<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Timberwolves' top priority during the free-agency period, which begins today, stands 6 feet 1, is lightning-quick, can go on a scoring spurt and might have helped them get to the NBA Finals if not for an ankle injury that forced him to miss almost the entire season. With not a lot of money to spend, the Wolves hope to re-sign point guard Troy Hudson, along with key role players Fred Hoiberg and Trenton Hassell. Teams can begin negotiating with players today but can't sign them until July 14. The Wolves aren't expected to be big spenders on the market because they have only the midlevel exception (about $5 million) and a $1.6 million exception available. Re-signing Hudson, who had ankle surgery in April, might not be easy. He is considered an "early Larry Bird" free agent, which means he is eligible to sign a new deal for up to six years and the league's average salary, the equivalent of the NBA's midlevel exception. The Wolves could exceed the salary cap to re-sign Hudson, but a team under the salary cap could outbid them. "We'll give them every chance," Hudson's agent, Bill Neff, said of the Wolves. "There are a lot of teams that have a need for a point guard in a weaker market."</div> Link (Registration required)
I dont know if the T-Wolves should try and resign him he is a great scorer but I think the T-Wolves dont need 2 shoot first PG's,I think they need a play-maker who can score and set up others as well.

So Iam glad to see someone else make this statement. Troy Hudson is solid atwhat he does, scoring & being a shooting spark but thats not what this team needs from a backup point guard. They someone who will run the offense & get oters involved win Cassell goes to the bench. And they need someone that defends the poit guard position well. Since Cassell often struggles guarding the quicker guards in the league. Hudson does do either of those things well. If he doesnt get hot scoring wise of the bench he isnt going to contribute much else. Imo their are more well rounded guards out their that can replace Hudson. Mike James from the Pistons come to mind as a possible, he is an excellent defender in the backcourt. And he proved with the Heat & Celtics that he is god at running an offense, he didnt really get to show this in Detriot the 2nd half of the year when he got traded, because he split the backup ball handling duties with Lindsay Hunter. Also James is good at breaking him man down off the dribble & getting into the lane. And I think the wolves need more people that attack the basket as a 1st option instead just settling for jumpers. Also Anthony Johnson from the Pacers had a player option,so Iam not sure if he opt out. But if he did then thats another guy the Wolves should try to bring in. Anthony Johnson alway does what is ask of him. He is a very underatted on-ball defender. And he always runs an efffiecent offense when he comes into the game. Chucky Atkins is another guy from boston, who is use to producing as a backup & or can fill in as a starter when need, would be very productive. But the only way he would land in Minny is thru a trade. These guys dont score like Hudson but they know their roles & bring alot more to the table. I dont really think Kevin Mchale personally wants to re-sign Hudson but he knows KG wants Hudson here, so he going to make a run at keeping him. But there are better fits out their for this Wolves team then Hudson.
I think that we are gonna end up letting Hudson go. He can get a lot more money on another team plus he wont be starting with the Wolves. I'm sure he wants to be starting now that he's a veteran player. I love Hudson, but it would be better for the team to keep Hassel and Hoiberg, we wcould usethem a lot more. I think Cassel has the PG job down well, and the 2nd isn't as big of a deal as resigning Hassel. I wonder is it would be smart to resign Hudson and trade him for a big man though? Just a thought.

Signing THud allows us to keep the MLE in play to improve at other positions. Getting any of the guards you've mentioned in here for the vet minimum is unlikely at best, meaning we'd have to use the LLE or the MLE to get THud's replacement.

Getting any of those players IS unikley too. I also think we can do without them. Personally, if I was to choose one person to trade away it would be Wally. I know hes a good player, but we could trade him for a really good post player, which is what we need most.

I just read an article in the Orlando Sentinel taht said the Magic are looking into acquiring a SF. They just traded for Cuttino Mobley & Kelvin Cato & are said to be willing to package them in a trade, then signing Adonal Foyle to be their center. If Cato's available, let's get him. He's a great shotblocker, scores most of his points on offensive rebounds & is a solid physical presense at 6'11", 275 lbs. A package including Wally might get Cato from them. The salaries match up capwise.
