I don't think this is a poor decision at all by the Mavs, in fact, I saw this coming. This is why the got Devin Harris and is why the just resigned Marquis Daniels to a 6 year deal according to ESPN. They are planning for the future by doing this. They're looking at who will be better in a few years than who may be better now. I think, financially, this is a great move and overall it's a great move cause it's going to give Devin Harris almost instant playing time unless they give Daniels the starting point job. Will be an interesting team next year, that's all I have to say.
This move could end up helping both teams. If Phoenix want to get back in the playoffs in the upcoming season, they had to improve at PG now. They've done that, and now with Nash, Johnson, Marion and Stoudemire forming 4 of the starting 5 they should be challenging for a playoff spot. They should improve from last season's record. For Dallas, they get rid of a player they'd otherwise be paying big money to, and they have a great replacement in Devin Harris. If he starts, he will be put under a lot of pressure but he's got the skills to handle it. Dallas can now focus on a Harris/Daniels guard combo that will be around for a long time yet and their salary cap situation is improved.
How do you think the Suns will feel six years from now when they are shoving out all those millions to Nash when he will be backing up Leandro Barbosa (if Barbosa hasn't left for greener pastures)? Great acquisition for the short term, but it will come back to haunt Phoenix down the road.
Perhaps this was a push to be a competetive playoff team in the next couple of years? The suns needed something and a PG was what they needed. If Steve Nash can stay healthy for the 6 years this will be a great trade. If he gets hurt then the suns will feel the burn. Dallas will not be able to trade for Shaq now. I don't see the Lakers trading unless they get Dirk. Dallas is in trouble as far as i'm concerned. Steve Nash was their catalyst for the offense.

They have a point that's just learning English who needs to learn how to run a team (conceivably if Milos Vujanic comes over we could have two points needing to learn leadership and the language). They're looking for more than minutes out of Nash. They want him to be the veteran that binds the team together. We have all the young talent you could ask for (Zarko and Lampe and Barbosa will be good) but zip for teammate guidance. Amare is the focus of the team, but even with his will he can't become a veteran leader overnight. Nash may payoff bigger than you think. If the management can hold the current team together plus sign a good center I say we get to the playoffs this year. Second round next year. Who knows from there. But it would be a crying shame if he just deteriorated into a little crippled mop on that huge contract... At the very least he will be our clutch man for years to come (though I wonder who fell behind with the Mavericks...) even if he doesn't play big minutes
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J2X_:</div><div class="quote_post">It's official, Steve Nash is a Sun. So now Kobe is probably gonna be a clipper.</div> Not forgetting the Spurs or Grizzlies are we? He's wanted, needed and would fit well also with either of those teams. I think it's really great that you have a decent PG now, too bad his D, age leave much to be desired, then again....that's what Okafor is for!
