In these forums there has been a substantial debate about the merits of Michael Vick....this poll is based on Vick right now, for the rest of this season and the past few years, not about what he might become someday....I'd like to see exactly what you guys think....

If he got smarter and learned to stay behind the line of scrimmage with his scrambling abilities and wait for the play to develop rather than taking off, I'd think differently of him. I just don't think he's that good. All my arguements can be found in the A.J. Feeley thread, I don't feel like typing them all again

I had to vote poor QB. Michael Vick has four seasons as the Falcons' QB under his belt, but he has only managed 11 TDs throwing this year to 10 Int. With a month left in the season, Vick hasn't broken 2,000 yds throwing yet. Vick isn't consistant enough of a passer to be considered a good QB. That's a shame because he has the physical tools, including what may be the strongest arm in the NFL, that he should be one of the top passers in the NFL. It's also a shame to waste the talents of WRs like Peerless Price. Mark my words, before January is over, the Falcons will be eliminated from the playoffs because they couldn't pass when they're run game got shut down and Vick's inability to be a passing threat will become a controversy. There's just not a great excuse for a QB in his forth season not to be showing improvement. At this point, Michael Vick reminds me of Kordell Stewart with better running ability.

Well I think I've said my peace enough about this subject, and the fact that he is a good starting QB, I'm not sure there is even anything left to say. But yes I see what you're are saying he hasnt broken 2,000 yards throwing yet, however if they as a team and the coach want to build plays around the fact that Vick can run and gain a lot of yards, whats the problem! It's working for them right now, their tone may change later and have to switch to more of a pass game and if/when they do then Vick will have to adjust, right now they are comfortable with the running game. If they lose out in playoffs then so be it, atleast they made it that far with the QB who is claimed to be not much good, and despite what the NFC is like skill wise.

Yes, Vick is in his 4th season, but he spent a lot of time injured. I think with a few years under his belt he'll learn how to become a better passer.

As far as right now, I think he is just an average QB. His numbers are below average, but he makes up for that with his ability to move the ball on the ground. I am very interested to see how he progresses over a few years.

As far as winning and how it affects how good vick is, trent dilfer has a super bowl ring as a starting QB. Even if they win Super bowl i will not recongize him as a good QB till he starts throwing the ball effectively and consistently to his WR(not TE and RB)

He is nothing more than a RB wearing #7 but I think I said that already.

Mobility in a QB is overrated. Give me Dan Marino & the ability to escape the rush once maybe twice before throwing the ball away.

I like for my QB to be mobile, I dont have a problem with my passer having wheels, but to be successful in the NFL, you must play the game from the pocket 1st, something that Vick rarely does.....just look at the success McNabb and Culpepper are having by playing the game from the pocket and using those wheels to buy time and escape danger, all the while, focused on getting the ball to playmakers down the field....no running QB will ever win a Super Bowl because by the time they get good enough to win it, they have transitioned into a pocket passer with mobility.....Vick is gifted with every physical ability you would want in a QB, but until he puts it together like McNabb, Culpepper and before them, Cunningham and Young, he will continue to put up passer ratings in the low 80's or worse and his team will never be what they could....

Average passer that always has a threat of a home run. I agree that he might have the potential to be much better, though.

There are several other quarterbacks in the league that I would take over Vick now, but there are many teams that would snap him up in a heartbeat too. I would give him some McNabb tape from this season to study in the offseason.

Edit - As Pack said, he is a great athlete....one of the top ones in the league. I think that's why people love to hate Vick. He and his team have performed well this year, but the expectations have always been set very high for Vick, and I don't think he has lived up to them yet. Yes, injuries have had something to do with the results too.
