<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Marquis Daniels agreed to a six-year contract worth roughly $38 million to stay with the Dallas Mavericks, helping the team secure the other half of their starting backcourt soon after losing point guard Steve Nash. Daniels, who made the league minimum of $366,931 last season after going undrafted out of Auburn, will receive the midlevel exception of around $5 million this season, then have annual raises of 10 percent. The exact figures will be set by the league before July 14, which is the earliest the contract can be signed. ``Once we got what we wanted, from the team we wanted, Marquis said, `Let's get it done,''' agent Glenn Schwartzman said Friday. ``This is where his heart is.'' Daniels spent part of last season as Nash's backup, then thrived once he joined him in the starting lineup as the off guard. His playmaking may be needed more next season now that Nash has agreed to sign with Phoenix, probably turning over point guard duties to rookie Devin Harris.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1833400 Looks like Daniels cashed in big. He emerged as one of my favorite players last year. I was hoping that he would land in Charlotte so he can showcase his stuff with a team without any superstars (Okafor isn't a superstar). Though I guess he thinks 6.3 Million a year and being a powerhouse team in the West is better than being the leading scorer on a expansion weak East team. If I was him, I would've done the same thing. Who knows, he might be a one year wonder (though I doubt it), and might of had a down year next year with the Bobcats, after he signed a 1 year 5.5 Million dollar contract or something. Then his stock would of gone way down. Smart move by Marquis and his agent. Oh ya, can't forget Dallas.
If Nash was resigned, the chances are Daniels would of ended up elsewhere because with the Mavs salary cap situation, it would of been hard to match an offer. Maybe Cuban is trying to get younger, with a backcourt of Harris, Daniels for the future. So there is some benefit in losing Nash, but they still have big problems in the frontcourt.
Well at least one of our PGs stayed, I wonder what our line up will look like this season: Daniels/Finley/Stackhouse/Walker/Dirk what do you all think?

I think Nash is getting old and If you sign him for a long long long contract then your moneys going to go to waste, Im happy with them resigning Daniels but one problem whos going to play PG, Daniels or Harris?
Greg Oden (the high school phenom who will be the first pick in the 2006 draft) should definitely hire Daniels' agent. Daniels right now has the highest contract of anyone in his class and the 2002 draft (that might change w/ Boozer). To go from undrafted to 38 million dollars in a year is unbelievable timing. I have no idea what the exact amount is but Dallas has to have the league's highest payroll right now. Daniels, Walker, Fortson, Dirk, Finley, Stackhouse, Bradley, the two first round draft picks from the last two years, etc. all have pretty steep contracts. I know that Cuban likes to spend but considering how the Mavs underachieved last year I'm not sure if re upping the contracts of the players that were already here should be his top priority.
I would have harris come off of the bench until he gets used to the NBA.. If he does well, why not have him start a few games later in the season
Great job by the Mavs. This kid has a ton of talent and skill and he displayed that once he got in the starting line up. I think they are definitely planning for the future with this signing. Also, with this, you have to think now, do you go with the youth in Daniels to start, or do you go with the veteran Finley next year. That's what I'm wondering. Also, how much longer will Finley even be there? Not saying that he's leaving, but, it could be a possibility since they were able to resign Marquis. Never know. Just have to see what else unravels in the offseason.
