board will definately be buzzing.

It hurts to watch a team that has had no cohesion on the court and no true point guard for years. Last year's team chemistry was great though. Good ball movement, young players respecting the elders. We just need some consistency from the young players and someone with a killer instinct. I think Jrich and Murphy can be those guys. We just need some tough interior presence at center re-sign foyle and get some luck in staying healthy.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">Damp as a sign and trade, Clif Robinson, Dunleavy, and some cap filler.</div> Yeh, I'm sure you would make that trade! But if they caught the Lakers while Kupcheck was doing crack, and this deal actually was made, what would that give Golden State? They don't exactly have much talent left to put a team around him. You know who you guys need. Antwon Walker! Man, that guys is great! He'd be a great player for ya'll! How about trading Damp to Dallas for Walker? Might even throw in Delk or Stackhouse or something like that?
Who is Dallas giving them? They are not going to give up Dirk. And as far as who would be left over, look at the Lakers. They have no talent except for Kobe and Shaq. I think the Warriors have a better team than they had. If we had Shaq we could compete for the championship just as well as the Lakers did this year.

But I think there are a lot of teams (GS is one of them) that would put together enough to get Shaq, but be left with absolutely nothing. Face is Shaq has a few more years, and he isn't going to be part of a rebuilding experience. Dallas is not giving up Dirk. But they could send Walker, Howard, Devin Harris, Laetner. That gives LA a point guard, small forward, power forward and center to go with Kobe (all better than what they have now). Dallas would still have Dirk, Nash, Finley, Marquis Daniels to go with Shaq. They also have Bradley, Fortson, Stackhouse, etc, etc, etc. GS needs to make a decision. They send Jamison to Dallas. Dampier is gone. Are they gonna start keeping any players, or are they gonna continue to play in the NBA development league. You gotta spend the money if you wanna play with the big boys. I don't think your owner will do it.
Sunshinerain- Why would we want Walker? There is a reason why he had limited minutes in the playoffs this year. He is all offense and no defense. He is a big guy that lives and dies by the three ball. No thanks.

Someone's going to want him for that reason alone. And it doesn't hurt to have another scorer. Better than losing Dampier for nothing.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SunshineRain:</div><div class="quote_post"> Better than losing Dampier for nothing.</div>We wouldn't lose him for nothing. We would gain the cap space.

We need a center. I still say get a two year veteran center that can defend. He doesn't have to be awesome but just good enough to make an impact with defense and some rebounding and has a contract that comes off the books after next season. It would be like rent a center.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post">SunshineRain, what about Devin Harris and Pavel?</div> Dang, that's a tough call. The question on Dampier is has this guy arrived or did he just have a contract year? The Mavs have given plenty of money to the Raef Lafrentzes of the world. Devin Harris sounds like a stud and Pavel is a guy the Mavs love. You should hear Nellie talking about how physically and athletically superior Pavel is to Yao (Thursday, Dallas's Summer League team will play team China, so I'll be able to report back). Talent-wise, I think the trade is a tough call. Dollar-wise, it won't work.
Yeah, well to get either one of those rooks we'd have to throw in some bad contracts like Laetner and Stack. Its funny you know the scouts who said Pavel was just a big version of Gheorge Muresan, his draft day video made him look awesome. He shot like a 3 pointer went for some huge rebounds and dunks. I don't know though. We'll see if he lives up to Nellie's hype. In the mean time I'll be eagerly awaiting to hear how the Dallas team did with Pavel against Team Yao Ming (if he's there).
