It's a strong possibility, but I don't think he'll come until Kobe signs. He knows Kobe from when he recruited him 8 years ago and it seems like they are friendly. Kobe was going to go to Duke if he didn't go pro. I'm interested in what Shaq thinks of all this...I think he might be intrigued enough to come back to LA.
i beleive shaq will stay because he says he only wants to be coached by phl and coach k is in the same leauge as phil
Well coach had the oppurtunity to coach an NBA team way back when, when he was offered the Celtics job. However, I'm not sure this is a a direction he wants to go in. With Shaq demanding a trade, Kobe shopping around (among his legal issues), Payton and Malone not even being a part of the team maybe. It's a mess over in the city of angels right now.
Wel this is just another example of how the Lakers are trying to cater to Kobe to get him to stay. I don't think Shaq cares about who the next coach is going to be, I think it's going to be based on other things whether he stays or not, and I don't think the new coach will affect him.
newsflash!!! college coaches entering the nba ranks is euthanasia, just ask pitino, l.hamiliton and john calipri. what makes coach K the exception to the rule? plus, duke perpetually enjoys the spoils of having the top recruiting class so winning 3 national championship isn't that big of accomplishment.
yeh i dont think Coach K would be successful in his transition to the NBA...its a whole different ballgame and ur dealing with more egotistical personalities who are willing to put themselves before the team at any point and time...Coach K has it good at Duke, where he attracts the best recruits and is a national championship contender year after year...sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side, and I personally believe Rudy T would be their best choice as coach...
Most big time coaches in the NCAA who come to the NBA usually fail. Can't really guess how he'll do until I see how the Lakers roster looks like at the end of the offseason.
I think Coach K. will accept and maybe bring make the whole lakeshow together? There's like tons of damn possibilities... he might, he might not. He blah blah... I think he will.

But, Shaq has said that even if Coach K comes and is the new Lakers head coach next year, he still will not likely be back. He doesn't want to be in Los Angeles anymore due to the lack of attention they've given him and the wealth of attention they've given Kobe. I think he sees that as a smack in the face saying that you're no longer the center piece of this organization and we don't really care about you currenlty. They much came out and said you're priority #2 when they didn't extend his contract. He doesn't like that so therefore, he will not be a Laker next year even if Coach K comes. He no longer wants to be a Laker and nothing will change that in all likelyhood.
I would hope that their would be a successful college coach to come up to the nba. But I don't think he could be successful either. Enough facts has been pointed out to prove that already. Regardless of Kobe liking him, naw I think it's just better for him to stay in the college ranks where he has all of his players respect.
I don't know, coach K deserves a chance especially with all the credibility. He might not get the Lakers that far(atleat this year, depending on the team) , but I do think that he deserves a chance. If Larry Brown made a accomplishment like this(winning the championship, why can't K?
I don't think it's gonna work out. And dyansty builder? I don't think so. I don't think we will be seeing a Laker's dynasty for a while.
Shaq and Kobe stay=TMAC/Yao vs Kobe/Shaq Would be one of the greatest rivalries out there if played with in their caliber.
Shaq is upset with Mitch and Dr Buss, he's knows that Coach K can't change what happens upstairs. I think Coach K should stay in college, though if he makes the jump to the NBA and fails, it will be a long time before any other college coach has the balls to accept an NBA job. If K can't do it, who the hell can??

I also heard, as someone mentioned, that even if Coach K comes as new head coach, Shaq will still be gone. I think just the days of Shaq and Kobe being dominant together are over. Now its the days of Tmac and Yao, well we'l see how they play together. But I think Coach K should just stay in the NCAA. He's had so much success down there. He's earned so much respect down there. I like him as a coach and he's done so much not just for Duke but for the entire NCAA. I'm not sure though on how he'd do on a professional level. Some say since he did so good in the NCAA that he'd do great in the pros, some say he might not be anything in the pros. My opinion is that he should just stay down with Duke.
I was watching SportsCenter a little bit ago and apparently the talk at the Duke campus is that Coach K is staying put. Both Jay Bilas and the other guy each said something about this. Not sure how much truth is behind it though. It was also mentioned that his decision could be made as early as tomorrow or Tuesday. Who knows though. We'll hopefully be finding out here soon.
