he's a solid defender, deadly shooter, and just a damn good all-around player, and Seattle has already/been said to have contacted Minny... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1833036 Ray is scheduled to make $14.6m next year while, Wally is to make $9m next year and Kandi is set to make $5.4m. So the contracts add up... As much as I'd hate to ship wally, if you can get Allen and get rid of candi at the same time, i think its an opportunity you must jump at. And Ray Allen can handle some PG responsibility, while sam is on the bench, so we really don't need to sign hudson back... what you guys think? I really like this idea and think it can work, since seattle will be getting a shooter for a shooter, and a center that they've been desperately looking for (although candi sucks, he's better than jerome james, and can still have potential for those who are willing to wait).
I would like to have him on the team but the article doesn't say who the Sonics want in return for Ray. If they want too much for him, we don't want to trade for him. So we will still have to wait for what the offer is. But if it was Wally and Kandi for Ray, I would like that trade. But then we will have to sign or trade for another center because it would weaken the team at the center position with only Ervin as a true center.
I don't know, If it involves Wally or Kandi I like the trade, but If it involves KG or Sam...no. If it was Spree for Allen with role players involved, then it would be iffy. Right now we need to lock up Hassell and worry about a Center.
I can't see them getting Ray Allen because where would they put Spree? On the bench? Highly doubt it, there is really no need for Allen on this squad.
your right I didn't even think of that. Holy ish, that would be a sick lineup even with a crappy center in Johnson or Flop-boy Kandi.
think of the lineup... PG: Cassell / Allen SG: Allen / Sprewell / Hoiberg SF: Sprewell / Hassell PF: KG / Madsen C: Johnson / Madsen / Free Agent TBA And lets not forget, KG can run the PG position too ;-)
You have to give up quality to get quality. Olowokandi and Wally isn't a fair deal for Seattle, and no-one other than KG really makes sense for the Sonics to break up their team for.
if seattle is really looking to ship allen, and wally and candi is the best they can get, then it can be done... no team wants to keep expiring contracts of big name players who aren't going to resign, and if this is the case, then this trade could happen... and Allen is not even on the same level or close to the same level as KG, only duncan is.
??? The Wolves have penty that the Sonics woud want to break up theiur team for. What team , anyways, they don't have a lot going for that team so what do they have to lose? That trade would be good for them and good for us. But as stated, that would further weaken our post play and I'm not sure getting Ray is worth that. If we could figure out a way to him and still get a new post player, then I'd say go for it. BUt having one true center could ruin everything.
Ray Allen is not being aggressively shopped. He has been made available to other teams, and Seattle have made a few general enquiries as is normal. Ray has just hired an agent to do his contract negotiations for him, there's still a 50/50 chance he re-signs in Seattle. If Wally and Olowokandi is the best the Sonics can get, they are better off re-siging Ray themselves.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Hardwood Heaven:</div><div class="quote_post">It goes without saying that this would be absolutely huge for the timberwolves..</div> That's true, it would, but it's fun saying it anyway. Here's the article: Wolves, Sonics In Trade Talks By Tom Thunstrom 7/2/2004 Ray Allen, who was originally drafted by the Wolves back in 1996 and then subsequently traded to Milwaukee for Stephon Marbury, is being offered in a trade to several teams, according to sources with the AP and ESPN. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timberwolves Central has learned that the Wolves are considering offering Wally Szczerbiak and Michael Olowokandi to the Sonics for the star shooting guard. Szczerbiak, a 6'8" small forward, has been injured most of the last two seasons, playing in just half of the Wolves' regular season games. While his shooting touch rivals few of any NBA player, he has appeared out of place this past season with the additions of Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell. Szczerbiak, however, improved his stock with a solid postseason effort despite an injured back. Olowokandi was a free agent signing after Rasho Nesterovic was signed by the Spurs last season. Olowokandi suffered from various knee problems during his first season with the Wolves are appeared out of place in the rotation, often disappearing for long stretches of time. He played himself out of the Wolves' rotation during the second round series with the Kings but found significant minutes playing against Shaquille O'Neal in the Western Finals. Ray Allen averaged a career high 23 PPG during his first full season in Seattle but missed 26 games due to injury. He is one of the NBA's most feared shooters and most deadly assassins from the outside. The Wolves are looking at Allen because of his relative youth (he will be 29 this month) and the ability to team him with Garnett for the coming years as Cassell and Sprewell eventually retire. We will continue to keep you informed of the latest information in this developing story.
If the wolves let Hudson go and used the money they would save from that to get a decent/good center then the Wolves wouldn't just win games, they would destroy the opposition and suck the life out of their fans.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KG is the MVP:</div><div class="quote_post">If the wolves let Hudson go and used the money they would save from that to get a decent/good center then the Wolves wouldn't just win games, they would destroy the opposition and suck the life out of their fans.</div> Signing THud's crucial because we'd have to find another PG & we likely wouldn't be able to use the MLE for THud's replacement AND a center. Signing THud solves the PG issue WITHOUT using the MLE. Then the MLE can be used to sign another player, most likely a center.
the wolves have several players who can play the PG as fill-ins... they don't have a true backup PG, but KG and Hoiberg did it last year, and Ray Allen did it in Seattle w/ no problems.
Sorry Timberwolves fans. You guys have no one that we either need or want besides Kevin Garnett, and I'm guessing you don't want to get rid of him. No matter who you package what ails the Sonics is in the frontcourt, and legitimate front court depth remains a problem in Minnesota. How irrelevant is the draft when the Timberwolves have been voided of a first round pick I think for the last four seasons and have gotten better every year. Pretty soon I believe that the draft will become irrelevant in terms of building franchises. (How many franchise players are still w/ the teams that draft them--requirements four+ seasons w/ the same team--K.G., A.I., Kobe, Dirk, Pierce, Carter (did not want to put him in there), and Duncan. I might have missed someone but I think that drafting for the future is completely overrrated.)
i would like this trade but i would hate to ship wally.but the thing i dont understand was when we had him at first why did we trade him for stephon! but ray is more developed than before so i would like this trade
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting jiggax23:</div><div class="quote_post">they can move spree to the 3... thats where he played in NY w/ allan houston playing the 2.</div> Bad move. When spree came to the wolves he said I am happy that I can finally get a chance to play my position. I hated playing small forward out of position all those years in new york. If he ahtes the positon why would we mess with his chemistry with the team by moving him there. I personally dont really like ray allen much. Though he is a good shooter seems one dementional to me. Doesnt drive much even though he shoots great from the line. plus it doest help that he has been threatened by two of his ex teammates. Tim Thomas said he would strangle ray allen next time he saw him because of allens big mouth comments. Then glenn had his threat when he was traded to the hawks from the buckc directed at allen. Though they have since got over that. IDk depending who we trade I say no. Mabye if we move ray to the three.
