<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As expected, the Cavaliers picked up forward Carlos Boozer's contract option by Wednesday's deadline. Boozer is coming off a breakout second NBA season in which he averaged 15.5 points and 11.4 rebounds. He was the runner-up for the NBA's Most Improved Player Award and recently was extended an invitation to join the U.S. Olympic Team. Yet he will be one of the biggest bargains in the NBA next season, earning $695,046 as the lowest-paid Cavalier. In what has turned into a shrewd negotiating move, Cavaliers general manager Jim Paxson gave Boozer a $75,000 bonus over the NBA minimum in the first year of his contract in exchange for inserting a team option for his third season. Boozer had hoped the Cavaliers would decline the option and he and the team could workout an extension this summer. However, under the rules of the collective-bargaining agreement, the Cavaliers could only offer Boozer a deal starting at the mid-level exception, expected to be $5 million. He also would've been an unrestricted free agent, meaning he could've taken more money to sign elsewhere.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
2nd rounders get screwed in their contracts. At least we will have money to sign someone else to help the team.
Um...sorry to break this to you, but Boozer's option wasn't picked up, they didn't pick it up because they are going to try to sign him to a long contract, thus right now he is a restricted free agent. Although he said that he wants to remain in cleveland.
It's true, Cleveland didn't pick up the option. Someone will offer more than Cleveland can pay him, and it's going to come down to temptations on Boozer's behalf.
Boozer has said that he doesn't want to leave cleveland. That said, I, as a Cleveland fan, know all to well that whatever bad can happen, will happen in cleveland because frankly, we are cursed.
I would assume there is a handshake agreement going on. If that's the case, make sure you don't put it in writing or it'll be Joe Smith all over again
Boozer didn't cash after 2 strong seasons; getting a 1 year $695,046 contract Marquis Daniels cashed in after a third of a strong season; getting a 6 year $38 Million contract
Boozer is a trust worthy individual. I assume a verbal agreement has been made to negotiate an option on July 14th. Mark my words, Boozer will be a Cavalier next season.
Boozer, Cavs deal nearly set <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">According to NBA sources, the Cavaliers have come to terms with Boozer, who became a free agent Thursday, and will officially sign him to a contract as soon as the free-agent signing period begins July 14. Under league rules and the Cavaliers' current salary cap position, Boozer can sign a deal with the club for around $41 million over six years. The exact amount won't be known until July 14 when the NBA releases it's updated salary cap figures. There's a chance there would be a player option in the deal, which would allow Boozer to get out of the contract early if he desired. Cavaliers general manager Jim Paxson has declined comment on Boozer until after July 13, and messages for Boozer and his agent, Rob Pelinka, were not returned. The deal is not in writing so Boozer still could renege, which is the biggest fear of general managers at this time of the year, but the sources said the Cavaliers were confident in Boozer's word. If the Cavaliers had any worries, it would be other teams with salary cap space taking a run at Boozer after learning he'd be on the market. But apparently the word has gotten out around the league that Boozer, who averaged 15.5 points and 11.4 rebounds last season, is dedicated to returning to Cleveland.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
That's really good! Boozer is one of the teams most valuable players and will continue to contibute to the team for many years to come. Great news.
Truly awesome news, its a darn shame he can be taken for granted sometimes as LBJ said. Such a well balanced game, just no real defensive presence. Talk about being a workhorse, his jersey's the darkest after every game from all his sweating. Great stats, however beyond that, he's one of the strongest players in the league, future all-star? Once he has D and improves his already good scoring, at least as a reserve it's cash money.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Supersonic:</div><div class="quote_post">It's true, Cleveland didn't pick up the option. Someone will offer more than Cleveland can pay him, and it's going to come down to temptations on Boozer's behalf.</div> Yep! It could happen!.................... Here's a quote from the Desert News this AM............. The Jazz are believed to have legitimate interest in pursuing a particular pair of power forwards, All-Star Kenyon Martin of New Jersey and 2004 Olympian Carlos Boozer of Cleveland. Martin, a restricted free agent, is seeking a max-type deal the Jazz hope the Nets might be reluctant to match. A report in Friday morning's Newsday that suggested the Jazz had already have made an offer to Martin simply was simply not true. But if Martin is serious about coming to Utah, it's now been learned, the Jazz would show reciprocal interest. The Cavaliers stunned the NBA world by declining to pick up the option season on Boozer's contract. Some suspect the Cavs did it so they could sign the Duke product to a long-term deal, one that pays much more than the $589,000 Boozer made this past season but is not nearly as costly as it would be if Boozer became a free agent next summer. Those same some suspect they also did it because they are quite confident a loyal Boozer will shun overtures from elsewhere. But the Jazz seem willing to test that loyalty, and see how much Boozer really wants to continue playing with NBA Rookie of the Year LeBron James. The Jazz do not seem nearly as confident about their chances at landing Martin or Boozer as they do about perhaps signing Okur, but they have decided wooing both is worth the effort. Tank
Good move by the Cavs. They're keeping one of the players who will definitely be a part of a good future for this team.
